David Caldwell

David Caldwell age 70 of Smithville, passed away Friday morning, January 21, 2022 at his residence. He was born May 6, 1951 to his parents, the late L.D. and Cloie Gay Caldwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 sister, Rebecca “Beck” Ritchie and 3 brothers, Wallace Caldwell, Larry Caldwell and Bobby Gay. He was a Methodist and worked in retail sales in food stores for years. He was known for his smile, friendliness and willingness to help customers in the stores. David leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 40 years, Rita Caldwell of Smithville; 2 sisters, Libby (Larry) Gibbs of Smithville and Freda (Gene) Lumby of Pierre, SD; 3 sisters-in-law, Carolyn Caldwell, Jane Gay and Teresa Stanley all of Smithville; brother-in-law, Steve Ritchie of Smithville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 PM Tuesday January 25, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Dwayne Cornelius and Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday 12:Noon until 7 PM and Tuesday 9:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and No food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Hazel Dean Thweatt Reagh

Hazel Dean Thweatt Reagh age 85 of DeKalb County, Jefferson Community, died peacefully and serenely on Thursday. January 20th, 2022 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Reagh, her parents Jess and Jimmie West Thweatt, and by siblings Charlotte, Leonard, Wayne and Cathy. She was a homemaker. Her survivors include sister, Joan Ellen Thweatt Tyler of Holly Springs, Mississippi: daughter, Doris Lee Reagh Faust of Memphis, TN: son, Kenneth Dean Reagh of Jefferson: grandson, Charles Bryan Cunningham of Memphis: great-granddaughter, Harper Faith Cunningham of Memphis: several nieces, nephews and cousins. Hazel had a big heart and often exhibited acts of love, kindness and caring. She could not say no to an animal in need and took great joy in feeding and caring for abandoned cats, birds and a pig. She enjoyed the earth, nature and gardening and expressed her faith and spirituality and love of God through her love of the beauty of nature. She loved her family and friends, loved to read and cook and was always there for her husband, children and family. |The family has honored her request to be cremated and services will be held at a later date, which will be announced. Hallie Mai Agee

January 20, 2022

Ms. Hallie Mai Agee age 96 of Dowelltown, TN passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at her residence.

Ms. Hallie was born on August 20, 1925 in Smithville, TN to her parents, the late Herbert & Jo Anner Mullican Tramel. Also preceding her in death is her husband, Floyd Agee, brother & sister, W.J. Tramel & Beulah Joins. She was a retired shirt factory worker & was a member of Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 1pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Kenneth Tramel will officiate and burial will follow at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, from 3pm – 8pm and Friday, from 10am until the service time at 1pm.

Survivors include her Daughter, Glenda (Clifford) Randolph of Dowelltown, TN. 2 Grandchildren, Breanna (Chris) Hawkins of Lebanon, TN & Cody (Amelia) Randolph of Smithville, TN. 6 Grandchildren, Clay, Clent & Cora Hawkins & Dawson, Corbin & McCoy Randolph.

In addition to flowers, donations can be made to the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church in memory of Ms. Hallie.

Helen Loretta Hawker Malone

January 20, 2022

Mrs. Helen Loretta Hawker Malone, age 78 of Alexandria, TN, and a longtime resident of the Hannah’s Branch community went to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, January 19, 2022.

She was a kind, God fearing woman who loved the Lord and loved her family and always wanted the best for them. She was a lifetime member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church and played piano for the choir for many years. Words cannot be expressed how greatly she will be missed.

Mrs. Malone was born September 19, 1943 in the Hannah’s Branch community of Dekalb County, TN, a daughter of the late Charles Bratten Hawker and Louise Oakley Hawker. She married Robert Don Malone on January 2, 1960 and he preceded her in death on November 25, 2010. She was also preceded in death by Brother; Danny Hawker.

She is survived by two sons; Ricky Donald Malone and his wife, Terry of Liberty, TN, and David Lynn Malone and his wife Genia of Gordonsville, TN. Four grandchildren; Benjamin Tyler (Kayla) Malone of Chestnut Mound, TN, John Weston (Casey) Malone of Baxter, TN, Anna Bess Malone (Trevor) Glover of Alexandria, TN, and Carey Lynn Malone of Gordonsville, TN. Four great-grandchildren; Caleb Oakley Malone, Jackson Everett Malone, Luke Easton Malone, and Harrison Wayne Glover. Brother; Larry Oakley Hawker and his wife, Elaine of Lebanon, TN. Sister-in-Law; Jimmie (David) Carter of Alexandria, TN.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Malone are scheduled to be conducted from the Avant Funeral Home on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 12 noon with Gary Glover officiating. Interment will follow in the Pisgah Church Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be at the Avant Funeral Home on Friday from 12PM until 8PM and on Saturday from 10AM until service time at 12 noon.

The family requests memorials be made to the Pisgah Church Cemetery Fund.




Francis Elaine (Adcock) Nunley

January 13, 2022

Frances Elaine Adcock Nunley age 74 passed away Wednesday January 12, 2022 at her residence. She was born August 3, 1947 to her parents the late Richard Lee and Dolly Frances Pollard Adcock. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Orvil Goodwin and Homer Nunley; brothers, Billy Ray Adcock and Lee Royce Adcock. Ms. Nunley was a member of New Union The Baptist Church and worked in Heathcare. She is survived by children, Orvil (Shannon) Goodwin of Rock Island, Roy Lee (Anna) Goodwin of Smithville, Susie (Jeff) Thomason of Smithville, Debra (Justin) Hill of Smithville, and Corey (Michelle) Goodwin of Sparta; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; brother Charles (Lucy) Adcock of McMinnville. Funeral services will be 10:AM Saturday, January 15, 2022 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 4:PM till 7:PM and Saturday 9:AM until the time of the service at 10:AM. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Ms. Nunley. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Chizuko Fukui Howard

Chizuko Fukui Howard, widow of the late Haskel Elby Howard, U.S. Navy Retired age 88 of Smithville passed away on Monday evening, January 10, 2022 at her residence. She was born March 2, 1933 in Amagasaki, Japan to her parents, the late Masazo and Kikue Fukui. Chizuko was married March 1, 1962 to Haskel Elby Howard, U.S. Navy Retired at the American Embassy in Kobe, Japan. She moved to the United States in 1962 and became an American citizen on June 16, 1975. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Kenji Howard and a brother, Ryuichi (Keiko) Fukui. She is survived by 2 children, Riki (Gina) Howard of Hendersonville; Michiko (Tim) Martin of Smithville; daughter-in-law, Kelli Howard Davis of Batavia, Ohio; 7 grandchildren, Raleigh (Angela) Howard, Allison Howard and fiancé Thomas Alexander, Kenleigh Howard, Slater Howard, Hayley Martin, Raiden Martin and Madeline Martin; 1 great-grandson, Miles Howard; sister, Masako (Yukio) Nakanishi of Japan; nieces and nephews, Yuki Fukui, Miho Fukui (Hideyuki) Okumura, Eri Fukui, Yuichiro (Yayoi) Nakanishi, Masao Nakanishi. Noriko Nakanishi (Akira) Nakano; several great-nieces, nephews, cousins and other family in Japan. Ms. Howard’s request was to be cremated. There will be no public services. Family will gather at a later date for a private service at the Howard Family Cemetery in White County. In her words, “To all my friends and neighbors, no flowers please. If you wish to honor me, donate to either the High School Library, Justin Potter Library for a book about the history of the United States of America, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, American Cancer Society, Disabled American Veterans, Alzheimer’s Association or to your favorite charity.” Donations may be made to any of these by calling or coming by the funeral home or directly to any of these organizations.
