DCHS Tiger basketball player Tanner Poss Joins the 1,000 point club

DCHS Tiger basketball player Tanner Poss has joined the 1,000 point club.

The senior was honored between games Thursday night for scoring 1,000 points in his high school career. Poss actually achieved that milestone last season as a junior at Macon County on February 8, 2018 but he was not formally recognized at that time.

Poss was sidelined for part of this season due to an injury. He has been back on the court for the last few weeks.

During a team pre-game meal prior to Thursday night’s games, Poss was presented a cake in honor of his athletic accomplishments.




Tigers and Ladies Complete Season Sweep of Smith County

The DCHS basketball teams have completed a regular season sweep of the Smith County Owls and Owlettes.

The DC Lady Tigers knocked off the visitors from Carthage 58 to 34 while the Tigers notched their fifth win of the season beating the Owls 46 to 42 Thursday night in Smithville. In the earlier meetings on January 15 at Carthage, the Lady Tigers won 67 to 62 in overtime and the Tigers beat the Owls 78 to 51.

In the girls game Thursday night, DC led 15 to 11 after the 1st period, 37 to 22 at halftime, and 43 to 29 after the 3rd period before going on to win 58 to 34.

Lydia Brown scored 14, Joni Robinson 13, Emme Colwell 12, Kadee Ferrell 11, Mya Ruch 5, Kenzie France 2, and Mallori Hart 1.

In the boys game, the Tigers led 12 to 7 after the 1st period, 26 to 13 at halftime, and 31 to 28 after the 3rd period before winning 46 to 42.

Colter Norris scored 11, Dallas Cook 8, Hayden Thomas 7, Lucas Hale 6, Dakota White 5, Tanner Poss 4, Evan Jones 3, and Nathan Atkins 2.

The Lady Tigers improve to 18-8 on the season and conclude the district race with a record of 10-4 finishing in 3rd place. The Tigers are now 5-21 on the year and conclude the district season 4-10 in 7th place.

DCHS will host Monterey tonight (Friday, February 8) on Senior Night to wrap up the regular season. The district tournament starts next week at Cookeville High School and Tennessee Tech. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.




DCHS Teams Can’t Derail Macon County

The DCHS Lady Tigers have been unable to derail two teams in the district this season, league leading Upperman and Macon County, the second place team.

Macon County came calling Tuesday night and knocked off the homestanding Lady Tigers 63 to 32. In the earlier meeting on January 11 at Lafayette, DC lost 61 to 36. In the boys game Tuesday night the visiting Tigers from Lafayette got even with the black and gold cagers winning 54 to 45. DeKalb County had beaten Macon County on January 11 at Lafayette 61 to 49.

In the girls game, Macon County led 15 to 9 after the 1st period, 24 to 11 at halftime, and 42 to 18 after the 3rd period before winning 63 to 32.

Kadee Ferrell scored 15, Mya Ruch 9, Mallori Hart 4, and Lydia Brown and Joni Robinson each with 2.

For the boys, DeKalb County led 20 to 11 after the 1st period, 32 to 22 at halftime, and 40 to 38 after the 3rd period but were outscored in the 4th period and lost 54 to 45

Nathan Atkins scored 22, Dallas Cook 8, Tanner Poss 7, and Colter Norris, Evan Jones, and Lucas Hale each with 2 points.

The Lady Tigers slip to 17-8 overall and 9-4 in the district while the Tigers fall to 4-21 and 3-10 in the district.

Bees Sting Tigers and Lady Tigers

For the second time this season, the DCHS Tigers and Lady Tigers have been unable to prevent being stung by the Upperman Bees.

The Lady Tigers lost to the district leading Lady Bees 62 to 40 while the Tigers took a 64 to 36 beating at Baxter Friday night.

In the girls game, Upperman led 15 to 12 after the 1st period, 33 to 17 at halftime, and 45 to 23 after the 3rd period before going on to defeat DC 62 to 40.

Emme Colwell scored 12, Kadee Ferrell 9, Mya Ruch 5, Mallori Hart and Lydia Brown each with 4, and Maddison Parsley and Joni Robinson each with 3.

For the boys, Upperman led 14 to 7 after the 1st period, 30 to 11 at halftime, 45 to 22 after the 3rd period and went on to beat the Tigers 64 to 36.

Lucas Hale scored 8, Tanner Poss and Evan Jones each with 6, Dallas Cook 5, Hayden Thomas 4, Nathan Atkins, Luke Jenkins, and Rylan Rhea each with 2, and Brayden Antoniak with 1.

The Lady Tigers slip to 17-7 overall and 9-3 in the district while the Tigers fall to 4-20 and 3-9 in the district.

Lady Tigers Take Down Cannon County, Tigers Lose to Lions

The DeKalb County Lady Tigers took down the Lionettes of Cannon County Monday night in Smithville winning 66 to 55 but the Tigers lost to the Lions 53 to 47.

The Lady Tigers improve to 17-6 overall and have secured at least a 3rd place finish in the district currently with a 9-2 record and three district games left before the tournament. The Tigers drop to 4-19 and 3-8 in district play.

In the girls game, DC led 16 to 11 after the 1st period, 31 to 23 at halftime, and 51 to 38 after the 3rd period before notching the 66 to 55 victory.

Kadee Ferrell scored 24, Lydia Brown 18, Emme Colwell 13, Mya Ruch 7, and Maddison Parsley and Kenzie France each with 2.

In the boys game, the Tigers led 15 to 12 after the 1st period but fell behind 30 to 20 by halftime. The Lions led 39 to 32 after the 3rd period and went on to defeat the Tigers 53 to 47.
