Troy Eugene Hinton

Troy Eugene Hinton age 44 of Huntsville, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. He was born March 24, 1975 in Birmingham, AL.

Mr. Hinton is survived by his wife April Tidmore Hinton; sons Corbin Smith and Wyatt Hinton; step-children: Sierra Smith, Haleigh Smith and Chase Smith; father Jerry Hinton (Susan); mother Joan Kelly (Rance); brothers David Hinton (Crystal) and Rance Kelly, Jr. (Annette); grandmother Lois Warden Tipton and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Spry Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Spry Funeral Home with interment in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.




A.J. Neal

November 14, 2019

A.J. Neal, 76, passed away Sun., Nov. 10, 2019 at his home following an extended illness.  He was a native of Cannon Co. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Brenda Preston Neal of Cannon Co.; children, Tony (Tracy) Neal, Randy (Gail) Neal and Kim (Brad) Hall all of Cannon Co.; grandchildren, Lacy (Jimmy) Wheeler, Zach Martin and A.J. Hall and great grandchildren, Maddison and Jamie Wheeler. He is preceded in death by his parents, H.C. & Reba Gunter Neal. A.J. was a member of the North Warren Church of Christ.  He was a farmer, retired from Nissan and worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Cannon Co. Hwy. Dept.  A.J. always loved working in anything that was in the dirt including farming and gardening.  He was a hard worker who loved to tell stories about old times, he loved God and his family but most of all his grandchildren were his favorite.   Funeral Services will be 1 pm Wed., November 13, 209 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Parkhurst and Bro. Jamison Crouch officiating.  Interment will follow in the Gunter – Grizzle Cemetery.  Pallbearers include Wayne Hancock, Abby Dobson, Russell Burks, Daniel Kelley, Kevin Wrisner and James Dillard and honorary pallbearers, Jimmy Hale, Billy Young, Jared Kirby and Billy Nichols. Shirley Frances Cook

November 14, 2019

83 year old Shirley Frances Cook of Smithville passed away Tuesday at St. Thomas West Hospital. She was retired from Kingston Timers and a member of the Church of Christ. The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Kenneth Mansell will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the funeral at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlo Cook; parents, Cecil and Maggie Green Walker; granddaughter, Emily Cripps; four brothers, J.B., Charles, Cordell, and Dwight Walker; and three sisters, Melba Walker, Lear Arnold, and Fay Griffin. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah and Danny Young and Crystal Petty; three sons, Jeff and Linda Cook, Johnny and Rachel Cook, and David Cook and Gerwin Cook all of Smithville. Six grandchildren, Greg and Melissa Young, Angela and David Cantrell, Joshua Cook, Kendall Petty, Kallie Petty, and Aja Cook. Six great grandchildren and three brothers, Douglas Walker, Jerry and Patti Walker and Ronnie and Brenda Walker all of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.




Lemuel Clyde Blaine, Jr.

November 12, 2019

Lemuel Clyde Blaine, Jr. age 66 of Smithville passed away on Tuesday night, November 5, 2019 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER.  He was born November 17, 1952 to his parents, the late Lemuel Clyde and Betsy Norlee Hevener Blaine, Sr.  Mr. Blaine was a truck driver and a Baptist.  Survivors include his wife, Shirley Blaine of Smithville; step-daughter, Lacey (Ryan) Theede of Black Mtn., NC; step-grandson, Max Theede; sister, Susan Blaine of Broadway, VA and step-daughter, Connie (C.E.) Hodge of North Port, FL.  The family has honored Mr. Blaine’s request to be cremated and no services are planned.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in memory of Mr. Blaine.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.



Inez Barrett Farler

November 8, 2019

Inez Barrett Farler age 91 of the Snow Hill Community, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville.  She was born May 5, 1928 to her parents, the late Joe and Climmie Barrett.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Farler; granddaughter, Regina Carol Fuson; 3 sisters, Hazel Cook, Eunice Barrett and Pearl Mathis; 1 brother, John B. Bailey.  Ms. Inez was a member of the Dowelltown Baptist Church, member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and a retired factory worker.  She leaves to cherish her memory, 3 children, Jerry (Theresa) Farler of Florence, AL, Jeanie (Jerry W.) Pack of McMinnville and Ramona (Dan) Fuson of Dowelltown; 9 grandchildren, Keith (Sabrina) Farler, Dallas (David) Walker, Daniel Duke, Adam Farler, Katherine (Caleb) Wade, Jerry Farler, Jr., Cherie Page, Inez Pack, James Pack; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; 3 sisters, Nonnie Hunter of Ashland City, TN, Annette (Jerry) Cripps of Alexandria and Polly (Bobby) Bass of Mt. Juliet.  Graveside services and interment will be 10:AM Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Salem Cemetery with Bro. Van Mathis officiating.  Visitation with the family will be on Friday 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday  from 9 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at which time Ms. Inez will be taken to the cemetery for the graveside service.  In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Justin Potter Library in memory of Inez.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  



Luther Maxie Colwell

Luther Maxie Colwell a native of DeKalb County, passed away Thursday evening, November 7, 2019 at Lewis County Nursing and Rehab.  He was born April 19, 1952 in Smithville to his parents, the late George B. and Virgie L. Gay Colwell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Colwell; daughter, Torie Stacey and 1 brother, Lonnie Colwell.  Maxie was retired from the State of Tennessee in the Transportation Dept.  He is survived by 1 son, Shawn Colwell of Smithville; 2 grandchildren, Taylor and Cody; 2 sisters, Fay (Tip) Melton of Killen, AL and Geneva (Jack) Tidrick of Murfreesboro; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Saturday, November 9, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Wallace Caldwell officiating and burial will follow in Hillview Cemetery in Alexandria.  Visitation will be Saturday 9 AM until the time of the service at 1 P.M..  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
