Lawrence David Brock age 69 of Lascassas went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019. He was born October 24, 1949 to his parents, the late Grant and Stella Dodd Brock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 sister, Virgie Waller and 2 brothers, Wayne Branson and Thomas Ray Brock. Lawrence was a Railroad worker and a member of The Pentecostals of Murfreesboro. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 48 years, Janice Walters Brock of Lascassas; 3 daughters, Shannon (Rev. Christopher) Barnes of Walter Hill, Danielle (Rev. Randell) Smitty of Watertown and Kimberly (Damien) Rednour of Lascassas; 7 grandchildren, Fellecia (Jon) Sherwood, Austin Barnes, Bianca Smitty, Jaxson Smitty, Alaya-Kate Smitty, Adelynn Rednour and Brantley Rednour; 6 great-grandchildren, Adrien Sherwood, Jeremiah Sherwood, Nevaeh Sherwood, Kinsley Sherwood, Savannah Barnes, Hannah Barnes; 1 brother, Luther Brock of Scottsville, KY; 2 sisters, Molly Swift of North Manchester, IN and Peggy Brown of Woodbury. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Thursday, April 25, 2019 at The Pentecostals of Murfreesboro with Rev. Kevin Allen officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 11 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM on Thursday at The Pentecostals of Murfreesboro. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Capital Stewardship at The Pentecostal of Murfreesboro, in memory of Mr. Brock. 82 year old Maurella Frances Davenport of Smithville passed away Wednesday at her residence. She was a retired waitress and a member of the First Assembly of God. The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Iain Swisher will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service at 3 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Syble Bishop; husband, Lloyd Davenport; daughter, Kathryn Bentley; son, Keith Kidd; and a grandson, Bradley Kelly. Survivors include three children, Linda Knowles and Alvin Kidd of Smithville and Syble and Michael Tucker of Detroit. Eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and thirteen great great grandchildren. A brother, Floyd and Nancy Montie of Michigan and a sister, Gloria and Ron Tayek of Iowa. 64 year old Terry Wayne Owens of Smithville passed away Tuesday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was a mechanic with the DeKalb County Garage. The family has chosen direct cremation. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Owens. Survivors include two children, Tyrone Owens and Michael Chad and Stephanie Owens; parents, James Calvin Owens and Peggy Ann Martin Owens; five grandchildren, Tevin Owens, Chelsi Hollingsworth, Tyra and Tanisha Owens, and Arraya Taylor all of Smithville. Fiance Kathy Richards of Smithville. Three step-children, Jayden, Aiden and Raedyn of Smithville.Two nephews, Andre Owens of Smithville and Darry Owens of Knoxville. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ramsey; sons, Ricky (Eunice) Ramsey of Alexandria & Charles Keith (April) Ramsey of Goodlettsville; daughters, Brenda (Kennie) George of Mt. Juliet & Pam (Jamey) Cashman of Franklin, brother, Jimmy (Judy) Ramsey of Gassaway; sisters, Jessie (Doyle) Christian of Woodbury & Jean (Curtis) George of Woodbury; grandchildren, Amber (Ryan) Hall, Mathew George, Adam (Lairen) Warden, Tracy (Tad) Webb, Andrea Ladd, Blakely Allmon, & Trey Cioccia; 16 great-grandchildren. Charles was a veteran of the Korean War, retired from Dupont and a faithful member of Old Hickory Church of Christ. He loved his family, church, fishing, camping, Gatlinburg & the mountains. Visitation will be at Phillips-Robinson Hadley Chapel, 1700 Hadley Ave. on Wed. April 24 from 3pm-8pm. The service will be at Old Hickory Church of Christ, 1001 Hadley Ave. on Thurs. April 25 at 11am with 1 hour of visitation prior. Brother Don Loftis Officiating. Interment immediately following at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Family & friends will serve as pallbearers. 50 year old George “Junebug” Roller, Jr. of Smithville passed away Friday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was a Baptist and a nurseryman. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Morris Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Anna Morris Rigsby. Survivors include his wife, Mary Atnip Roller of Smithville. Two children, George Roller, III and Abbey of Smithville and Molly Lawrence of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Aiden Lawrence, Ava Grace Roller, and Kase Bryson Roller all of Smithville. Father, George “Bo” and Mary Shirley Roller of McMinnville. A brother, Victor “Hopper” Roller and Annette of Smithville. A sister, Lynna Brittain and David of Shelbyville. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, and friends also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. James Glenn (Jim) Hicks, Jr.

