Paul Franklin Turner

Mr. Paul Franklin Turner age 85 of the Greenhill Community died Saturday, November 30, 2019, at Rain Tree Manor Nursing Center in McMinnville, TN. He was born December 30, 1933, in McMinnville, TN, was a retired nurseryman, former co-owner of Turner & Son Nursery, and a member of North Warren Church of Christ. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by parents Hershel and Percy Cope Turner, first wife Mary Frances Herman Turner, grandson Christopher Paul Turner, sister Hattie Norene Turner Greene, and brother James C. Turner.

Survivors include his second wife Sandra Hooper Turner, daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Glenn Nixon, son and daughter-in-law John and Terri Turner, grandchildren Jenny Hall, Lorie (Steve) Rupp, LeAnn (Matt) Maretti, Lee-Allen (Sarah) Turner, and John Adam (Allison) Turner, great-grandchildren Destiny, R. J., Kaitlyn, Noah, Jax, Leah, Lily, Lexi, and Daniel,  great-great grandchildren Brannon and Braily, step-son Deric (Candace) Peacock, and 4 step-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 03, 2019, in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Mark Parkhurst will officiate. Interment will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Smithville. The Turner Family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.

Sharon Marie Lasser

December 1, 2019

61 year old Sharon Marie Lasser of Smithville passed away Thursday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the service at 3 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Gloria Peak Temple. Lasser is survived by her husband of 43 years, Richard Lasser, Sr.; three daughters, Michelle and Brian Reece, Stephanie Cerrillo all of Smithville, and Kristy Lasser of Florida. A son, Richard, Jr. and Ashley Lasser of Hartsville. Eight grandchildren, Landon, Peyton, and Aubrey Lasser, Alicia Long, Gabby Ramirez, Carly and Natalie Cerrillo, and Sophie Pevey. Sister, Dianna and Mike Johnson of Carthage. Brother, Kenneth and B.J. Temple of Baxter and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family has asked that donations be made to Love-Cantrell Funeral Home to help with burial expenses.




Deborah Sue Gerard

November 28, 2019

Deborah Sue Gerard age 61 of the Gassaway community passed away Monday morning, November 25, 2019 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  She was born May 3, 1958 at Fort Belvoir, VA.  Deborah was preceded in death by her father, Robert Gerard.  Deborah was a Steamstress Extraordinaire, Steam punk, the owner of Time Traveler Outfitters Costume Design.  she leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Kevin James of Gassaway; son, Lee (Jennifer) Polston of Macon, GA; 2 grandchildren, Jackson and Amelia; mother, Dorothy Gerard and many friends.  The family has honored Deborah’s request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Family and Friends sharing memories and celebrating the life of Deborah.  Visitation with the family will be on Friday 1 p.m. until the service at  2 p.m..  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.



Andrew Gregory William Radzewicz

Andrew Gregory William Radzewicz age 30 of Alexandria, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in Nashville.  He was born July 11, 1989 in Chester, PA.  Andrew was a construction worker.  He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Morris Stalvey, Jr.; grandmother, Barbara McCulloch and grandfather, Leonard Stalvey, Sr.  He is survived by his mother, Lisa Alderman of Alexandria; step-father, Brian Alderman of Murfreesboro; 2 sisters, Jessica Alderman and Casey Alderman both of Smithville; 1 brother, Matthew Alderman of Smithville; 2 aunts, Mary Riberio and Tracy Kalesnik both of PA; 1 uncle, Gregory Radzewicz of PA; several cousins and friends also survive.  The family has chosen a direct cremation.  Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday 2 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.   DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Jimmie Louise Davenport

November 23, 2019

80 year old Jimmie Louise Davenport of Liberty passed away Thursday at her residence. She was a DeKalb County native, a Baptist, and a wonderful mother and homemaker. The funeral will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Tim Bennett and Jerry Callis will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3-8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Hendrixson and Louise Vaughn. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Clarence Davenport. Children, Donna and Tim Bennett, Diana and Randy Bennett, Dawn Jackson, Dana and Jerry Callis, Daryl Davenport, David and Janetta Davenport, and Devin and Tracie Davenport. Sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Sister, Janie Oakley and a brother, Gwyen and Sharon Hendrixson. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.




Louie Brown McDowell, Sr.

Retired Master SGT Louie Brown McDowell, Sr. U.S.A.F age 93 of Smithville passed away peacefully Friday, November 22, 2019 at NHC Healthcare in Smithville surrounded by his children.  He was born April 3, 1926 in DeKalb County to his parents, the late Toy and Mary Edna Lawrence McDowell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Willa Mae Hayes McDowell; daughter, Emily Patricia “Pattie” Clayborn; son, Louie Brown McDowell, Jr.; brother, Toy McDowell, Jr.; sister, Inez Driver and grandson, Brian Clayborn.
Louie retired from the United States Air Force following 20 years of service that included combat action during WWII in France and Austria and assignments in Alaska, Texas, Maine and Hawaii.  Following his retirement from the Air Force, Louie also retired from Carrier Corporation after several years working there.
Louie was an avid woodworker and enjoyed sharing his knives, frames, quilt racks, chests and other treasures with his family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory, 3 children, Cheryl Kay (David) Bower of Shelbyville, Cathy Lynn (Ronnie) Gay of Fayetteville and David Lane McDowell of Baxter, TN; 12 grandchildren, Jason David (Vicky) McDowell of Birmingham, Jennifer April (Michael) Nordhoff of Franklin,  Patrick (Wendy) Clayborn of Smithville; Mark (Adrianne) Gay of Fayetteville, Matthew (Amber) Clayborn of Smithville, Mary Kathryn McDowell of Atlanta, Christian Gay of Fayetteville, Carolyn (Trent) Burnett of Manchester, Teresa Scott of Woodbury, William “BJ” Beard of Smyrna, Nathan (Melissa) McDowell of Sparta and Adam McDowell of Cookeville; 18 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Josh, Justin, Ethan, Ben, Carson, Caleb, Molly, Maelynn, Dylan, Maddie, Emily, Ella, Cody, Tiffany, Cherish, Charity and Hannah; 2 brothers, Ike McDowell of Norene and Dan McDowell of Nashville; 2 sisters-in-law, Linda (Clarence) Dickens of Mt. Juliet, Ruth Roper of Hermitage; brother-in-law, Don Bass of Nashville; special caregiving friend, Kim Stults and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Prosperity Cemetery with full Military Honors.  Visitation with the family will be on Sunday 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and Monday 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
