Harold Dean Dawes

Harold Dean Dawes, age 79 of Smithville passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Alive Hospice House in Nashville. Mr. Dawes was retired from his position in Marketing and Sales at Middle Tennessee Natural Gas and attended Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Dawes was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Tennessee Southern Gas, The Eagles Club, and he was a Shriner. Funeral Services for Harold Dawes will be held in the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville, TN on Sunday, February 4, at 3:30pm with internment to follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Bro. Bill Robertson and Bro. Joel Wood officiating. Visitation with the Dawes family will be on Saturday from 7pm-9pm and on Sunday from 10am until the service time at 3:30pm. Mr. Dawes was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Daisy Mae Cothron Dawes, one daughter Linda Carol Wauford, and 2 brothers Ralph and Garrett Dawes. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Joel Dawes, 1 Daughter and son-in-law-Judy and Steve Merritt, 4 Sisters- Judy Coley, Betty Minchey, Kaye Sadler and her husband Phillip, Ruth Davis, 1 special sister-in-law- Audrey Dawes, 5 Grandchildren- Kim Shearin (Chris), Tiffanie Claiborne, Eric Barrett (Brandi), Christina Barnes, and Jamie Jackson. 16 Great Grandchildren, 2 Step Grandchildren-James Merritt (Melissa) and Terry Merritt. 6 Step Great Grandchildren, and 2 special friends-Mike & Faye Lamarca. Jean Marie Brown McCormick

February 4, 2018

59 year old Jean Marie Brown McCormick of Smithville passed away Saturday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a Christian and a homemaker. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bryan Jones will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margie Hammock Brown; siblings, John Ricky Brown, Carl Freeman, Lonnie Lee, Roscoe Jay, and Judy Brown. Survivors include sons, J.W. and Sarah Brown and B.J. and Trisha Brown. Daughter, Joanie and Tim Walker. Eight grandchildren, Lee and Trinity Brown, Richard, MaCayla, Allison and Landon Brown, and Javan and Kendall Walker all of Smithville. Father, J.B. Brown of Celina. Father of her children, Leonard McCormick. Special niece, Halea Brown. Sister, Dorothy and Gary Sanders. Brothers, David Bruce and Curtis Brown, Glen and Vonda Brown, Enoch (Hoss) and Holly Brown. Ruby Dean Ervin

77 year old Ruby Dean Ervin passed away January 12 at her son’s residence in Ardmore. A memorial service will be at the Indian Mound The Baptist Church on Indian Mound Road on Sunday, February 4 at 2:30 p.m. Jack Patterson will officiate..Ruby was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle and worked as a garment factory employee for 30 years. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be sadly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson Cripps and Erma Cripps Dickens; brothers, Monroe Dickens and Ronnie Cripps; sister, Kay Cripps; and grandparents, Monroe and Willie Christian and Allen and Annie Cripps.
She is survived by two sons, Jason Ervin of Sparta and Michael (Iris) Ervin of Ardmore; daughter, Cookie Johnson of Sparta; sisters, Judy (Jack) Patterson of Smithville, Leigh Woodall of Smyrna; brother, Wilson Cripps, Jr. of Brush Creek; grandchildren, Tiffany (Robert) Patrick of Smithville, Travis Melton of Smithville, Breanna Ervin of Sparta, Jason James (Dakota) Ervin of Sparta, Alex and Bella Ervin of Ardmore; great-grandchildren, Topanga and Keirra Patrick, Mason and Wyatt Edwards, James Paul Ervin and baby to be born to the Melton family; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ardmore Funeral Home was in charge of the cremation.




Sally Ann Koblinsky

January 31, 2018

72 year old Sally Ann Koblinsky of Woodbury passed away Tuesday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. Sally was also an avid volunteer with the Baptist Children’s Home of NC. She fostered many children throughout her lifetime. Sally loved her Lord and church. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Smithville . Chad Ramsey will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and Friday at the First Baptist Church. Doors will open at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley Carmical and Clara Pearl Hanson and a sister, Susan Ruth Carmical. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Thomas W. Koblinsky of Woodbury. One daughter, Cynthia Ann and Michael Matthew Madden of Smyrna. One son, Robert D. and Patti Koblinsky of Nashville. One granddaughter, Marissa Lillian Madden of Smyrna. One sister, Joann Bowers of Virginia and a brother, Stanley Larry Carmichael of Virginia. The family has asked that no flowers be sent but to please make donations to the First Baptist Youth Group. Billy Walker

January 30, 2018

Mr. Billy Walker, age 68, of Watertown, TN, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018.Billy was born October 24, 1949 in Lebanon, TN, son of the late William Gordon Walker and Grace Pearl Givan Walker. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1967 and later graduated from Hartsville Vocational School. Billy married LaVonne Washer on August 31, 1973. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Alexandria where he served as Deacon. Mr. Walker was a farmer.
Mr. Walker is survived by his Wife of 44 years; LaVonne Walker of Watertown, TN. Three Daughters; Julie (Kent) Beasley of Watertown, TN, Jill (Tim) Chappell of Watertown, TN, and Cindy (Kelsey) Evert of Watertown, TN. Sister; Helen Walker Edwards of Alexandria, TN. Grandchildren; Brady Chappell, Lola Klaire Chappell, Jack Walker Beasley, Ben Thomas Beasley, James William Evert, and Camille Evert. Mother-in-Law; Jo Doris Washer. Nephews; Steve Edwards and Tim Edwards and Niece; Angie Garrett.
Funeral Services for Mr. Walker are scheduled to be conducted from First Baptist Church, Alexandria on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 1PM with Bro. Billie Friel officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillview Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation with the Walker family will be held at Avant Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2PM until 8PM and at First Baptist Church, Alexandria on Thursday from 11AM until the time of the service at 1PM.
In lieu of flowers, the Walker family requests memorials in Mr. Billy’s memory be made to the Gideons.




Helen Joyce Bain

Helen Joyce Bain age 71 of Smithville, was born May 5, 1946 and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, January 28, 2018. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Martha Martin Caldwell; husband, David “Cobb” Bain; 2 sisters, Debbie Carmack and Linda Walker; 2 brothers, L.C. Murphy and Austin Caldwell. She was a Christian and member of the Faith Congregational Methodist Church and the manager of Bridgeway Motel since 2003. Helen was a loving Mama, Nana and Friend. She loved people and had a contagious smile that would warm every heart. There are so many words you could use to describe the wonderful person that she was. She leaves to cherish so many memories her 3 girls and sons-in-law, Teresa and Wayne Steele of McMinnville; Melissa and Tim Mullins of Smithville and Holly and Jamie Anderson of Smithville; her 6 grandchildren, who where her world, Brandon Tallent, Miah Mullins, J.J. Mullins, Landon Mullins, Hannah Anderson and Emily Anderson and many friends. Funeral services celebrating her life will be conducted 3:00 PM, Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Wallace Caldwell and Mark Miller officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday 1 PM until 8 PM and Wednesday 10 AM until the time of the service at 3 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
