Walter Ray (Tiny) Pedigo

March 12, 2018

71 year old Walter Ray (Tiny) Pedigo of Smithville passed away Sunday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was a farmer and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. David Murphy and Brad Murphy will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the funeral at 1 p.m. Pedigo was preceded in death by his parents, Toy and Trudie Parsley Pedigo; five brothers, Floyce Pedigo, Elmo Pedigo, Cordell Pedigo, James Pedigo, and Leo Pedigo; and four sisters, Willie Cantrell, Evelyn Sandlin, Myrtle Stanley, and Mandy Vaughn. He is survived by a brother, Clarence Pedigo; children, Trudie and Greg Matthews and Teresa and Micah Murphy; step children, Ann Lattimore, Robert Cox, Phyllis and Eddie Walker, and Joe and Tammy Cox, Chris Cox, Brenda Bratcher, and Martha and George Cunningham; grandchildren, Darren Murphy, Erica Murphy, Austin McCoy, Christian Matthews, and Zachary Matthews; and a great granddaughter, Audrey Ackerson all of Smithville. Several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mr. Pedigo to help with burial expenses.




Cathy May Yount

March 8, 2018

Cathy May Yount age 54 of Smithville, passed away Wednesday morning, March 7, 2018 at her residence. She was born September 5, 1963 to her parents, the late Frank and Barbara Ann Wessel Haddock. Cathy attended the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Lebanon as a child growing up and she was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Ricky Yount of Smithville; daughter, Brittany Haddock of Monterey; 2 sons, Jonathan Haddock of Watertown and Josh Lawson of Monterey; brother, Frank “Speedy” Haddock of Gordonsville; 2 sisters, Becky (Randy) Likens of Lebanon and Teresa Gail (David) Mofield of Alexandria; special friend, Sabrina Lattimore of Smithville and several nieces and nephews also survive. Cathy’s request was to be cremated and there will be a memorial visitation held Friday, March 9, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel from 1 PM until 4 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Carl David “C.D.” Bennett II

March 6, 2018

Carl David “C.D.” Bennett II, 35, of Murfreesboro, TN, formerly of Harlan, went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 3, 2018. He was born in Harlan County on February 2, 1983 to Carl and Charlene Davis Bennett. He was a graduate of Harlan High School and received his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Pikeville. C.D. worked as the Human Resources Manager at Something Ink Manufacturing in Nashville, TN.C.D. was a follower of Christ who believed in his faith. He was a loving husband and father, always smiling, never meeting a stranger. He enjoyed the outdoors, metal detecting, hiking, fishing, hunting and playing the guitar.
C.D. is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Hobart and Oma Davis; paternal grandparents, Homer and Vera Downs Bennett; aunts, Craige Bennett Thompson and Brenda Moore Davis; and uncles, Bobby Davis, Ed Davis, and Larry Osborne.
He leaves behind many friends and extended family who loved him dearly.
C.D. is survived by his wife, Kveta Bennett, two children, twins Katelyn and Nicholas England, of Murfreesboro, TN; his mother, Charlene Phelps and her husband, Scott, and by his father, Carl Bennett (Wendy Parker); father and mother-in-law, Frantisek Rint and Kvetoslava Rintova of the Czech Republic; sisters, Lesley (Shawn) Bryant of Harlan, Julie (Shayne) Stittums of Berea, and Trish (Brian) Hall of Smithville, TN; brother-in-law, Jakub Rint; nieces and nephews, McKenzie, Kaitlyn, Emily, Brayden, Braxton, Jaycee, Callie, Chelsea, Whitney, and Reid; and his best friend, Brandon (Tater) Taylor.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Friday, March 9, in the Chapel of Harlan Funeral Home. The funeral will take place at 11:00 am Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Sean Daniels, pastor of Liggett Baptist Church, will be officiating. Burial will be at the Hoskins Cemetery in Laurel County.

