Marcus Boyd

Marcus Boyd age 85 of Smithville, passed away Thursday January 18, 2018 at his residence in Smithville. He was born April 4, 1932 in Vansant, VA, to his parents, the late Marion Rendew and Laura Myrtle Hale Boyd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Angie Johnson Boyd; first wife, Loretta Breeding Boyd; infant daughter, Harriett Elizabeth Boyd; brothers, Ardue, Milton, Walter, Rendew, Jr., and Irson Boyd; sisters, Mary Cook, Myrtle and Vernie Baldwin, Trula Greenwood and Nell Stiltner. Marcus was a Charter Member and Trustee of Big Fox Community Church and attended The Baptist Tabernacle, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was retired from Federal Mogul. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Boyd of Smithville; son, Tim (Dianne) Boyd of Michigan; daughter, Belinda Randolph of Smithville; brother, James Thurman Boyd of Vansant, VA; step-children, Melisa (Greg) Muskopf and Nikki Johnson and the late John Johnson of Smithville; grandchildren, Abby Vogel, Lisa Arnold, Andy Boyd, Heidi Boyd, Kellen Curtis, Garrett Muskopf, Madelyn Johnson and Adam Johnson. Funeral services in Smithville will be 7:PM Friday, January 19, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Garry McBride and Tim Pack officiating. Visitation will be Friday 10 AM until the time of the service at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the Big Fox Community Church with Bros. Lester Boyd and Edward Tiller officiating and burial will follow in the FMF Boyd Cemetery in Vansant, VA. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations please be made to the Harmony Center in Knoxville for Foster Children, those donations can be made at the funeral home. Donald Lohorn

January 17, 2018

81 year old Donald Lohorn of Smithville died Tuesday January 16th at NHC Healthcare in DeKalb County. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Faye Lohorn, his parents Ray and Mary Lou Collins Lohorn, siblings Thelma, Alvin, Ella Joe, Jesse and Vernon Lohorn. Over the years he managed the Smithville Drive In, worked at Genesco and the Smithville CO-OP. He enjoyed his cat, electronics and swinging on the porch. He is survived by sons, Coy Lohorn of Scottsville, KY, Jason (Nikki) Lohorn of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter, Greta (Chris) Mick of Smithville, seven grandchildren – Justin, Austin & Hayden Lohorn, Madison Mick, Paige, Ally & Hannah Lohorn, one great grandchild, Abel Lohorn; siblings Paul Sidney(Chattanooga, TN), Howard Lohorn(Baltimore, MD), Oren Lohorn( Thousand Oaks, CA) and Ronald Lohorn (Sparta, TN), he is also survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. His children have honored his request to be cremated and will receive family and friends Saturday January 20th from 10AM – 2PM at Calvary Baptist Church in Smithville with a memorial service to follow at 2 PM with Bro. Jason Lohorn officiating. Visitation with the family and memorial service will be at Calvary Baptist Church, 830 Foster Rd. Smithville, TN. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Doris Janette Allen

January 17, 2018

89 year old Doris Janette Allen of Smyrna passed away Monday at Waters of Smyrna. She was a retired accountant and a member of the Bible Church of Jesus. A graveside service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Whorton Springs Cemetery. James Tipton will officiate. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Webb and Willie May Frazier; and her husband, Jimmy Joe Allen. Survivors include three children, William J. Slaughter, Ronald W. Slaughter, and April G. Farmer. Eight grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.




Maxie Helen Roller

January 16, 2018

Maxie Helen Roller age 90 of Rock Island, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. She was born October 25, 1927 to her parents the late, Roy Potter and Sarah Annie Lappen Cantrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Herman Roller; 2 children, William Earl and Eddie Herman Roller; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Pelham Roller; 1 sister, Tressa Cantrell Young; 4 brothers, Lee Harmon Cantrell, Robert Cleburn Cantrell, Willie Atwood Cantrell and Charles Hugh Cantrell. Ms. Helen was a faithful member of the New Union The Baptist Church and retired from Southwestern Nursery Supply Co. She leaves to cherish her memory, 3 sons, Larry (Rhonda) Roller of Michigan, Steve Roller of Rock Island and Danny (Paula) Roller of Rock Island; special daughter, Jana (Buddy) Patterson of McMinnville; grandchildren, Tracy (Jeff) Miller, Tammy Roller, Stephanie (Billy) Alford-Roller, Gunter Roller, Sarah (Matt) Wilson, Mary Elizabeth Roller and Luke Patterson; great-grandchildren, Kurtlin and Haley Miller. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Friday, January 19, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Frank Randolph officiating and burial to follow in Keltonburg Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday 12 Noon until 8 PM and Friday 10 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Lighthouse Christian Camp in memory of Ms. Helen. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Roger Sharp, Sr.

January 16, 2018

Roger Sharp, Sr. age 67, of Silver Point, TN passed away at Cookeville Regional Medical Center late Sunday night January 14, 2018. He was retired from Star Manufacturing after 26 years and owner of Sharp Lodge in Silver Point and was a Baptist. He was born June 1, 1950 in Crossvile, TN to Hazel Sharp Griffth and the late Oakley Stanley Sharp. He moved to Smithville in 1975. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Treva Sharp of Smithville. Son, Roger D. Sharp, Jr. of Silver Point. Grandson, Roger David Sharp, III of Mt. Juliet. His mother, Hazel Sharp Griffith of Silver Point. Brothers, Dennis (Annie) Sharp of Silver Point and David (Melissa) Sharp of Smithville and many close friends and honorary family members. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. B.J. Thomason officiating and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 3 PM until 8 PM and Thursday 9 AM until the time of the service at 11:00. Doug Neal

Doug Neal age 71 of Smithville, passed away Sunday morning, January 14, 2018 at his residence. He was born January 22, 1946 to his parents, the late Clarence and Lillian Hale Neal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 great-granddaughter, Gracie Colwell; 1 sister, Bobbie Jean Houk and 1 brother, L.W. Neal. Doug and Kathy were the owners of All State Drywall and Painting, he was a Freewill Baptist and attended the Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Neal of Smithville; 6 children, Gayle Pack of Smithville, Bruce Neal of Smithville, Greg Neal of Smithville, Brian (Crystal) Neal of Smithville, Ronnie (Samantha) Neal of Cookeville and Nathan Neal of Florida; 11 grandchildren, Kerrrie, Kayla, Alisha, Brice, Kerra, Seth, Brilee, Ricky, Austin, Maddison and Elijah; 5 great-grandchildren, Kyndall, Sy, Carson, Lillie and Kordale; 4 sisters, Loretta Bain, Pat Sanders, Linda Knowles and Elaine McGuire all of Smithville; special niece and caregiver, Deborah Page and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Thursday, January 18, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Bernard Houk and Mike Adams officiating and burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 12 Noon until 8:00PM and Thursday from 9:00 until the time of the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
