Carl Glenn Stembridge

Carl Glenn Stembridge, age 66, of McMinnville passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital. He was a native of Cannon Co.

Survivors include his children, Carla Stembridge, Tyler Stembridge, & Collin Stembridge, all of Woodbury & Shane Cook of Liberty; Stepdaughter, Lisa Brown of Woodbury; Grandchildren, Courtney Barrett & Trenton Bynum; Brothers, Harrell Stembridge, James (Sondra) Stembridge of Woodbury & Wade (Pat) Stembridge of Kunkla, OH; and Sisters, Bernice (Darce) Wimberly & Teresa Farless, both of Woodbury & Carolyn (Tommy) Burks of Murfreesboro. A great grandchild also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel & Mary Susan Harrell Stembridge; and Siblings, Joy Stembridge, Clarence Stembridge, Frank Stembridge, Russell Stembridge, Brenda Redmon, & Joe Bob Stembridge.

Carl was a member of the Baptist church and was a farrier and a horse trainer.

Funeral Services will be 2 PM Monday, August 24, 2020 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Center Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 PM to 8 PM Sunday, August 23, 2020 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Quentin Cook, Taylor Cook, Randall Deberry, Thomas Russell, Greg Wimberly, Trenton Bynum, & Jonathan Redmon.

Donations may be made to Woodbury Funeral Home to help the family with funeral expenses.




Helen Gora Taylor

August 22, 2020

Helen Gora Taylor age 78 of Smithville, passed away Thursday night, August 20, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro. She was born April 7, 1942 to her parents, the late George Washington and Stella Lou Green Gora. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Taylor; 2 brothers, Hugo and Louis Gora; and sister, Amy Hartsell. She was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church and worked at Texas Boot and Federal Mogul. She leaves to cherish her memory 1 daughter, Keisha (Jeff) Norman of Murfreesboro; 2 grandchildren, Lesley Lane and Maximus Norman; 3 siblings, George “Buddy” (Judy) Gora of Crossville, Berta Merolli of Plum, PA and Barbara Carter of Irwin, PA; aunt, Janette Abernathy of Athens, AL; uncle, David (Shirley) Green of Athens, AL; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The family has chosen a direct cremation and a Memorial Service will be 2 PM Monday, August 24, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bobby Thomason officiating. Her cremains will be buried later with family in Athens, AL. Visitation with the family will be on Monday 1 PM until the time of the service at 2 PM. Due to Covid-19 and the Governor’s Executive Orders 38 and 51, and Social Distancing Guidelines, we ask for the health and safety of everyone, that you please exercise social distancing. Our pews in the chapel are marked off to respect the guidelines and allow 100-125 for the service. The Funeral Home lounge is currently closed and No food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home at this time. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




James Alfred Thomas

August 21, 2020

James Alfred Thomas age 81 passed away Thursday August 20, 2020 at NHC of Smithville. He was born July 12, 1939 to his parents, the late Horace and Ada Martin Thomas. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Minnie Murphy, Bertha Mae Bennett, and Retha Frazier; brothers, James Thomas, Joe Thomas, Eugene Thomas, and Jay Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a farmer and a Baptist. He is survived by step-son, D.L. (Diane) Murphy of McMinnville; step-grandchildren, Eddie Murphy, Tammy Murphy, and Jeff Murphy; 9 step-great-grandchildren, Daniel, Josh, Adam, Emily, Chaisty, Brooklyn, Kyra, Breanna, and Brian; several great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lou Verna Woodruff; brother, Willie (Carolyn) Thomas of Smithville; several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be held Sunday August 23, 2020 at 2:00 PM at DeKalb Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Family and Friends will meet at the Cemetery. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Jo Doris Evins Boles

August 19, 2020

Ms. Jo Doris Evins Boles age 96 of Orlando FL, and a Smithville native, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020 at her home in Orlando, FL.

