Special “Adopt A Pet” Discounts Available at DeKalb Animal Shelter (View Video Here)

Special “Adopt A Pet” discounts are being offered this week at the DeKalb Animal Shelter.

A Veterans Day Adopt-A-Thon, which began on Friday, November 11, continues through Saturday, November 19 hosted by the DeKalb Animal Shelter and the “Friends Of” organization.

Dog adoptions are $50 each and $30 each for cats and that includes all their vaccinations, micro-chipping, blood work, etc.

With so many little critters, the only problem you may have is which one to choose.

Here’s a suggestion! How about “Sherlock”, the WJLE/DeKalb Animal Shelter featured “Pet of the Week”.

“We call him Sherlock, as in Sherlock Holmes, because he was found on Holmes Creek Road just abandoned all by himself in the middle of the road,” said Shelter Director Emmaly Bennett. “This sweet boy is about five months old. He has been neutered and is up to date on everything. Sherlock has the sweetest personality. He just wants to be in your lap. Sherlock loves kids, other cats, and he loves to play. He is an all around good house cat. If you are interested in adopting him from now until Saturday, November 19 his adoption fee is only $30. Thanks to our Friends Of organization for reducing that fee during our Veteran’s Day Adopt-A-Thon. Sherlock will make a wonderful addition to your home,” said Bennett.

“Visit our website at https://www.dekalbanimalsheltertn.com/ to see Sherlock’s picture, fill out an adoption application and we will call you to come in and meet him,” said Bennett.

The shelter is open Monday-Friday from 8 to 4 and Saturday from 8 to 12 at 186 Transfer Station Road.

Father Charged with Aggravated Assault of his Child

A father has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly trying to choke his young son.

38-year-old Dusten Ryan O’Conner of Allen Bend Road, Smithville is under a $30,000 bond and he will be in court December 1.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on October 30 the child reported to staff at school that his father, O’Conner had choked him the night before until he passed out. O’Conner was interviewed and confirmed that he had strangled his son and that the child went limp. The incident was also witnessed by the child’s mother.

When a detective spoke with the child he noted and photographed a mark on the boy’s neck which appeared to be where a fingernail could have dug into his throat.