Funeral services for James Glenn (Jim) Hicks, Jr. 79, of Cookeville will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ with Buddy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Jim died Saturday after a brief illness.
He was born November 19, 1939 in Knoxville to the late Marie Williams and James Glenn Hicks.
Jim was a proud graduate and lifelong supporter of Tennessee Tech University. He was also a graduate of the LSU Graduate School of Banking and the School of the Tennessee Bankers Association, presently known as the Southeastern School of Banking.
Jim was a well-respected banker in Cookeville for 49 years. His genuine interest in his customers and dedication to service led to many cherished friendships. He began his banking career on the square at the old First National Bank. From there, he started American Bank and Trust which later became First American, then AmSouth Bank and currently Regions Financial. Later, he started Community Bank of the Cumberlands, which became SouthEast Bank where he retired as Senior Vice President and member of the Board of Directors.
Jim’s devotion and service to Tennessee Tech is unrivaled. He was a long-time member of the President’s Club and was a Chapter Advisor of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served on several TTU job search committees, including the search for the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. His service to the university was diverse and included the College of Arts and Sciences Board of Visitors, the Foundation for the Humanities Board of Directors, the Fine Arts Foundation Board of Directors, and the University Christian Center Advisory Board.
Jim was committed to the College of Business Administration Foundation, serving as President, Vice President, and Secretary of the Board of Trustees. He chaired several committees, including the Executive, Nominating, Fundraising, Finance, Selection, and served on the Scholarship Committee. Jim received the Louis Johnson Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2004. He was a supporter of the Tommy Lynn Executive Suite, in honor of his professional mentor. While at American Bank and Trust, he helped to arrange for the bank to support two annual scholarships for the College of Business.
Jim’s service continued in the community he loved. He was a Charter Member and President of the Cookeville Breakfast Rotary Club and the Cookeville Jaycees, Chair of the Putnam County Red Cross, March of Dimes, and the Cookeville/Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. He served as Treasurer of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors and Putnam County Friends of the Library. He was a 1996 graduate of Leadership Putnam and served on the Board of Trustees. Jim supported the Special Olympics, Boys and Girls States, Odyssey of the Mind, and various community and school sports teams. He served on the Advisory Board of Foster Grandparents, the Chance Project Council and the Upper Cumberland Friends of Scouting.
In honor of his commitment to scouting, Jim recently received the 2019 Good Scout Award at the Friends of Scouting Annual Luncheon.
Jim was a devout Christian who lived his life in service to others, serving as a long-time deacon at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ.
Jim’s family was his greatest pride and joy. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Evon Turner Hicks; son and daughter-in-law, Lee Turner and Katherine Borzcik Hicks and three grandchildren, Turner Beth, Trey Derrick, and Theodore Riley Hicks all of San Francisco, California, a sister, Joyce Hicks (Bob) Gaskins of Beaumont, Texas. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, James Glenn Hicks III (Trey).
Serving as pallbearers will be Fred Burton, David Draper, Ken Draper, Roger Johnson, Dr. Tom Lawrence, Thomas Lynn, Lane Moore, Bruce Plummer, Dan Rader, Daniel Rader IV, Jim Smith, Gary Strong, Dr. Jim Vaden, and Don Wolber. All bank employees that worked with Jim over the years will be honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and Tuesday from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ.
