Mrs. Amy Curtis Johnson, age 88, of Alexandria, TN, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021.

Mrs. Johnson was born September 7, 1932 in Alexandria, TN, a daughter of the late Jim Curtis and Sarah Ann Neal Curtis. She married Ollie Samuel Johnson and he preceded her in death on August 23, 1988. Mrs. Johnson was also preceded in death by Siblings; Johnnie Hall Curtis, Mary Cason, Gladys Driver, Jimmy Curtis, Matt Malone, Ralph Curtis, and Gracie Henley. She worked at the Alexandria Shirt Factory and later for Norvell. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Lower Helton The Baptist Church.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by Daughters; Ann (Ricky) Taylor of Dowelltown, TN, Janice (Gaylon) Williams of Hickman, TN, and Gail (David) Thompson of Byron, GA. Brother; Roy Dale (Linda) Curtis of Watertown, TN. Four grandchildren; Jason (Marie) Taylor, Aaron (Paula) Taylor, Jesse Thompson, and Amy Thompson. Four great-grandchildren; Kristen (John) Nolen, Reagan Taylor, Peyton Taylor, and Caleb Taylor. Three great-great grandchildren; Crew Nolen, Bo Nolen, and Cove Nolen.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Johnson are scheduled to be conducted from the Avant Funeral Home on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 3PM with Bro. Dennis Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillview Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be at the Avant Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4PM until 8PM and on Thursday after 12PM until service time at 3PM.

Elmus “Tot” Greston Cantrell age 91 of Smithville passed away at NHC of Smithville January 27, 2021. He was born August 15, 1929 to his parents, the late John Lee and Ona Young Cantrell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, J W, Morgan, Thaniel, Jewell, Doyce, John, Lewis, and Prentice Cantrell; sisters, Carmine Poss, Nona Mai Glenn, Nell Fly and Janice Martin; son-in-law, Alan Bradford. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Cantrell was a member of Mt. View The Baptist Church, worked in factories and was a farmer. He is survived and deeply loved and cherished by his wife of 68 years, Gladys Fuson Cantrell of Smithille; daughters, Phyllis Hallum of Smithville and Suzanne (Bill) Gash of Smithville; grandchildren, Jeremy Hallum, Stephanie Crabtree, Mandy (Paul) Talley, Cory Bradford, Jordan (Erika) Gash and Rachel (Kieran) Russell; great-grandchildren, Wesley Hallum, Conner Crabtree, Trey Crabtree, Peyton Hallum, Hudson Talley, Owen Talley, and Torryn Gash; sisters, Joan Harrelson of Lebanon, and Hilda (Floyd) Corley of Tullahoma; brother McClure (Pam) Cantrell of Smithville; brother-in-law, Joe Fly of Hendersonville; sisters-in-law, Nell Cantrell of McMinnville, Wilma Jean Cantrell of Smithville, Frances Cantrell of Gallatin; Special friend and caregiver Betty Davis; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Funeral Services will be Friday, January 29, 2021 at 3:PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with James Gibbs and Bill Gash officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday 4:PM until 8:PM and on Friday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 3:PM. Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, we ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. The pews in the chapel are marked to respect these guidelines and allow 100 to 125 for the service. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. The family ask in addition to flowers donations may be made to Mt. Mitchell Ray Robinson passed away on Sunday, January 24. He was 47 years old, born in Lebanon, Tennessee, on March 27,1972. He was preceded in death by Grandparents Paul and Evelyn Curtis, Jesse and Ruby Robinson, Father Ray Dean Robinson, Aunt Kaye Curtis Sellars Hearn, and Uncle’s Jerry Sellars and Travis Hearn. He is survived by his Mother and Step Father Faye and William Wooldridge, Fiancée Kayla Hughes, Brother Rick (Christy) Robinson, Nieces Kendra (Todd) Austin and Erica (Scott) Key, Great Nieces and Nephews Allie Kate Austin, Avery Austin, Tate Austin, Addison Key, Noah Key, Aunt and Uncle Margie and Doug Jennings, Cousins Jan (Andy) Clayborne, Allen (Becky) Jennings, Kristy (James) Corley, Randy (Tammy) Jennings, Angie (Alan) Elkins, Anita (Chip) Jackson, Kim Sellars, many second and third cousins, and his beloved Dog Bella. Mitch, was a graduate of Watertown High School, and spent much of his work life as an entrepreneur, and owner of pressure washing businesses. He was a huge UT Fan, loved trucks, cars, fast driving, watersports, and dogs, especially Mastiff’s. A true Mama’s Boy through and through! He enjoyed spending time with his love and Fiancée Kayla and their Mastiff Bella. There will be no service. Mitchell Ray Robinson will be cremated, and his ashes will be kept with his dear Mother Faye. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to final expenses at Anderson Funeral Home 302 East Main St. Alexandria Tn 37012. Effie L. “Susie” Vandergriff age 81 of Smithville passed away Monday January 25, 2021 at her residence. She was born December 9, 1939 to her parents, the late Julius and Vennie M. Coldwell Reeder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey “Buddy” Bogle, daughter, Kathy Sue Thomas and 13 Brothers and Sisters. She was a farmer and a Baptist. Ms. Susie is survived by 1 daughter, Treva Hartman of Smithville; 2 grandchildren, Willie Murphy and Crystal McCorkel; 6 great-grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Wyatt Young, Ayla Donatto, Katelyn Nokes, Christopher Rue and Timothy Rue; 1 sister, Sally Tims of Cookeville; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 1PM Thursday, January 28, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in Hale Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 4PM until 7PM and Thursday 10AM until the time of the service at 1PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Patricia Love Spence, age 76, DeKalb County native and Cookeville resident, died Saturday evening, January 23, 2021, at her home. She was born September 21, 1944, to the late Robert Taylor and Dorothy Foutch Love in DeKalb County. No services are planned.

