Ruth Huff Guerrant

Ruth Huff Guerrant age 58 of Nashville, passed away Sunday in Nashville. She was born February 22, 1960 to her parents, the late Sam and Lenora Hatfield McCoy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Lewis; 2 brothers, James and Daniel McCoy. She was a telemarketer and a member of the Church of Christ. Ruth is survived by 2 sons, Joseph Huff Ray and Johnny Huff Ray both of Smithville; grandsons, Braxton Linder and Christopher Lewis, Jr.; husband, David Guerrant of Nashville; companion, Jerry; 4 sisters, MaryAnn Paxton of Princeton, WV, Brenda Collier of Cleveland, Ohio, Pauline Dotson of Ransom, KY and Maxine Huddleston of Cleveland, Ohio; 2 brothers, Samuel McCoy and David McCoy both of Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Monday, November 19, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Visitation with the family will be on Monday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel in in charge of the arrangements.




Donnie Pearl Rhoton Cardona

82 year old Donnie Pearl Rhoton Cardona of Smithville passed away Wednesday at her daughter’s residence in Murfreesboro. She was a Baptist and a production factory worker. The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Earl Langley will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from noon until the service at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Green and Effie Jane Dunn Rhoton; husband Carl Cardona; daughter, Tammy Puckett Garner; and two brothers, William Rhoton and Verble J. Rhoton. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Steve Addington of Murfreesboro. Four grandchildren, Shayne and Kevin Pitts of Knoxville, Chris and Kelly Close of Murfreesboro, Callie Garner of Murfreesboro, and Jenna Garner of Murfreesboro. Two sisters, Melba and Bro. Earl Langley of Hermitage and Geneva Hickey of Sparta. Sister-in-law, Edna Rhoton of Sparta. Four great grandchildren, Leah Pitts and Madeline Pitts of Knoxville, Aaron Close, and Hannah Close of Murfreesboro. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Cardona to the Alzheimer’s Association.




Marjorie Spencer Terrell

Marjorie Spencer Terrell, age 84 of Hermitage, passed away Thursday evening November 8, 2018.  Margie was born in Smithville, Tennessee, November 6, 1934, to the late Dewey and Ocie Curtis Spencer.  She was preceded in death by one brother, J.D. Spencer.  Margie retired from Dozier Equipment Company as an Executive Assistant with over 30 years service.  She was a faithful Christian and member of First Baptist Church Mt. Juliet. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, she was loved by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 65 years, Ernest Ray Terrell; children, Shain Terrell (Clint) Dennison and Michael (Donna) Terrell; grandchildren, Nathaniel Dennison and Lauren Terrell; great-granddaughter, Luca, sister, Montie Estes of Smithville and nieces and nephews.  A private graveside service was held at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Bro. Billy Friel officiating.  The public memorial service celebrating Margie’s vibrant life will be will be held Saturday, November 17, at 11:00 am at The Hermitage church, 4580 Rachel’s Lane (continue straight on Rachel’s Lane and follow signs to the church).  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to In-Touch Ministries in memory of Margie Terrell by calling 1-800-789-1473 or by mail at P.O. Edna Locke Hooper

Edna Locke Hooper age 73 of Smithville, passed away Sunday morning November 11, 2018 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.  She was born November 20, 1944 to her parents, the late Harvey Lee and Mary Magdalene Redman Emberton.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 husbands, Wayne Locke and Hoyte Hooper; grandson, Nicholas Locke, 2 sisters, Betty Williams and Nancy Harris.  She was a faithful and active member of the Smithville Church of God, self-employed store operator and retired from Shiroki.  She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 sons, Darrel (Tina) Locke and Mark (Mitzi) Locke both of Rock Island; 6 grandchildren, Brandon Locke, Bradley (Caitlin) Locke, Hillary Locke, Eli Locke, Tyler Fields and Thomas Fields; great-grandson, Nicholas Locke; 2 brothers, Jimmy Emberton of McMinnville and Ronnie Emberton of McMinnville; 1 sister, Tanya Emberton of Rock Island.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday November 14, 2018 at the Smithville Church of God with Bro. Chris Moore officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday  1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 p.m.  All visitation will be held at the Smithville Church of God.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Eula Bennett Cripps

Eula Bennett Cripps age 99 of Lancaster, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 11, 2018.  She was born February 15, 1919 to her parents, the late Jack and Lassie Fish Bennett.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Cripps; son, Kenneth Cripps; 2 daughters -in-law, 2 great-great-grandchildren; 6 sisters and 4 brothers.  Ms. Eula was a member of the Harvest Time Church, shirt factory worker and homemaker.  Her love and passion was her family, she was affectionately known as “Granny”, not only by her grandchildren, but by many who knew and loved her.  She leaves to cherish her memory, 1 daughter, Marie Cripps of Temperance Hall; 1 son, Jerry Cripps of Alexandria; 3 grandchildren, Kent (Darcie) Cripps, David ( Deborah) Cripps and Lisa Cripps all of Alexandria; 6 great-grandchildren, Daniel Cripps, Kevin (Liz) Cripps, Ashley (Caleb) Roth, Tyler (Jessica) Cripps, Amanda (Mark) McAfee and Nicholas (Christian) Underhill; 7 great-great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Levi and Anna Cripps, Elizabeth Ezra and Evelyn Roth and Josee Cripps; 1 sister, Gladys Williams of Hickman.  Funeral services will be conducted  3 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Wendell Judkins, David Cripps and Kent Cripps officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday 12 Noon until 8 p.m. and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 3 p.m.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




June McBride

November 12, 2018

83 year old June McBride of Smithville passed away Sunday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Union Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Garry McBride, Keith Sims, and Bransford England will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest McBride; parents, Roscoe and Bertie Harmon; daughter, Eugenia McBride; a brother, Albert Harmon; a sister, Janice Jennings; and her step mother, Ollie Mae Harmon. Survivors include two children, David McBride of Smithville and Michael and Lisa McBride of Smithville. Five grandchildren, Danielle and Anthony Carr of Smithville, Aaron and Amy McBride of Smithville, Matthew and Jennifer McBride of Sparta, Sarah McBride of Smithville, and Caleb McBride of Hillsboro. Eight grandchildren, Hannah McBride, Avery Carr, Elijah Carr, Brittany Mabe, Billy Carpenter, Kylie Willard, Isaac Willard, and Audrey Colwell. Two great great grandchildren, Karson Mabe and Karter Mabe. Sister-in-law, Evelyn Clayton of Smithville. Special caregiver, Sherry Brannon of Smithville.
