OU welcomes newly admitted graduate students

The University of Oklahoma Graduate College is proud to welcome Mr. Nathan Colwell to the list of admitted masters and doctoral students for the Fall 2022.

Colwell is the son of Mingy (and Johnny) Ball and Stuart (and Tiffany) Colwell.

“We are excited to join you on this journey to become an independent scholar,” said Graduate College Dean Randall Hewes. “You will gain the unique tools at the university to make important and original contributions to your field.”

The Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is a
competitive program, admitting 19 of 78 doctoral chemistry and biochemistry applicants for the Fall 2022 semester. The program offers professional training with cutting-edge faculty in advanced core facilities and research centers.

“The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is dedicated to offering superior advanced training to individuals who are interested in pushing the boundaries of human knowledge about the natural world,” said interim departmental chair Robert Cichewicz. “Through research-based learning experiences, our students find employment in industrial, academic, and government sectors as leaders in chemical and biochemical sciences.”

The Graduate College supports 11 colleges on the Norman campus and offers more than 120 graduate programs. The college guides, supports, and enhances the educational experience of every OU graduate student

A man who led Smithville Police on a pursuit last September before crashing his vehicle has been indicted by the DeKalb County Grand Jury for aggravated statutory rape and evading arrest.

26-year-old Tyler Shawn Fowler was among more than 40 people named in indictments (including five sealed indictments) returned by the new term of the grand jury Monday, March 28. Fowler and all the other indicted defendants will appear for arraignment in DeKalb County Criminal Court on Monday, April 4.

The Fowler story unfolded on Friday, September 10, 2021 at around 3:15 p.m. on Meadowbrook Drive as Fowler tried to outrun Smithville Police. When the officer initiated his lights and sirens, Fowler began to increase his speed and refused to stop. After about a 15 minute chase, Fowler ran the vehicle he was driving into a ditch and began to flee on foot. The Tennessee Highway Patrol was later summoned to help search the woods using a K-9. At the time officers thought Fowler might be armed. He was not. Trooper Bobby Johnson, Trooper Andrew Coppinger, and THP K-9 officer Adam Cothron and his dog Draco arrived on the scene.

“We responded to Tabernacle Road due to a man who had fled on foot into the woods and was possibly armed. He was wanted for aggravated kidnapping. They requested our K-9 assistance. The K-9 came from Trousdale County and upon arrival he began to track. After a couple of minutes he located the suspect in some brush. Fowler wouldn’t comply with commands to get on the ground or get his hands up so the K-9 was deployed and drug him out from the brush. Fowler was then checked out by DeKalb EMS and taken into custody,” said Trooper Johnson.

Tyler was wanted for the aggravated statutory rape of a 15 year old. The indictment alleges that Fowler unlawfully and intentionally or knowingly sexually penetrated the teen between the dates of April and September 2021.

The indictment for evading alleges that on September 10, 2021 Fowler, while operating a motor vehicle, fled or attempted to elude a law enforcement officer, Detective James Cornelius, after having received a signal from the officer to bring the vehicle to a stop.

Jason Bradley Cripps- tampering with evidence and simple possession of a schedule III drug

David Eugene Driver- violation of an order of protection (2 counts)

Aaron Wade Fisher- possession of drug paraphernalia

Tyler Shawn Fowler- aggravated statutory rape and evading arrest

Steven Levan Gandy- aggravated assault

Mario Castandeda Garcia-driving under the influence (3rd offense)

David Edward George-driving under the influence and DUI per se

Jere Raymond Green- possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule II drug
(methamphetamine) over 0.5 grams, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, evading, and possession of drug paraphernalia

Ronald Barbosa Gutierrez- driving under the influence (2nd offense), DUI per se, possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule VI drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, and public intoxication

Nicholas Miles Herlong-burglary and vandalism over $1,000

Robert G. Judkins-aggravated assault (4 counts), violation of bond conditions, and coercion of a witness

Molly Sue Lawrence- possession of intent to sell or deliver a schedule II drug (Cocaine) in an amount under 0.5 grams, possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule I drug (Acetylfentanyl), possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule II drug (Fentanyl), and possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule II drug (Methamphetamine) under 0.5 grams

Jeremy Ray Likens- possession with intent to sell or deliver over 26 grams of a schedule II drug (Methamphetamine) 2 counts, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with evidence

Raymond Marcelle Marks- driving under the influence (4th offense), possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule II drug (Fentanyl)

Taylor Nicole Marshall-driving under the influence, DUI per se, and resisting arrest

Jermaine Derperise McCoy- introduction of contraband into the jail (4 counts), driving under the influence and violation of the implied consent law

DeKalb Middle School took a victory over visiting Watertown Middle Friday at Smithville
Golf Course on a cold and windy afternoon.

The boys team, once again swept all matches. Competing were Jamison Troncoso, Abram Koegler, Cooper Goodwin, Bradley Hale and Carson Palmer. Goodwin took medalist honors with a 32 for the six holes in very challenging conditions. Lee Tramel, Turner Bryant and Lance Duke also played exhibition matches.

For the girls, Emily Anderson and Chloe Boyd defeated the Watertown pair by 3 strokes.
