Pastor Cleo Sanders

Pastor Cleo Sanders, age 71 of Smithville was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

Cleother Sanders was born on July 10, 1948 in Hernando, MS to Willie & Elnora Sanders. Cleo accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in 1975 under the leadership of Lee Roy Echoles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Felix Sanders, 4 sisters, Eloise Patton, Annette, Mammie and Norell Sanders. Brother, Robert Crystap.

Cleo was the pastor of Grace Bible Church from 1979 until February 2020. He was an animal lover, especially dogs & pigeons. He also had cows, sheep, goats and had a great passion for fishing as well. Cleo was loved by many and never met a stranger.

Funeral Services for Cleo Sanders will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 11am from the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Pastor Burchron Walker will officiate and burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, March 20th from 4pm-7pm and on Saturday, March 21st from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am.

Cleo will forever be missed and cherished by his Wife, Mary Nimmons Sanders of Smithville. 4 Sons, Cleother (Jamie) Sanders Jr. of McMinnville, Eric (Elisabeth) Sanders of Colorado, Micah (Jennifer) Sanders of Smithville, Frankie Kelsor Jr. of Dibrell. 3 Daughters, Elizabeth Sanders of Nashville, Triniti & Kara Kelsor of Smithville. Brother, Willie & Julia Sanders, Jr. of Dayton, TN, 6 Sisters, Josephine Blair & Norma McNeal both of GA, Ida (Jesse) Westbrook of IL, Clementine Williams of Smithville, Brenda (Chauncy) Felix of MS, Marlo (Ray) Williams of AR. 7 Grand Children, Triniti & Kara Kelsor, Isaiah & Asher Sanders, Erian Sanders, Andrew Johnson, and Madison Pelham. Sisters-in law, Brothers-in-law, other relatives and a host of friends also survive.

In addition to flowers, donations can be made to the DeKalb Animal Coalition in memory of Mr. Cleo.




David Gray Vanderpool

March 16, 2020

David Gray Vanderpool age 77 of Liberty passed away Saturday March 14, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born July 14, 1942 to his parents, the late James Frank & Lora Dell Mathis Vanderpool. Mr. Vanderpool was a retired truck driver for 19 years for Fakes & Hooker Lumber Co. in Lebanon and a member of Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Tuesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Charles Allen Gentry & Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in Sycamore Cemetery in Woodbury. Visitation with the family will be Monday 3 P.M. until 8 P.M. and Tuesday 10:AM until the time of the funeral at 1 P.M. Survivors include Brother: Randy (Kim) Vanderpool of Liberty; Niece: Brianna Cumming of Carthage; Several cousins also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Mary Frances Crook

Ms. Mary Frances Crook age 85 of Liberty passed away Sunday afternoon March 15, 2020 at her residence. She was born April 2, 1934 to her parents, the late Haskell & Gladys Maxwell Montgomery. She was a retired factory worker and attended Brush Creek U.M.C. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Clayton Crook; Daughter: Janice Crook; Grandson: John David Crook; Sisters: Ruth Daniels and Ruby Mantick; Brothers: Ralph & Larry Montgomery. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M.
Wednesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Wilson Williams & Rick Frazier officiating and burial to follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday 11:AM until 8 P.M. and Wednesday 10 AM until time of the service at 1 P.M.. She is survived by her children: David (Donna) Crook of Alexandria, Gary Crook of Liberty, Donna (Wayne) Driver of Alexandria; Grandchildren: Patrick (Jana) Crook, Randy (Amber) Crook, Noelle Driver; Great-Grandchildren: Clayton Crook, Summer Crook, Alyssa Crook, Abby Joe Crook, Benjamin Crook, Autumn Crook; Brother: Jerry (Alma) Montgomery of Dowelltown, Carl (Lois) Montgomery of Liberty; Sisters-in-law: Jean Goodwin of Smithville, Gail Crook Cassidy of Watertown, Jenny Montgomery of Liberty; Several nieces and nephews also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Harold Massa

March 15, 2020

Mr. Harold Massa, age 81 of the Johnson Chapel Community of DeKalb County passed away Friday night, March 13, 2020 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Harold was born on November 14, 1938 in Cookeville to his parents, the late Oakley & Jessie Mae Stoglin Massa. He was a retired truck driver with the State of Tennessee and attended the Johnson Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 16, 2020 at 11am from the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Corey Price will officiate and burial will follow at the Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, from 2pm-8pm & Monday, from 10am until the service time at 11am.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Oneida Jones Massa. Nephews, Gary Massa & Gary Jones. Survivors include 3 Sisters, Arlena (Lynn) Sliger, Eulene Elrod, Willene Lefever all of Baxter. 2 Brothers, Jerry (Lisa) Massa of Baxter & O.V. (Gladys) Massa of Sparta. Niece & Nephew, Lori (Josh) Holloway & Steve Jones both all of Sparta. Great Nieces & Nephew, Marley Jones, Lauren Holloway & Luke Holloway all of Sparta. Brother-in-law, Frank & Jo Ann Jones of Sparta. Several Nieces, Nephews & Cousins also survive.

Rex Allen Graham

Rex Allen Graham, age 63, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020 at Centennial Medical Center. He was born January 29, 1957 to his parents the late James Martin and Juanita Cantrell Graham. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sons, Gregory and Tyler Graham; aunt, Magalene Dutton. Mr. Graham was a Gunsmith and worked in Tool and Die for many people for more than 40 years, and he attended Gath Baptist Church. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1725 of McMinnville. He is survived by his children, Jaclyn (Corey) Davis, and Josh Graham both of McMinnville; grandchildren, Kayleigh Murphy, Kiptyn Davis, and Briggs Davis; sisters, Faye (Larry) McCormick of Iowa, Regina (Chris) Aman of Ohio; brothers, Mitch (Shelia) Graham, and Kent (Lisa) Graham all of Ohio; the mother of his children, Tina Thomas of McMinnville. The funeral services will be Monday March 16, 2020 at 2 P.M. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Rick Stewart officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday 1 P.M. until 5 P.M. and Monday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2 P.M. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Taye Crook

March 15, 2020

85 year old Taye Crook of Alexandria died Saturday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home. Ronnie Smith and Ricky Scruggs will officiate and burial will be in the Dismal Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Taylor Cronk and Vada Louise Franklin and a son, Billy Wayne. Survivors include her husband of 66 years Charles Crook of Alexandria. Children, Mary Lou (Tom) Baumann of Smithville, Judy Ann Crook of Alexandria, Cathy Bayne of Alexandria, Dan (Angela) Crook of Lebanon, and Brenda (Jonathan) Hammond of Columbia. Grandchildren, Jason Nixon of Knoxville, Jeff (Sarah) Nixon of College Grove, R.D. Bayne of Smyrna, Christopher Crook of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kayla Crook of Lebanon, Joshua Crook of Lebanon, and Austin Hammond of Columbia. Great grandchildren, William Nixon, Mary Nixon, Jordan Bane, and Grace Bayne. Half brothers, Melvin (Joyce) Cronk of Rickman and Larry Keith (Linda) Cronk of Gallatin.