Pat was a paralegal who worked for many years in the office of Cookeville office of Attorney David Day and other law offices of Putnam Country. She enjoyed traveling to the Blue Ridge Mountains, to Gulf Shores and to many casinos with her late husband, James “Buddy” Spence. They also shared a passion for the Tennessee Vols. She was an excellent cook and avid baker. She enjoyed watching daily episodes of “Price Is Right”. She was devoted to her family and loved doting on her grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters Kim Ashburn of Smithville, Rhonda Spence Curley of Dover, DE, Sara (Joe) Williams of Charlotte, NC, and son Dr. Tim Ashburn of Chickamauga, GA, grandchildren Hope Ashburn “Commander Taylor Hesse”, Paige Ashburn “Ben Garrett”, Jeremy “Trista” Ashburn, Taylor “Jessica” Ashburn, Anna Grace Ashburn, Justin Curley, Corey Curley and Kristin (Brian) Collison, Amber (Jeremiah) Keisling, Elizabeth Spence, Jaime Spence, Emily Spence, Spencer Williams, Chloe Williams, 17 great grandchildren, brother Wayne “Ann” Love of Murfreesboro and sister Janie Love of Putnam County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, James “Buddy” Spence.

95 year old Clarance “Joe” Webb of the Jefferson Community of DeKalb County passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Webb was born January 30, 1925 in Smithville, TN. He was an army veteran in WWII who served in both France and Germany, a farmer, a retired road grader for DeKalb County, and a member of Jefferson Community Church.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be at Jefferson Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8pm and on Thursday from 10am until the time of service at 1pm. Due to Covid 19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed, and the family has requested that mask be worn. We are also not accepting food in the kitchen at this time.

He was preceded in death by his parents-Charlie and Martha Ann Jones Webb; wife: Martha Louise Webb; sisters-Lillie “Jack” Thweatt and Josie Pack; Brother: Aaron Webb; and grandchildren: Gabriel Craig, Denny Mark, Nicky & James Turner

Survivors include 3 Daughters, Bobby Scott of McMinnville, Robbie and husband Albert Lynn of Viola, and Janice Strange of Smithville. 1 Son, Kelvin & wife Teresa Turner of Kansas. 4 Grandchildren, Bobby and Lou Shawna Scott of McMinnville, Daniel and Lisa Hallon of Viola, Larkin Turner of Kansas, and Joshua Craig of Smithville; Several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

In addition to flowers, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charity in memory of Mr. Webb.
