Shirley Ann Joslyn

Shirley Ann Joslyn age 77 of Smithville passed away Monday night June 7, 2021 at her residence. She was born April 1, 1944 to her parents, the late Dub and Florence Davenport Prater. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Cantrell; grandson, Jacob Cantrell and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chuck and Betty Walker. Shirley was saved as a young girl and was a Baptist. She worked in housecleaning and was also a babysitter. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 55 years, Raymond Eugene Joslyn of Smithville; daughter, Alice (Paul) Hutchens of Smithville; son-in-law, Ricky Cantrell of Smithville; grandchildren, Ashley (Raymond) Lippart, Andrew (Gennie) Hutchens, Tiffany (Bobby) Price, Bridget (Rainy) Howell, Matthew Cantrell, Hayle (Anthony) Cantrell, and Jade Cantrell; great-grandchildren, Raymond Lippart, IV, Haven Howell, Rainy Howell, Jr, Raleigh Cantrell and Alexander Mofield. Funeral services will be 11:AM Friday June 11, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday 4 PM until 7 PM and Friday 9:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM. Due to Covid-19, the funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Thomas Richard Squires, age 63 of Smithville, TN passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Squires was preceded in death by his father, Robert Squires; brother, Robert Squires, II; and a daughter, Alexis Squires.

The family has chosen direct cremation.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Heather Heraty, Mickey Gidley, and Madison Squires all of Michigan, and Joleen Squires of Smithville; 2 sons, Thomas Squires, Jr. and Daniel Squires both of Michigan; 2 stepdaughters, Mary Perrin of Smithville, and Kristel Bush of Murfreesboro; mother, Joan Squires of Michigan; 16 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild; brothers and sisters, David Squires, Marcia Furby, Mary Salais, Barbara Cuddie, Pam Crane, and John Squires; significant other of 22 years, Linda Knowles of Smithville.

Dianne Oteri Emberton

Dianne Oteri Emberton age 66, of the Keltonburg Community passed away Saturday night June 5, 2021 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. She was born April 1, 1955 to her parents, the late Gregory and Marjorie Edwards Oteri. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dean “Buddy” Emberton. Ms. Dianne was a member of New Life United Pentecostal Church and worked at Kingston Timers. She is survived by daughters, Deana (Kevin) Jones of Smithville and Darla Emberton of Nashville; grandchildren, James Tramel and Ben Jones; special friends, Sandy Gass and Karla Warrick. Graveside services and interment will be 11:00AM Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Keltonburg Cemetery with Bro. Dwayne Cornelius officiating. There will not be any services or visitation held at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 11:00AM for the Graveside Service. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Jerry Edward Herman

June 8, 2021

Mr. Jerry Edward Herman age 63 of Liberty, passed away Monday June 7, 2021 at his residence in the Pea Ridge Community. He was born March 18, 1958 to his parents, the late Ewin Herman and Josie Anderson Herman Hobbs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 sister, Judy Womack. He was a member of the Mt. Moriah The Baptist Church. Jerry worked for Cumming Signs for 13 years and with the Board of Education as a custodian for over 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Murinna Herman of Liberty; 2 daughters, Leslie (Zane) McKee of Lascassas and Olivia (Matthew) Melton of Auburntown; 6 grandchildren, Allie, Jackson, Brady, Mary Grace, Ava and Ivy; 1 sister, Vicky Murdock of Manchester. Graveside services and interment will be 1 PM Friday, June 10, 2021 at Mt. Moriah Cemetery with Bro. Leonard Herman officiating. There will not be any visitation or services held at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service at 1 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Marlon “MARTY” Dale Harris

June 6, 2021

Memorial services for Marlon “MARTY” Dale Harris, 62 of the Holmes Creek Community of DeKalb County, will be Wednesday, June 9 at 1 PM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Jim Driver will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 AM until service time. Interment will be at Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County at a later date.

Marty died suddenly Friday, June 4, 2021 at his home in the Holmes Creek Community.
He was born April 12, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan to Billy Everett and Lee Oma Carr Harris of Smithville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou Rector Harris on December 19, 2017.

Marty graduated from Centerline, Michigan High School in 1977. He attended Snow Hill Baptist Church.

Marty worked in assembly at General Motors and later at Precision Molding in Sparta.
He enjoyed shooting pool, watching sports on TV, family gatherings and listening to music.
Survivors in addition to his parents, include sister and brother-in-law Jill and James Somerville of Clarksville, nephew Sean Everett Somerville, aunts and uncles Tommie and Jim Driver of Bowling Green, Ky., Jim and Gloria Harris of Ringgold, GA, host of cousins and friends.

James Alford King

Mr. James Alford King age 74 of Dowelltown, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 30, 2021 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital in Smithville. He was born February 7, 1947 to his parents, the late John R. and Myrtle Sanders King. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Tina Phillips and several siblings. James was self-employed tire shop worker and mowed lawns. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bobbie King of Dowelltown; 2 daughters, Patricia Butcher of Dowelltown and Peggy King of Smithville; 5 grandchildren, Joshua Crook, Haley Butcher, James King, Jordan Crook and E.J. Enlow; 6 great-grandchildren, Paisley Crook, Noah Crook, Emma Crook, Addison King, Reanna King and Millie King; 1 sister, Tennie Rigsby of Chattanooga and several friends. The family has chosen a direct cremation and a service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in memory of Mr. King. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
