Mike Billings

May 11, 2018

49 year old Mike Billings of the Johnson Chapel Community of DeKalb County passed away Thursday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the Johnson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and a retired Detective of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Jackie Miller and Bernard Houk will officiate and burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 9 p.m.; Sunday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.; and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Edith Cantrell and Ray and Clara Billings. Survivors include his parents, R.V. and Brenda Billings of DeKalb County. Aunt, Phyllis Cantrell Malone. Special aunts, Janice Cantrell and Deborah Cantrell Luna of DeKalb County, Frances Billings of Warren County, and Alma Billings of DeKalb County and an uncle, Claude Billings of DeKalb County. Jerry Douglas Ashford

Jerry Douglas Ashford age 67 of Smithville passed away Saturday May 5, 2018 at St. Thomas West in Nashville. He was born August 4, 1950 to the late John and Maggie Johnson Ashford. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, James Ashford, Owen Ashford, and Wayne Ashford. Mr. Ashford was a farmer and affiliated with the Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dianne Ashford of Smithville; 2 children, Jeff (Melodie) Ashford of McMinnville, and Debbie (Mark) Delaney of Alabama; 4 grandchildren, Dalton Ashford, Bailey Ashford, Addison Delaney, and Patience Delaney; 2 sisters, Mildred Murphy of Smithville and Freda (Burnell) Maxwell of Grundy County. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Ashford will be held 2 PM Monday May 7, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Leonard Herman and Jonathan Puckett officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday 1 PM until 8 PM and on Monday 10 AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Kenneth Hall

Mr. Kenneth Harrison Hall age 60 of Smithville passed away Sunday May 6, 2018 at NHC of Smithville. He was born November 14, 1957 to his mother, Ruby Nell Hall. Mr. Hall served in the United States Army, and he worked as a maintenance engineer at TRW. He is survived by his children, Joseph (April) Hall of Smithville and Stephanie (Scott) Whitson of Joelton; grandchildren, Isaac, Elijah, Malachi, Hannah and Abram; mother, Ruby Nell Hall of Smithville. Funeral services for Mr. Hall will be 1:PM Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday 4:PM until 8:PM and on Tuesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1:PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements




James Houston Braswell

May 3, 2018

80 year old James Houston Braswell of Smithville passed away Tuesday at his home. He was disabled. Braswell was preceded in death by his parents, George Houston Braswell and Hattie Velma Fisher Braswell. Survivors include two step-children, Charlie and Berna Barnes of McMinnville and special friend Bobby Brymer of Smithville. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family has chosen direct cremation. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.




Peter Heelam

May 3, 2018

76 year old Peter Heelam of Smithville passed away Sunday at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. He was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ and a retired Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer III. A memorial service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Smithville Church of Christ. Dan Gulley will officiate. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eleanor Wilson Heelam and step-daughter Christina Carol Adams. Survivors include his wife Gail Heelam of Smithville, formerly of Nashville. Daughters, Kim Heelam Cook and David of Brentwood, Angela Heelam Keller and Michael of Pennsylvania, and step-daughter Michelle Fiori of New Jersey. Grandchildren, Shaun and Michael Cook of Brentwood, Alaina McCormick and Jamie Clark and step-grandchildren Trent and Kendra Fiori of New Jersey. Six great grandchildren also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.




Frank Tramel (Junior) Bryant

April 29, 2018

89 year old Frank Tramel (Junior) Bryant passed away Saturday at NHC in Smithville. He was a retired assembly worker at Genesco in Nashville and a farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was affiliated with the Short Mountain Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Thomas and Dora Beatrice Tramel Bryant, and one sister, Billie O’Fallon Byford. Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maggie Lorane Morrison Bryant; one sister, Mary Knowles; special nieces and caregivers, Linda Crook and Eden Nokes; special nephew and caregiver, James Crook; Several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. In addition to flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Bryant’s memory to the Short Mountain Church of God.