Officer Joe Bowen, Badge #16, passed away on March 1, 2018 at age 28. Visitation is 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday, March 4th at Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN. The Funeral Service, conducted by Brother David Lawson and Brother Chris McMillen, is 1 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018 at Fairview Church (1660 Leeville Pike) Lebanon TN. Interment in Salem Cemetery, Liberty TN with full police honors. Pallbearers: Lebanon Police Department. Honorary Pallbearers: Beau Barnett, Wade Meyers, Stephen Barrett, Jacob Bowen, Chase Cantrell, Clint Halfacre, Brandon Deffendoll, Gray Parish, Eric Gray, Sean Tramel, and Matthew Holleman.Joe had been a very devoted police officer for several years. He was a member of the Old Fashioned Freewill Baptist Church in Smithville. He is survived by wife Kim Bowen; children Katy Jo and Wesley Brock Bowen; parents Dwayne and Lisa Bogle Bowen; brother Jacob (Kayla) Bowen; uncle Mike Bowen; nephew Knox Bowen; in-laws Steven and Kathy Deffendoll; brothers and sisters-in law Brandon Deffendoll, Chris and Kristina McMillen; niece and nephew Lacey and Cole McMillen. He is preceded in death by grandparents Frank and Helen Bowen and Lemuel and Betty Bogle.

Tommy Nelson Thompson

Funeral services for Tommy Nelson Thompson, age 77 of Cookeville will be held Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 2 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. Brother James Nabors and Sister Dana Fouts will officiate. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery.The family will receive friends Saturday 4:00pm to 7:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Thompson passed away on February 28, 2018 at Overton County Nursing Home in Livingston, TN.
He was born July 18, 1940 in Baxter, TN to the late Albert Cordell Thompson and Elise Morgan Thompson.
Tommy was a lifelong resident of Cookeville, except for a short tour in New York while enlisted in the United States Air Force. He owned his own business, Gaw and Thompson Meat Processing, along with his beloved wife Wanda and they worked side by side for many years to make it successful. Over the years he gained a great reputation as an honest businessman that cared about his customers like they were a part of his family. Two of Tommy’s passions was his farm and his cattle. He tended to his farm and his herd with enthusiasm and spent every minute he could working the land and taking care of his cattle. Tommy also enjoyed deer hunting and talking about his hunting trips with everyone he could. He loved his family and friends and will be missed by many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Rose Gaw Thompson; and a brother, Albert Cordell Thompson II all of Cookeville, TN.
Survived by his sons, Tommy Thompson Jr. and Rita Camacho of Charlotte N.C., Tim Thompson and wife Jonamie of Tyler TX, Kevin Thompson and wife Roxanne of Hilham, TN, and Kyle Thompson and wife Becky of Smithville, TN; brother, Eddie Thompson and wife Linda of Cookeville; sister-in-law, Faye Thompson of Cookeville; Grandsons, Cody Thompson of Cookeville, Zach Thompson of Murfreesboro, Alex Thompson of Cookeville; Granddaughters, Heather Thompson of Asheville, N.C., Kristen Militello (Anthony) of Denver, Colorado, Valerie Farrell (Samuel) of San Antonio, TX, Courtney Reardon (Seth) of Morristown, TN, Rylee Thompson of Tyler, TX; Great Grandson, Damien Militello of Denver, CO.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.




Ruth Darnell Nokes

Ruth Darnell Nokes age 58 of Smithville, passed away Wednesday night, February 28, 2018 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. She was born July 29, 1959 to her parents, Frank Don and Ruby Hale Driver. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Nokes. She was a homemaker. Survivors include 3 children, Joe (Jennifer) Nokes of Smithville, Donald (Candice) Nokes of Lebanon and Crystal McCorkel of Indiana; 10 grandchildren, Amy Nokes, Sarah Nokes, Leeah Nokes, Derek Willey, Taylor Nokes, Jacob Nokes, Kaitlin (Justin) Harn, Christopher Rus, Timothy Rue and Alya Donatto; 2 great-grandchildren; parents, Don and Ruby Driver of Smithville; 2 sisters, Kathy Brown and Jeanette Cox both of Smithville and companion, Joe E. Watson of Smithville. Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Sunday, March 4, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in Mt. Ararat Cemetery at Pea Ridge. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 2 PM until 8 PM and Sunday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
