Sheena Fowler Insco

38 year old Sheena Fowler Insco of Watertown died Saturday in a motorcycle crash. She was a pharmacy tech for the V.A. Hospital in Murfreesboro. The funeral will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Earl Braswell will officiate and burial will follow in the Elrod Cemetery in Sparta. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. She is survived by her parents, Holly and Doris Fowler of Watertown. A sister, Charlotte and Ross Porter of Baxter. A brother, Wendell and Monica Fowler of Carthage. Nephews, Ross Porter of the United States Air Force, and Tyler Foutch and Wesley Fowler both of Carthage. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Milous and Stella Jackson Fowler and Guy and Daisy Young Denson. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to your local animal shelter. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.




Bruce “Big Daddy” Evans

Mr. Theodore Bruce Evans, affectionately known as “Big Daddy” entered this world on November 24, 1948 in Cleveland, Tennessee to the late James B. “Blink” and Arcanna Stewart “Polly” Evans. Mr.

Evans departed this life on the morning of May 18, 2021 at NHC Healthcare of Sparta surrounded by his loving family. He was a member of Oakwood Street Church of Christ. Bruce was an avid sports fan. He has been a Warrior for life, a Tennessee Volunteer fan (through the good and bad years), a devoted Kobe Bryant fan but his overall love was baseball. He played, coached, umpired and was a mentor to hundreds of kids throughout Dekalb and White Counties. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Averl and Angie Evans and Charlotte Buckner.

Big Daddy is survived by daughter Rachel D. Evans and son James (Mickie) Evans. He leaves to cherish his fond memories grandchildren Jala and Jahiem Evans, and Xharia Lyons who lovingly refer to him as Poppa.

Bruce leaves behind nieces and nephews Carol (Glenn) Bonner, Tracy (Mike) Evans, Fatima Evans, Zac Buckner of Cookeville, Chad (Christie) Tubbs and Lyndsay Evans of Sparta. He also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews who will miss him.

He is survived by the mother of his children Annette Tubbs Evans of Smithville. Special cousins Johnnie Johnson and Greg Johnson. Special friends Toby Culley and Tim Dibrell among many. A special thank you to caretaker Melvin James.

Bruce “Big Daddy” Evans will be missed by many, but leaves behind many cherished memories made possible by his big personality and heart. The Evans family wishes to thank all who have kept Bruce in prayers over the last 13 months. In addition, a special thanks to those who have helped Bruce including the NHC of Sparta, Avalon Hospice care, neighbors who brought him food and checked on him, Oakwood Street Church of Christ, Roberts Street Church of Christ and Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta.

A Homegoing Service will take place on Saturday, May 22nd 2021 at 1pm at the Oakwood Street Church of Christ, with visitation with family starting at 11am. Food provided by Street Baby Ent. following the service. In honor of Big Daddy’s wishes, he will be cremated following his funeral and his ashes will be spread at locations that were special to him. Visitors are encouraged to wear their favorite teams apparel to honor Big Daddy’s love of sports.

Evelyn Christine Redmon Gish

Evelyn Christine Redmon Gish age 75 of Monticello, Indiana and a native of Smithville, passed away Thursday afternoon May 20, 2021 at Mountain Meadows Nursing Home in Batesville, AR. She was born October 27, 1945 to her parents, the late Richard Redmon and Lora Mai Flemings Redmon Maggart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Gish; 1 great-grandson, Tyler Bryce Whitworth; 3 sisters, Oleta Thomas, Annie Ruth Bain and Emma Bell Cantrell; 4 brothers, Gentry Brown Redmon, William Monroe Redmon, Howard Winston Redmon and James Thomas Redmon. Ms. Gish was of the Baptist Faith and retired from Kroger. She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 daughters, Frances (Jeff) Haigwood of Pleasant Plains, AR and Patricia Harrison of Cookeville; 1 son, Billy Malone of Alabama; 4 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Maria) Haigwood, Roxann (Cody) Bostic, Daniel (Shelby) Haigwood and Jeffery (Leah) Harrison; 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; 1 brother, Jewel Redmon of Smithville and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside services and interment will be 2 PM Sunday, May 23, 2021 at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. There will not be any visitation or services at the funeral home, family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Nell Hale

May 21, 2021

Ms. Nell Hale, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at her residence in Smithville. Ms. Hale was a Christian and a previous worker at the Shirt Factory.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Landon Hale; parents, Homer and Bonnie Estes; sister, Willett Lawson; brothers, Alvie Lee Estes and Junior Estes.

Visitation with the Hale family will be on Friday, May 21 from 4-8pm and on Saturday, May 22 from 9am until the time of the service at 11. The funeral will be held at Love-Cantrell Chapel with burial to follow in Mt. Arat Cemetery with Bro. Howard Carroll will officiating.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Meredith Hale of Smithville; 2 sisters-in-law, Elsie Miller and Macon Hale both of Smithville; special cousins, Verna Lee Bogle and Peggy Sue Bogle both of Woodbury; 1 Grandson, Treyton of McMinnville.




Jessie Bell Johnson

May 15, 2021

Jessie Bell Johnson age 84 of Smithville, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. She was born February 21, 1937 to her parents, the late Shelia Robert and Julie Mai Williams Shehane. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Leamon Johnson; 6 brothers, Robert, Hoyte, Toy B. Ben, Maxi and Frank Shehane; 7 sisters, Olena Shehane, Willene Saylors, Lura Jean Reeder, Mae Lattimore, Mary Lattimore, Alma Swafford and Frances Bates. Ms. Jessie Bell was a member of the Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church and was a babysitter. She is survived by a son, James Lee Johnson of Smithville and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Bernard Houk and Michael officiating and burial will follow in Banks Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Monday 4 PM until 7 PM and on Tuesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. Due to Covid-19, we ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. Patricia Lee White Parsley

Patricia Lee White Parsley age 81, of Smithville passed away Tuesday May 11, 2021 at NHC of Smithville. She was born February 12, 1940 to her parents, the late Chester Rae and Mary Lou Cantrell White. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Solon Parsley; sister, Sharon Young; nephew, Anthony White, Jr,; step-daughter, Francis Elkins; cousin, Tom Davison. Ms. Patricia was a Presbyterian and a housewife. She is survived by her brother, Anthony M. (Pamela S. ) White of Loveland, Ohio; grandniece, Cassidy; grandnephew, Kieran; cousin, Kevin Davison of Detroit, MI; step-grandchildren, Johnny Whitt, Rodney McGinnis, Mark McGinnis, and Kim & Andera. Funeral services will be Friday May 14, 2021 at 1:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday 11:00AM until the time of the service at 1:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.
