Paul C. Close

Paul C. Close, age 87, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 6, 2021. Paul was born in Temperance Hall, TN (DeKalb Co.) on February 9, 1934, to his parents Tommy and Ova Taylor Close.

Paul lived a rich and full life and was loved by all who knew him.

He retired from Potter and Transcon Freight Lines. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Union. He loved his job and enjoyed meeting people during his career and carried on the stories of people he met throughout his life. Paul enjoyed spending time with his beloved family during his retirement.

Survivors include wife Myla Gannon Close; children: Patricia (Eric) Jackson, Brent (Nancy) Close, Lori (Wesley) Ligon; grandchildren: Stephanie (Ross) Keisling, Matthew Williams, Cortnie (Bobby) Cordell, Joey Close, Ashley (Mike) Williams, Kaleigh (Seth) Sabin, McKenna Ligon; and ten great grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Sue Patterson Close; and brothers, Edwin and Shirley Owen Close.

Visitation will be at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road on Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. On Friday, December 10, 2021, there will be a one-hour visitation at 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers: Matthew Williams, Joey Close, Ross Keisling, Mike Williams, Bobby Cordell, Seth Sabin, Eric Jackson and Wesley Ligon. Interment will be in Smithville at the Whorton Springs Cemetery, at 12:30 p.m., 117 McMinnville Highway, Smithville, TN. Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 615-331-1952.




Claude Keith Billings

Mr. Claude Keith Billings age 91 of the Johnson Chapel Community of DeKalb County passed away Monday morning, December 6, 2021 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital.

Mr. Billings was born on January 18, 1930 in Silver Point, TN to his parents, the late Ray & Clara Felts Billings. In addition to his Parents, he is preceded in death by his Wife, Hilda Rhea Billings, 3 Sisters, Alma Billings, Odene Prater & Ellen Hutchins. 2 Brothers, Ernest Billings & Melvin Billings. Mr. Billings served his county in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a Pattern Maker at Paragrind Industries and was a member of the Johnson Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 12noon from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Steven Billings will officiate with burial following at Peeled Chestnut Cemetery with Gary Rickman officiating at the graveside. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon.

Survivors include 3 Sons & Daughters-in-law, Steven (Tina) Billings of Sweetwater, TN, John (Wendy) Billings of Michigan & Jason (Sally) Billings of Brentwood, TN. 1 Daughter & Son-in-law, Claudette (Glenn) Peterson of Maryland. 1 Brother & Sister-in-law, RV (Brenda) Billings of Sparta, TN. Special Sisters-in-law, Helen Faul of Michigan & Robbie Young of Rock Island, TN. 8 Grandchildren, Bruce & Tripti Billings, Stormie & Ethan Pryor, Patricia Peterson, Samantha Peterson, Jonathon & Allie Peterson, Wyatt Billings, Emily & Josh Denk, Elissa & Collin McRae. Several Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews & Friends also survive.

Macon Lorene Hale

Macon Lorene Hale age 80 of Smithville, passed away Friday night at NHC HealthCare in McMinnville. She was born August 19, 1941 to her parents, the late Chester Donald and Vera Christine Jones Chapman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Truitt Hale; brother, Willie Chapman. Ms. Hale was a member of Open Word Tabernacle Church and a homemaker. She is survived by daughter, Amanda Hale and Fiancé, T. J. Jones of Smithville; granddaughter, Deeanna Neal of Smithville; sister, Pauline (Danny) Green of Smithville; brother, Roy (Teresa) Chapman of Smithville; sister-in-law, Elsie Miller of Smithville. Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday, December 8, 2021 with Bro. Darren Kinzer officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday 4 PM until 7 PM and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. The Funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Mrs. Billie Sue Jones

December 6, 2021

Mrs. Billie Sue Jones age 86 of McMinnville, TN, died Sunday, December 05, 2021, at NHC Health Care. She was born November 05, 1935, in DeKalb County, TN, was a homemaker, and was a member of Gath Baptist Church. She had retired from the Warren County School System, loved her flowers and her cats, and was a great cook. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents Tommy Sylvester and Florence Jones Humphrey, husband Arzo Austin Jones, son Paul H. Cantrell, sisters Margie King, Ellen Cantrell, Doris McBride, and Shirley Meade, brothers W.A. Humphrey and Clyde Humphrey, grandson Wesley Jones, and son-in-law Danny Culwell.

Survivors include her step daughter Debra Culwell, step sons Jeff Jones (Hillari) and Carlton Jones (Donna), grandchildren Erin Cantrell, Tommy (Erin) Culwell, Christy (Brandon) Boling, Claire Hale, William Hale, , Martha (Tyler) Taylor, and Will Puckett, great grandchildren Austin Newby, Annabella Culwell, Trigg Culwell, Jeb Culwell, and Maggie Taylor, special niece Dotty Pitman, along with several other nieces, nephews, and family friends.

Funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 08, 2021, at the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Rick Stewart and Tommy Culwell will officiate. Interment will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens in Smithville, TN. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and again on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 2:00 P.M. at McMinnville Funeral Home.

Letha Ann Skelton

December 5, 2021

Letha Ann Skelton age 62, passed away December 2, 2021 at her grandson’s residence in Coffee County. She was born May 28, 1959 to her parents the late John Raymond and Edith May Raglin Adams. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Skelton; brothers, Dan Adams, and Jim Adams; sister, Loretta Spiker. Ms. Skelton was a homemaker. She is survived by her daughter, Brandy (Jamie) Murphy of Smithville; grandson, Dakota Stith of Coffee County; granddaughter, Hallie (Brittney) McCardell of Smithville; son, Hoss Stith of Smithville; daughter, Tara Stith of Smithville; sisters, Judy Adams of Smithville and Rita Brown of Florida; brother, Darold (LeAnn) Carter of Cookeville; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family has chosen direct cremation and no services are planned. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Mary Margaret Young

Mary Margaret Young age 77, of Smithville passed away December 2, 2021 at the Webb House in Smithville. She was born August 28, 1944 to her parents, the late Ray Ambers and Mary Winnie Raymond Neal. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John R. Young; daughter, Janice Carol Jenkins; 4 brothers, Ray Neal, Jr., John Robert Neal, Clayton Melvin Neal, and Billy Charles Neal. Ms. Young was a member of Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church and she was retired from Kingston Timers having worked for more than 30 years. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Mark) Sullivan of Smithville; brother, Morris (Shirley) Neal of McMinnville; grandchildren, Joshua (Tera) Redmon of KY, Brandon Sullivan of Smithville, Meagan (Seth) Sheffield of IN; great-grandchildren, Josie Mae Redmon, Piper Rose Redmon, and Aria Joye Sheffield; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Monday, December 6, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bill Robertson officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday December 5, 2021 at 1:00PM until 5:00PM and on Monday 9:00AM until the time of the service at 11:00AM. In addition to flowers donations may be made to Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church or Lighthouse Christian Camp. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
