Police Find Woman with Meth and Brass Knuckles

An investigation of a suspicious vehicle last month led to the arrest of a woman for possession of methamphetamine and a weapon (brass knuckles).

39 year old Angela Marie Farley of Robinson Road is under a $3,500 bond and she will make a court appearance on April 25.

According to Smithville Police, an officer spotted an automobile enter the Mapco parking lot on March 23 and when it started to leave the vehicle backed up and then pulled to the diesel fuel pump where it set for a long period of time which seemed suspicious. The officer approached the vehicle to investigate and spoke with the driver, Farley. He discovered that she had an illegal weapon, a pair of brass knuckles, hanging from the mirror. After receiving consent to search Farley’s vehicle, the officer found 0.07 grams of a crystal substance in her purse that field tested positive for methamphetamine. A computer check through central dispatch revealed that Farley’s license were suspended in 2015 for failure to pay fines in a previous violation.

She was charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver and cited for carrying a prohibited weapon and a driver license violation.

44 year old Randall Tittle of 1105 Earl Avenue and 38 year old Christie Dawn Bouldin of Silverpoint were arrested on March 26 for possession of a counterfeit controlled substance. Tittle was also charged with driving on a suspended license. While on routine patrol an officer observed Tittle operating a vehicle. Knowing that Tittle’s license were suspended the officer pulled him over for a traffic violation. Due to Tittle’s history of drug possession the officer asked for and received consent to search Tittle’s vehicle where he found 0.8 grams of a crystal-like substance in a phone case above the driver’s sun visor.  When asked about the substance found, Tittle and his passenger, Bouldin replied that it was salt. Police later learned that Tittle had given Bouldin $25.00 to buy methamphetamine. She then purchased what she thought was meth from a residence on Highland Street but when she returned to the vehicle, Bouldin realized that it was actually salt instead of methamphetamine. Bond for Tittle is $9,500. Bouldin’s bond is $3,500. Both will appear in court April 11.

25 year old Dalton Grady Moore of 1420 Poss Road was arrested on March 21 for resisting/stop/halt/frisk. While speaking with someone in the parking lot of Wal-Mart, an officer noticed a man come out of the store and then quickly turn and walk back inside when he saw police. The man later came back out of the store with a hood over his head apparently trying to conceal his identity. The officer approached the man and asked him to place his hands on the patrol car. The man then turned and ran into the woods behind some nearby houses. After reviewing video from a surveillance camera inside the store, the officer was able to identify the man as Dalton Moore. He was later located and taken into custody without further incident. Moore’s bond is $3,500 and his court date is April 11.

33 year old Amanda Kay Lattimore of Leonda Hill Road was cited on March 20 for possession of drug paraphernalia. During a traffic stop an officer received consent to search the vehicle. Lattimore was a passenger. He asked Lattimore her if she had anything illegal on her person. Lattimore then produced a hypodermic needle which she had hidden in her shoe. Lattimore’s court date is April 11.

53 year old Riley A. Bullard of 157 Kings Court Circle was arrested on March 18 for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Police were called due to a complaint of a suspicious man walking in the roadway on South Mountain Street. An officer spotted the man, Bullard and stopped to check on him. As the officer tried to get Bullard to the sidewalk for his safety, he started cussing and yelling at the officer and indicated he might harm himself. When an effort was made to get some help for Bullard, he became more irritated and tried to assault the officer. During his arrest, Bullard refused to cooperate with the officer and would not place his hands behind his back nor would ne comply with orders given to him.  The officer then took Bullard to the ground and placed him into custody without further incident. Bullard’s bond is $6,500 and his court date is April 11.

42 year old Jimmy Lane Estes of 630 Highland Street was arrested on March 27 for violation of a protection order. While on routine patrol an officer spotted Estes at the 630 Highland Street address. Knowing that Estes is under an active order of protection that restricts him from being on the property, the officer stopped to investigate. Estes, who was on the back porch, was taken into custody. His bond is $25,000 and he will make a court appearance on April 25.

44 year old Lynn Jay Jones of 315 Redmon Road was arrested on March 24 for aggravated criminal trespass. Police responded to a call of an unwanted guest and the homeowner informed the officer that the intruder, Jones, who was still inside the residence had opened an unlocked door and entered without permission. The homeowner ordered the intruder to leave but he refused. Jones was taken into custody. His bond is $4,500 and he will make a court appearance on April 25.

A man accused of kidnapping and torturing his wife last summer was indicted by the DeKalb County Grand Jury Monday.

38 year old Erik Thomas Dunn will be arraigned next Monday, April 8 after being indicted for especially aggravated kidnapping and four counts of aggravated assault.

Dunn is accused of tying up and assaulting his wife and then forcing her to stay in a closet at their home over a ten day period last July.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on July 10 through July 20, 2018 Dunn confined his wife unlawfully as to interfere substantially with her liberty by zip tying her hands and throat and confining her to a closet.

According to the Sheriff, Dunn assaulted his wife with deadly weapons including zip ties, a knife, arrow, and wooden closet rod causing bodily injury. Dunn placed a zip tie around his wife’s throat to choke her which caused the woman to pass out. He used a knife to cut her left arm; an arrow  to injure her foot; and he hit her several times with a wooden closet rod.

Dunn was under bond conditions at the time due to a previous aggravated and domestic assault case against him over this woman.

The Smithville Police Department has a new police officer.

Lane Ball, a recent graduate of Walter State Community College, was hired by the aldermen during Monday night’s monthly meeting at the recommendation of Police Chief Mark Collins.

“We have been a man down for quite some time. I think he will be a great asset to the police department,” said Chief Collins.

After the meeting, Officer Lane took his oath from City Attorney Vester Parsley.

In other business the aldermen voted to fill seasonal positions already budgeted including the hiring of Hoyte Barrett as a mower in the street department along with Jerry Walker, Royce Odom, and Patricia Walker for security at Greenbrook Park. Two part time positions already budgeted for the golf course have not yet been filled and lifeguards for the pool are still being recruited.

“We don’t know how many (lifeguards) we will have yet. We are still recruiting. Some (lifeguards from last year) who are already certified want to come back this year,” said City Administrator Hunter Hendrixson.

The city is adding a new seasonal part time employee, R.J. Bain, primarily to help two others with the mowing chores at the parks. Bain previously worked for 10 years with the city in a full time role. Although his position will now be seasonal and part time at no more than 29 hours a week it is still new city spending and Alderman Brandon Cox questioned the need for the position saying the city got by without it last year. Cox was the lone no vote on the hiring.
