DeKalb Firefighter Graduates from Training Academy

Peyton Taylor of the DeKalb County Fire Department graduated from the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Training Academy’s Live Burn Firefighter I class held Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6.

Captain Brian Williams said this 16-hour course requires students to demonstrate skills needed to extinguish a passenger vehicle fire attack, exterior Class A fire attack, interior structure fire attack, commercial buildings and ground cover fire attack.

“We are extremely proud of this recent graduate. Today, our department stands better prepared to respond to emergencies because of the high standards for training we set for our firefighters,” said Captain Williams.




DCHS Basketball Teams Resume Play Friday Night, December 11 Hosting Watertown

After being sidelined for almost two weeks due to cases of COVID-19 in both programs, the DeKalb County High School basketball teams are set to resume their season schedule Friday night, December 11 hosting Watertown.

The girl’s game tips off at 6 p.m. followed by the boys game.

Saturday, January 2 the DCHS teams will head to Jamestown to face York Institute. The original schedule had DCHS playing at York on Friday, December 4 but those games were postponed to December 12 and now to January 2.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers were scheduled to play at Grundy County on Saturday, November 28 and at home against Sequatchie County, Monday November 30. Those games were also postponed and no makeup dates have yet been announced.

DCHS was further scheduled to play at Livingston Academy tonight (Tuesday, December 8) but those games have been re-scheduled for Friday, December 18 at Livingston.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers were to compete in the Sonic Shootout at Sparta December 17-19 but have withdrawn as they continue to rework their schedules.




Tennessee Men’s Basketball Season Opens Tonight (Tuesday) Against Colorado

The Tennessee men’s basketball team tips off its 111th basketball season with a Tuesday night clash (tonight, December 8) against Colorado. The opening jump is slated for 5 p.m. central time. The pre-game show starts at 4:30 p.m. on WJLE and the VOL Network.

Fans can listen live on WJLE to hear Bob Kesling and Bert Bertlekamp describing the action.

Tuesday’s tip will be the Vols first game in 276 days and UT’s first matchup with Colorado since 1981. Tennessee leads the all-time series with the Buffaloes, 2-0, dating to 1980.

A win would give the Orange & White a 31-3 record in home openers inside Thompson-Boling and head man Rick Barnes an 18-1 record in his last 19 season lid lifters.

Up next, Tennessee will remain at home for a Saturday contest with Cincinnati. Tipoff inside Thompson-Boling Arena is set for 11:30 a.m central time with the pre-game show at 11:00 a.m. on the VOL Network.
