Tigers Ground the Jets, Lady Tigers Suffer Setback

The DeKalb County Tigers added another win to their season district record Friday night in Smithville with a 62 to 48 victory over the visiting Cumberland County Jets but the Lady Tigers suffered a setback with a 77 to 30 loss in the girls game.

The Tigers are now 10-8 overall and 2-3 in the district as the Lady Tigers slip to 10-9 with a district record of 2-3. The Cumberland County boys are 3-16, 1-4 and the Lady Jets are 14-5, 3-2.

Next week DeKalb County plays at Upperman on Tuesday, January 17 and will host Stone Memorial on Friday, January 20. WJLE will have LIVE coverage each night.

In the girls game Friday night, Cumberland County opened up an 18-10 lead after the 1st period and doubled up the Lady Tigers 44 to 22 by halftime. The Lady Jets led 67 to 23 after the 3rd period and went onto win 77 to 30.

Avery Agee led in scoring with 13 followed by Ella VanVranken 7, Camryn Branin 4, Chloe VanVranken 3, Ella Hendrixson 2 and Tess Barton 1.

The Tigers trailed the Jets 17 to 8 after the 1st period of the boys game and found themselves down 25 to 21 by halftime and 38 to 37 after the 3rd period. The Tigers rallied in the 4th period outscoring the Jets 25 to 10 and won 62 to 48.

Connor Close and Elishah Ramos tied for high scoring honors with 19 each followed by Robert Wheeler 14, Stetson Agee 7, Alex Antoniak 2 and Ean Jones with 1.

County Mayor Announces Bid Opening Date for Various Projects

DeKalb County Mayor Matt Adcock has announced that bid openings will be January 26th at 12pm noon during the County Commission Purchasing Committee meeting

Bids projects are as follows:

*Bid Opening for fencing project at the convenience site located at the intersection of Allen Ferry road and Hwy 56. Bidders are encouraged to go to the convenience site to examine the need. Bid specifications can be found at the County Mayor’s office. Bids must be turned in before the 12pm purchasing committee meeting on the 26th day of January 2023.

*Bid opening for playground construction at the Belk Community Center. Bidders are encouraged to examine the playground located at 483 Wright Bend Rd Smithville Tn 37166 next to the Belk Community Center. Bid specifications can be found at the County Mayor’s Office. Bids must be turned in before the 12pm purchasing committee meeting on the 26th day of January 2023.

*Bid opening for building repair. Bidders are encouraged to visit the UCHRA office at the county complex located at 726 S Congress Blvd, Smithville, TN 37166. Bid specifications can be found at the County Mayor’s Office. Bids must be turned in before the 12pm purchasing committee meeting on the 26th day of January 2023.

*Bid opening for a digital sign at the County Complex/Farmers Market. Bidders are encouraged to visit the county complex at 712 S Congress Blvd Smithville Tn 37166 to examine the sign out front in the parking lot. Bid specifications can be found at the County Mayor’s Office. Bids must be turned in before the 12pm purchasing committee meeting on the 26th day of January 2023.




Local students earn degrees from Tennessee Tech

Tennessee Technological University has announced students earning degrees in the university’s fall commencement ceremonies, which includes the following students from DeKalb County:

Connor B Adcock, Olivia Grace Cook, Haden G Cripps, Sophie R Cripps, Elizabeth G Guinn, John D Maynard, Madison F Mick, Anthony T Mullins, William S Pursell, Blake A Richardson, and Derek J Young.
