53 year old Trena Kay Barrett of Smithville passed away Friday at Centennial Medical Center. She was a Pentecostal and a homemaker. The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Nathan Thomason will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the service at 3 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Junior Estes and Clara Mai Johnson; and a sister, Diane Horn. Survivors include two sons, Eddie Farris of Smithville and Nathan Farris of White Bluff; a daughter, Susan and Gary Matthews of Smithville. Eight grandchildren. One brother, Wayne Estes of Smithville. Two sisters, Susan Maynard of Smithville and Christie Keaton of Woodbury. Step-father, Robert Farris of Smithville and good friend Wayne South of Smithville. Debbie Lynn O’Connor, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. She was born Sunday, February 10, 1952 in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and Nana. She retired in 2012 after a long career with CNA Insurance. Deborah was preceded in death by her husband, Jere M. O’Connor; father, John D. Parsley; brother, John Richard Parsley. She is survived by her daughters, Stacie (Bill) Peek and Kimberly (David) House; mother, Helen Vandergriff Burt of Alexandria; sister, Vicki Corley of Alexandria; brothers, Phillip (Janice) Parsley and Larry (Mariam) Parsley; grandchildren, Austin, Jordan and Mackenzie. Visitation for Deborah will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Goodlettsville, TN, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm with burial in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.This information provided as a courtesy of DeKalb Funeral Chapel.

James R. “Jim” Brown age 66 of Smithville, passed away suddenly Monday, February 19, 2018 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born May 18, 1951 to his parents, the late Robert and Jeanette Patterson Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Wayne and Alice Breer. Jim was a engineer with Siemens, a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of the VFW. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cherie Brown of Smithville; 2 sons, Todd Brown of Huntington, WV and Eric and wife Joy Brown of Portland, TN; 2 grandsons, Ethan Brown and Eli Brown; 2 brothers, David and wife Carla Brown of Florida and Rob and wife Steph Brown of Vermont; 2 brothers-in-law, Danny Breer of Vermont and Wayne and wife Maryann Breer of Vermont; sister-in-law, Marcy and husband, Fran Beede of Vermont; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive. The family has honored Jim’s request to be cremated and will have a private service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made DeKalb Animal Coalition, in memory of Jim. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Johnnie Ruth Luna, 90 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted member of Johnson’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She was born July 2, 1927 in Sparta to James Tobert Minnear and Johnnie B Stockton Minnear. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tolbert and Johnnie Minnear; sister, Betty Minnear; brothers, Rubert Minnear, Carl Minnear, James Albert “Red” Minnear, James “Zuke” Minnear, and nephews, Ronnie and Bobby Minnear. Survivors include her children, Danny Luna and wife, Mary; Jerry Luna and wife, Debbie; Linda Luna Herman and husband Eddie; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Family will recieve friends from 4pm until 8pm on Wednesday evening, February 21, 2018 and on Thursday from 10am until the time of service. Funeral will be held at 1pm on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Sparta with Gary Farris and Lamar Redmond officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery in the Cassville Community. Pallbearers include; John Herman, Nick Herman, Shannon Luna, Tony Bilbrey, Cody Devillanueva, Jake Jacobs, and Mason Farmer. The family extends their thanks and appreciation to Kindred Hospice and their staff for love and support during the past months.

81 year old Shirley Jean Fish Selvey of Smithville passed away Wednesday at Centennial Medical Center. She was a member of the Smithville Church of God and a homemaker. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Donnie Kelly will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Haskel and Jesse Mildred Fish; her husband of 56 years, William Arnold Selvey; brother, Dennis LaVon Fish; and a sister, Teresa Trout. Survivors include five daughters, Yvonne Gilbert, Sherry Hensley, Gail and Ronnie Baines, Sallie Maples, and Norma and Joe Rice all of Smithville. Eight grandchildren, Daniel and Jessica Evans of Georgia, Dana and Jacob Davis, Jason Baines, Corey and Rebecca Dickens, Whitney Maples, Caleb and Carrie Baines all of Smithville, Eric Dickens of Murfreesboro, and Lee and Andrew Stonestreet of West Virginia. Eleven great grandchildren. Five sisters, Donna Williamson of Dayton, Sandra McCoy, Tonya McBrayer, Norma Adkins, and Marsha Gibson all of Kentucky, and four brothers, Randall, Mitchell, Keith, and Gary Fish all of Kentucky. 69 year old Connie Ruth Armour of Smithville passed away at her residence Monday. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lower Helton The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Barry Whiteaker will officiate and burial will be in the Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Harvey and Juanita Green; husband, Jessie Armour; daughter, Sharon Thomason; sister, Bonnie Hooberry; and two grandsons, Bryan Thomason and Nicholas Reeder. Survivors include a son, John Armour; two daughters, Samanda Armour and Joanie Butler all of Smithville. Six grandchildren, Brittney and Nathan Gard, Nathan and Hannah Armour, Kelly Armour, Jonathan Armour, Linda Sue Bain all of Smithville, and Brandy Thomason of Manchester. Nine great grandchildren. Two brothers, Dennis (Denny) Harvey of Greenbrier and Phillip Green of Florida. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
