Tammy Winetta Lowe

April 3, 2018

Tammy Winetta Lowe, age 50, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at St. Thomas Dekalb Hospital. She was a native of Dekalb Co.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Lowe of Smithville; Sister, Beckie Werpecinisky of Smithville; Son, Christopher Leon Lowe of Nashville; and Niece and Nephew, Briley Werpecinisky & Kris Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & JoAnn Kelly Robinson.

Ms. Lowe worked as a Bookkeeper in Accounting and enjoyed doing artwork, especially painting and photography.

Memorial Graveside Services will be 12 Noon Saturday, April 7, 2018

Carol Lee Allen Brown

Carol Lee Allen Brown age 52 of Smithville passed away Saturday March 31, 2018 at her residence. She was born August 4, 1965 to her parents, the late Earl and Sandra Lee Allen. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Lee Brown. Carol worked at Patty’s Restaurant. Survivors include 2 children, Lonnie JB (Jessica Lane) Brown and Shanna Brown (David Amberson) both of Smithville; 5 grandchildren, Lilly Anne Brown, Weslin McCowan, Jayden McCowan, Rebecca Lee Brown, and Isaac Rain Magouirk; 3 sisters, Claudette Caldwell and Donna Greer both of Smithville and Tina Fay Parks of Gainesboro; 2 brothers, Steve Allen and Earl Allen, Jr. both of Gainesboro; step-mother, Debbie Allen of the Dodson Branch Community. The funeral services for Carol have not been set at this time and will be announced later by DeKalb Funeral Chapel.




Gradie Lee (Bond) Hernandez

April 1, 2018

Gradie Lee (Bond) Hernandez, 70, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 30, 2018 in Riverside from Chronic Heart Failure.

She was born in Smithville, TN on April 22, 1947. She is survived by her husband of almost 48 years, John Hernandez. She leaves her daughter, Andrea Isaac and husband Jason, son Johnathan Hernandez, and granddaughters Arianna and Jennya Isaac, and June Hernandez. She is also survived by her mother, Gradie Gribble, and brothers and sisters, Joe Bond, Danny Bond, Linda Gonzales, John Bond, and Kathy Stanley.

Gradie met John Hernandez in 1968, and married in Murfreesboro, TN on June 4, 1970 at St. Rose of Lima. They were blessed with two children. Their daughter was born on August 1, 1975 and a son was born on December 14, 1976. They have three wonderful granddaughters, ages 17, 14, and 12 years old.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1968 and a Master of Science in Biology in 1970 both from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). She also earned a Master of Science in Educational Administration from California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) in 2005.

Gradie taught Mathematics at DeKalb County High School in Smithville, TN from 1970-1976. Her family moved to Riverside, CA in 1977. She began teaching Mathematics at Norte Vista High School in Riverside in 1981, and retired in 2008. After 33 years of teaching, she kept busy by spending time with her family and traveling with her husband to visit family across the United States. She also enjoyed painting and working with the California Retired Teachers Association (CalRTA) and the Daughters of the American Revolutionary (DAR). Every Sunday she attended church with her husband at the Old Time Religion Baptist Church in Riverside.

Mrs. Hernandez will have a memorial at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside on April 20, 2018 at 11:00am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gradies’ life. Additionally, we are proud to share that Gradie was able to help two blind people by donating both corneas. In lieu of flowers, please donate to military organizations such as the USO or DAV.




Michael Shane Maples

March 30, 2018

Michael Shane Maples, 41 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at his residence.

Born Friday, July 16, 1976 in Frankfurt , Germany, he was the son of Gary Maples and Martha Jane Brock. He retired with 20 years of service in the Army National Guard. He served during Operation Iraqi Freedom from June 2004 until December 2005.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda Lewis Maples of Sparta; sons, Stephen Weston Maples and Daniel Shane Maples of Sparta; daughter, Alexis Grace Kamryn Maples of Sparta; parents, Ron and Jane Bennett of Sparta and Gary and Frances Maples of Spencer; mother-in-law, Nancy Lewis of Smithville; brothers, Chip Bennett (Renee) of Cookeville and Jonathan Bennett (Kristina) of McMinnville; sister, Angie Maples of Spencer; several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tad and Lucille Brock and brother, Gary Stephen Maples Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Steve Tiebout officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Chapel Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard. The family will welcome friends at 10:00 am until time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Rickey Lynn Stanley

March 28, 2018

57 year old Rickey Lynn Stanley of Smithville passed away Wednesday at his residence. He was a member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church and member of the Al Menah Shrine Temple, Center Hill Masonic Lodge #77, and the Order of the Eastern Star #374. He was also a former Texas Boot machine operator and farmer. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. A Masonic Service will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Stanley and Amanda Ruth Ervin, and father-in-law, Garrison Lee Bond. Survivors include his spouse, Kathy Bond Stanley; daughter, Angela and Joe O’Connell; a son, Rickey, Jr. and Jessica Stanley; a sister, Melissa Stanley; brothers, Ronald Stanley, Eddie and Louella Stanley; Randall Stanley; half-brother, Michael and Mandy Stanley; half-sister, Jennifer Pack; step-brother, Wayne and Linda Bush; five grandchildren, Reann, Faithann and Jolynn O’Connell and Chelsie and Lily Stanley; mother-in-law, Grady Bond Gribble; sisters-in-law, Grady and John Hernandez of California and Linda and Richard Gonzalez of Texas; brothers-in-law, Joe and Bea Bond of Missouri; Danny Bond and Susan Johnson of Smithville and Johnny and Shannon Bond of Utah. Several nieces and nephews survive. Close personal friends, Benny Dawes, Debra Crawford, Carol Underhill, Johnny Paul, Claudine Crawford, Paulette and Bobby Robinson, Edsel and Edward Frazier, Beverly Knauer, and the Dry Creek Baptist Church family. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the Al Menah Shrine Temple.
