Wenona “Pat” Delaine Owen Odom

Wenona “Pat” Delaine Owen Odom, age 91, of Smithville, Tennessee, formerly of Flowery Branch, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 9, 2024 at home surrounded by family. She was born on August 12, 1932, in Fort Payne, Alabama, to the late Riley Owen and Jessie Estelle Hampton Owen.

On February 24, 1951, Wenona embarked on a lifelong journey with her best friend and soulmate, Russell (Bill) Odom. Wenona was a quiet, extraordinary woman with a heart full of love and talents that knew no bounds. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother with a strong faith and a kind spirit that touched the lives of all that knew her. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—reading, cooking, quilting, tending to her garden, admiring flowers, rocking on the front porch, and going to flea markets. Her dedication to her family was unmatched.

Wenona is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 73 years, Russell (Bill) Eugene Odom, who supported and cared for her unconditionally during their marriage, illness, and her final days. She also leaves behind her sons, Jeff Odom and his wife Helen of Smithville, TN; Mark Odom of Smithville, TN; daughter Delaine Williams and her husband Glenn of Flowery Branch, GA; Daughter-in Laws, Venise Tuttle of Sneedville, TN; Delores Kimbrell of Cornelia, GA. Grandchildren, Lee Odom of Cleveland, GA; Crissy (Jay) Ivey of Belmont, GA; Brandy Bonner of Gainesville, GA; Amy (Eric) Stevens of Flowery Branch, GA; Ashley (Eric) Webb of Clarksville, GA. Will (Brittney) Odom of Smithville, TN; Whitney (Chas) Keithan of Soddy-Daisy, TN; Taylor Williams of Gainesville, GA; Courtney Odom of Smithville, TN; Morgan (Jeremy) Whitlow of Lafayette, TN; Siblings include sister, Helen White of Douglasville, GA; brother , Alfred (Annie May) Owen of Fort Payne, AL; Sister-in-Law, Sandra Owen of Fort Payne, AL.

She is also survived by her 13 great-grandchildren Hunter; Conner; Bailey; Eastin; Gage; Judson; Jolie; Lucas; Charlie; Scarlet; Lainey; Bella; Aubrey; numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Danielle.

In addition to her parents, Wenona was preceded in death by sons, Steve (Venise) Odom; Barry Odom, and his wife, Judy; Joel (Delores) Odom; brothers, Winston Owen and his wife, Barbara; Roland (Sandra) Owen; J.W. Owen; sisters, June Owen; Carylon Owen; brother-in-law, Mickey White.

Family and friends are invited to share in the celebration of Wenona’s life. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, from noon to 2:00 PM at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 4100 Falcon Pkwy, Flowery Branch, Georgia. Funeral Services will follow at same location beginning at 2:00 PM. Rev. Scott Wilson will be officiating. Internment will take place in the church cemetery, immediately following the service.

Maudie “Irene” Hibdon

Maudie “Irene” Hibdon, age 96, a cherished resident of Shelby Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on January 23, 1928, in Woodbury, Tennessee, to her adoring parents Alfred Cornie and Hannah Mae (nee Ferrell) Gunter. At a very young age, Irene embarked on a journey of nurturing and caring becoming a beloved nanny for the young children in town, later after getting married she worked at the Shirt Factory sewing buttonholes in shirts, and still raising her young family. It was through these experiences that she discovered her innate gift for compassion and care giving. Irene had a profound love for gardening, nurturing flowers, and fondest for birds, even collecting small bird figurines. Irene could often be found working on a puzzle, and as she got older she found joy in creative coloring. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whose joy brought her endless happiness. She dedicated her time and efforts to various charitable causes, volunteering with organizations such as the March of Dimes and Easter Seals. A skilled notary public and exceptional bookkeeper, Irene’s dedication to her work was matched only by her warmth and kindness towards others. Her Southern charm, humbleness and genuine hospitality was one of her outstanding qualities, “once you met her you loved her.” Anyone who truly knows Maudie Irene will agree that she was given the perfect name. Maudie-as a girl’s name is of old German and French origin. The meaning of Maudie is “Mighty in Battle.” Irene meaning “Peaceful” from the Greek goddess who personified peace. The following attributes of her name are a perfect example of who she is. Irene enjoyed many passions in her life, she was fond of many sporting activities, especially watching NASCAR and Sunday afternoon football with her boys. Often, when you stopped by to visit especially in the evening you would find her watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, they were her favorite TV programs. In a beautiful twist of fate, Irene found true love in James Edward Hibdon, with whom she celebrated 64 years of marriage until his passing in 2009. Together, they built a life filled with the love of eight children sharing laughter, and countless cherished memories. Irene will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children: Kenneth (Tonya) Hibdon, Priscilla “Jean” (Dennis) Wood, James Michael (the late Debbie) Hibdon, Terry (JoAnn) Hibdon, Phyllis (the late Stephen) Lyles, Gary (Linda) Hibdon, Ronald (Monica) Hibdon, and Robin (Edward) Gross. She was a proud grandmother to 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her siblings Elsie Pauline (Andy) Smithson, Chole Evelyn (Calvin) Bogle, and Thad (Mary) Gunter. Irene’s legacy of love, compassion, and generosity will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Dekalb Funeral Chapel 863 South Congress Blvd., Smithville, Tennessee from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Her burial will be Banks Cemetery, Smithville, Tennessee. Melinda Gail Taylor Hullett

