Man Wanted in Wisconsin Arrested Locally

A man wanted in Wisconsin has been picked up in DeKalb County.

21 year old Brandon Joe Evans-Ortiz of Temperance Hall Road, Liberty is charged with being a fugitive from justice. His bond is $100,000.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on November 4 a deputy arrested Ortiz for being a fugitive from justice due to him having outstanding warrants against him in Wisconsin.

31 year old Michael Joseph Lee of Estes Street, Smithville is charged with two counts of failure to appear and evading arrest. His bond is $10,000 on the evading charge but he is being held without bond for the failure to appear offenses. Lee will make court appearances on the charges December 2 & 7.

Sheriff Ray said that on November 2 as a deputy was attempting to serve him with two capias bench warrants, Lee escaped through a rear window of the residence and failed to heed to the officer’s verbal commands to stop. After a short foot pursuit Lee surrendered and was taken into custody.

62 year old Charles Eugene Adcock of Obie Adcock Road, Smithville is charged with domestic assault. His bond is $3,500 and he will make a court appearance December 2.

Sheriff Ray said that on November 3 a deputy spoke with a woman who said that on the night before, November 2 she and her husband, Adcock got in an argument at their home and that he struck her in the face several times with a television remote resulting in visible marks on her face and hands.

Dekalb Middle School recently hosted their PTO fundraiser. Students sold tickets and classrooms created baskets to be auctioned at the event. During this event, parents and students could shop at the Scholastic book fair or challenge a friend in a game of cornhole. Inflatables were available for children to play as parents were enjoying a variety of homemade soups and chilis donated by parents of the DMS students.. The DMS students and faculty raised over $4000.00 for the school’s various projects and for the End of School Year celebration.

Unemployment rates dropped in a majority of counties across Tennessee in September, according to the latest data released by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD).

Eighty-eight of the state’s 95 counties experienced lower unemployment during the month. Rates increased in six counties in September and remained the same in one county.

DeKalb County’s jobless rate was at 4% for September, down from 4.5% in August and below the 7.2% rate in September 2020.

The local labor force for September 2021 was 7,563. A total of 7,261 were employed and 302 were without work.

The unemployment rates in 87 counties stand at less than 5%, while the rates are greater than 5%, but less than 10%, in the remaining eight counties.

Williamson and Moore counties had the lowest percentage of unemployed residents for the month, each with a September rate of 2.3%. That was a 0.3 of a percentage point decrease from the August rate for Williamson County and a 0.4 of a percentage point drop for Moore County.

Perry County had the highest unemployment rate for the month at 8.4%, which was a 1.9 percentage point increase from its August rate of 6.5%. Maury County had the state’s second-highest rate in September. Unemployment in the county grew by 1.5 percentage points to 6.1%.

Tennessee’s statewide unemployment rate dropped for the fourth consecutive month in September, decreasing from 4.6% in August to 4.4%.

Unemployment across the country also ticked down in September. Nationally, the jobless rate dropped by 0.4 of a percentage point to 4.8%.

Unlike the statewide and national unemployment rates, county unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted to factor in seasonal economic influences such as school breaks and severe weather conditions.