Ms. Boles was born on February 18, 1924 in Smithville, TN to her parents, the late Charles Potter “C.P.” & Jessie Conger Evins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Richard Boles and a sister, Helen Adcock. She was retired, having worked in the Hotel/Motel industry as a PBX Operator and was of the Catholic faith.

Graveside Services & Interment will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 11am at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery just prior to the time of services. There will be no visitation held at the funeral home.

Survivors include 3 Children, Barbara Kathleen DeVor, Margaret Ann Fedorchak, Charles Richard Boles & a Grandchild, Brandon Speer all of Orlando, FL.

Jody Lorraine Clayton Jones

Jody Lorraine Clayton Jones, passed peacefully, at her home, on Saturday, August 15th, at the
age of 60. She was born in Massachusetts on May 18 1960, to George and Marjorie Clayton and in time, with her parents and siblings moved to Smithville, Tn. Jody met and married Danny Bond and with whom she bore two sons, Nicholas Luther Bond and Jacob Daniel Bond. Jody was an adventurous person that loved to view nature in its element, she loved the mountains of TN, especially Rock Island. She loved spending time with family and especially her grandchildren, watching them play at the playground while hearing about their school and life adventures. Jody believed in extending kindness to all life forms, especially animals. She held an extra-tender spot for all of God’s creatures, which she would openly take in lost animals that needed a home and would care for
them so lovingly. Jody was a devoted mother and adored her sons Nick and Jake Bond, and held fond memories of their childhood which she would often share funny stories with her sons, their wives, and her grandchildren . Jody was a fighter in all aspects of her life. She fought through a Stage 4 Esophageal cancer diagnosis, fell into remission, and knew in her heart that it had returned. She continued to fight until the day she took her last breath. Jody is survived by her two sons Nick and Jake Bond, with their respective wives Lizbette and Trista. In addition she leaves four grandchildren that motivated and kept her pushing to live on. Jody adored her grandchildren and loved receiving photos and hearing stories about their lives. In addition, Jody leaves behind two brothers and two sisters, with a host of nieces and nephews, and friends. Jody would like to be remembered for her spirit to live and her heart filled with happiness when surrounded by those she loved. She will always be in our hearts. We love you mom, grandma Jody, and now, our own personal angel. May you rest in peace always. The family has honored Jody’s request to be cremated and Celebration of life will be announced later.




Linda Kay Shehane Standridge

Linda Kay Shehane Standridge age 70 of Smithville, passed away Monday evening, August 17, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She was born November 18, 1949 to her parents, the late Hoyte Shehane and Letha Pedigo Peters. In addition her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Shelton; great-grandson, Caylix Johnson; 2 sisters, Joyce Ann Smither, Ruth Shehane; brothers, Billy Manning, Daniel Peters, and John Shehane. She was a member of the house of Prayer and worked at Pioneer Furniture for 25 years and Federal Mogul for 12 years. She is survived by her husband, Clarence Standridge of Smithville; 3 children, Amanda Hamilton, Ginger Price and Richard Standridge all of Smithville; 9 grandchildren, Lacie Hamilton, Trey Hamilton, Alex Standridge, Star Standridge, Bella Standridge, Jake Standridge, Heather Standridge, Chrystyan Tate, Kynsley Hamilton; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Eloise Power and Peggy Minnear both of Smithville and Lorraine Shehane of Lebanon; 2 aunts, Jessie Bell Johnson and Frances Bates; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:AM Thursday, August 20, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel officiating and burial will follow in Minnear Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 4 PM until 7 PM and Thursday 9:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM. Due to COVID-19 and the Governor’s Executive Orders 38 & 51, and Social Distancing Guidelines, we ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing and although not required, we recommend the use of facemask while in the funeral home to help avoid spreading the virus. The funeral home pews are marked off to allow 100-125 people for the service and stay with the guidelines. At this time the Funeral Home Lounge is closed and No Food or Drinks are allowed in the Funeral Home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
