Pauline Dodd

Pauline Dodd age 87 of Smithville, passed away Friday night February 16, 2024 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. She was born June 28, 1936 to her parents, the late James and Rosie May Bayne Morris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Dodd; son, Jimmy Wade Thomason; daughter, Brenda Gail Thomason; granddaughter, Paula Joe Young; sister, Nellie Tyree; 2 brothers, James Albert Morris and John Morris. Mrs. Pauline went to school at Watertown, was of the Baptist faith and a factory worker. She is survived by 2 daughters, Carolyn Farrar of Murfreesboro and Janey (Larry) Dickens of Smithville; 5 grandchildren, Joseph McGuire, Brandon McGuire, Joe Young, II, Corey (Rebecca) Dickens, Eric (Nikki) Dickens; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Charlie Morris of Watertown; sister, Frances Dodd of Alexandria. Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday February 19, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. BJ Thomason officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. In addition to flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the DeKalb Animal Coalition, in memory of Mrs. Pauline. Danny “Dan” Gunter

Danny “Dan” Gunter age 76, of Florida, formerly of Smithville, passed away at the Webb House, Monday February 12, 2024. He was born April 20, 1947, to his parents the late Howard and Norma Phillips Gunter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Gunter. Mr. Gunter was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Gunter had a long career with the State of Florida as a professor at University of Florida, research economist with IFAS, and two stints as Director of the Florida Department of Citrus. He also worked for several private companies. He is survived by daughter, Danielle Gunter (Stig) Thomsen of Denmark; son, Matthew (Thi) Gunter of Georgia; grandchildren, Auden Thomsen, Benjamin Thomsen, Ella Gunter, and Madison Gunter; sister, Sharon (Harold) Rader of Smithville; 3 nieces also survive. The family has honored Mr. Gunter’s request to be cremated and no services are planned at this time. The family ask in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Valdosta State University Foundation, Phil Gunter Scholarship Fund. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Gunter Family.




Scott Benjamin Carroll Sr.

February 14, 2024

Mr. Scott Benjamin Carroll Sr. age 61 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday evening at his residence in Smithville. He attended First Baptist Church in Smithville and was a retired construction worker with American Constructers.

Mr. Carroll was born on October 07, 1962 in Phoenix, Arizona. He is preceded in death by his parents, Irwin Ray and Nancy Lee Avery Carroll and grandparents, Ben & Donda Avery and Irwin & Florence Carroll.

The family has chosen direct cremation and a memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024. Visitation will begin at noon until the service at 1:00 at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home.

Survivors include 3 children, Scott Carroll Jr., Erin (Josh) Turner and Joseph (Megan) Carroll, 4 grandchildren, Aidan & Liam Turner and Lexi & Allie Carroll all of Smithville. 2 sisters, Rebecca (Duane) Hegge of Arizona and Debbie (Noel) McSweeney of Kansas, mother of his children, Sherri Carroll, several aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. Special thanks to Bobbie Sue Wilson and Lindsey Winfree with Gentiva Hospice.

In addition to flowers donations can be made to the Over Comers group at Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church and First Baptist Church Youth Group.

Patrick Patton

February 10, 2024

Patrick Patton age 91, of McMinnville, passed away Thursday night February 8, 2024, at N H C Healthcare of Smithville. He was born February 8, 1933, to his parents, the late Herman and Virgie Green Patton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, J.M. Patton, Vernon Patton, and Raymond Patton. Mr. Patton was a member of Christ Chapel Church, Retired from U. S. Air Force, and Retired as Central Office Supervisor with Ben Lomand. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Reba Patton of McMinnville; 2 sons, Timothy Patton of Smithville and Douglas Patton of McMinnville; 2 grandchildren, Justin Patton, and Allison Patton; sisters, Lois Hughes of Florida, Louise (Tom) Dubbs of Missouri, Lillian (Ernie) Bolin of Missouri; brother, Jerry (Jane) Patton of Florida. Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday, February 15, 2024, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sommer Worley officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Wednesday 2 PM till 5 PM and on Thursday 10:AM till the time of the at 1 PM. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, in memory of Mr. Patton. Melinda Loann Henson Gilbert

Melinda Loann Henson Gilbert, age 55, wife of Michael Wayne Gilbert, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Melinda was born January 9, 1969 in Louisa, Kentucky to the late Kenneth Drew Henson and Debra Thompson Henson Lemaster.

Melinda was a former medical technician with Frankfort Regional Medical Center, a former clerk with Lawrenceburg Wal-mart and attended Ninevah Christian Church. Melinda loved to cook and was known for her traditional Eastern Kentucky style. She was devoted to the people she loved and especially to her grandchildren, whom she adored.

Including her husband Michael, Melinda is survived by her children, Mariah Melissa Driskell and her husband Jonathan of Lawrenceburg, and Stephen Carl Peterman of Michigan; her grandchildren, Rayleigh Marie Driskell and Alaiyna Kenasen Driskell; her siblings, twin sister Iva Melissa “Missy” Henson Collins (Lou), Vicki Thompson Painter and Barbara “Bobbie” Ellen Thompson Compton.

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Will Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Yatesville Memorial Gardens in Louisa, KY. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. till time of service at 11:00 A.M.

Michael Lee Young

February 7, 2024

 Michael Lee Young, age 64 of Smithville, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was a financial advisor and a member of the First Baptist Church in Smithville.

Mr. Young was born on March 20, 1959 in Sparta, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barnett & Nora Lee Pirtle Young, maternal grandparents, Shelie & Sudie Pirtle, paternal grandparents, O.W. & Mae Young.

The family has honored Mr. Young’s wishes to be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 4:00 pm at Smithville First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 3:00 until service at 4:00

Survivors include 1 brother, D.Y. (Deb) Young of Smithville, 2 nephews, Wesley (Melissa) Young of Baxter, Hunter (Sarah) Collins of Lebanon, 2 nieces, Tia (Brandon) Puckett and Sommer (Tony) Luna all of Smithville. Several Aunts, cousins and friends also survive.