February 23, 2024

Mrs. Melinda Gail Taylor Hullett, age 56 of Smithville, passed away Thursday afternoon at her residence in Smithville. She was a homemaker and attended the Church of the Nazarene.

She was born on July 18, 1967 in Smithville, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Brenda Taylor and 1 brother, Jerry Wayne Taylor.

Visitation with the Hullett family will be on Sunday from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm and on Monday from 9:00 am until the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens and Bro. Darrell Gill and Bro. Trent Colwell will officiate.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Bobby Hullett of Smithville, 1 step-son, Marshall Hullett of Smithville, 3 brothers, Ronnie (Stacy) Taylor of Smithville, Jimmy (Romanda) Taylor of Gainesboro, and Timmy Taylor of Smithville, 2 sisters, Janie (Adam) Hale and Vickey (Freddy) Atnip all of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Amanda Tara Pulliam

Amanda Tara Pulliam age 45, of McMinnville passed away Sunday February 18, 2024, at St. Thomas River Park Hospital E.R. She was born June 24, 1978, to her parents Glinda Gail Steakley and Thomas Clifford Mosley, Sr. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, James B. Atnip. Ms. Pulliam is survived by her children, Jasmine Anderson (Bryce Hildreth), James Anderson, Aliyah Pulliam, Paris Pulliam (Leland Hobbs); sister, Mistie Nigh (Dale Nigh); brother, Thomas Mosley; grandson Brylen; mother, Glinda Steakley; father, Thomas Clifford Mosley, Sr.; grandmother, Dorothy D. Atnip; lots of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, at 2:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Gath Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, February 23, 10:00AM until the time of the service at 2:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Margaret Peggy Prem

February 21, 2024

Mrs. Margaret Peggy Prem, age 86 of Smithville, passed away Friday afternoon at NHC in Smithville. She was of the Catholic faith.

Mrs. Prem was born on October 15, 1937 in New York. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Prem.

The family has chosen direct cremation and there will be no visitation for Mrs. Prem.




Tammy Denise West

Tammy Denise West age 57 of McMinnville, formerly of Smithville, passed away November 4, 2023, at St. Thomas Hospital West in Nashville. A native of Cannon County, Tammy was born January 13, 1966, to her parents the late Edwina Ferrell and William Morris. She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Jess and Lily Ferrell. Tammy was a member of Martin’s Chapel Fellowship and was a Homemaker. Tammy was a loving wife, beloved mother and devoted grandmother. She was a person who never met a stranger and would help anyone in need. Her smile and laughter will be missed by anyone who knew her. Her unexpected death has placed a huge hole in her family’s hearts. Tammy is survived by her husband, Charles West; children, Shannon Ray Herman, Shane Miller, Jessica Ray, Holly (Ryan) Whaley and Ashley (Jonathan) Morris; brother, Willian “Bud” Morris; sister Kathy McDaniel; daughter-in-law, Heidi Herman; grandchildren, Christian, Lydia, Madison, Bethany, Tabitha, Jeremiah, Kayleb, Taylor, Noah, Aadyn, Levi, Chloe, Colton, Sam, Owen, and Mason; her faithful fur babies, Littleman and Jack; lifelong friend, Linda Kennedy; special son, Cortney Bradshaw; and other extended family members and many friends. Her family has honored her wishes to be cremated with a brief Memorial Service to be held Friday, February 23 at 11:AM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.
