Joyce E. Tallent

Joyce E. Tallent age 75 of Smithville passed away Friday morning April 16, 2021 at NHC of Smithville. She was born December 25, 1945 to her parents, the late Melvin and Cecil Trapp Billings. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Lynn Tallent. Mrs. Tallent was a member of Mt. Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church and she was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Leonard Tallent of Smithville; 2 sons: Marty Tallent of Smithville, and Ronald (Andrea) Tallent of McMinnville; grandchildren: Brandon Tallent, Martelia Tallent, Alex and Aaron Tallent; uncles: R. V. (Brenda) Billings and Claude Billings of Johnson’s Chapel. Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday April 18, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Earl Langley and Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 3:00PM till 7:00PM and on Sunday 11:00AM until the time of the service at 2:00PM. Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, we ask for the health and the safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. The pews in the Chapel are marked off to respect these guidelines and allow 100-125 people for the service. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and NO food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. The family of Mrs. Tallent would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff of NHC for the love and care given to Joyce. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Reba Lonell Atnip

April 15, 2021

Ms. Reba Lonell Atnip, age 83 of Smithville, TN passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at NHC Healthcare of Smithville.

Ms. Atnip was born on November 4, 1937 in Cookeville, TN to her parents, the late Laddie & Mertie Bohanan Anderson. Also preceding her in death is her Husband, Roscoe Atnip. 2 Sons, Randy Atnip & Eddie Atnip. 3 Brothers, Fowler , MJ & Gene Atnip. 2 Sisters, Lucille Gilreath & Christine Anderson. She was a retired factory worker and a member of the Peoples Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 1pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Taylor Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, from 1pm-8pm, Friday, 10am-8pm & Saturday, 10am until the service time at 1pm. We are not accepting food in the funeral home kitchen at this time.

Survivors include 4 Daughters, Lou Dean Murphy, Rose Atnip & Mary Roller all of Smithville, TN & Rachel Atnip (Aaron Ponder) of Dowelltown, TN. 6 Sons, R.J. (Suzi) Atnip of Murfreesboro, TN, Jerry (Betty) Atnip, Ricky (Ally) Atnip, Teddy (Lori) Atnip, Freddy (Vickey) Atnip, Michael (Amy) Atnip all of Smithville, TN. 1 Sister, Rozell Bohanon of Nashville, TN. 23 Grandchildren & Several Great Grandchildren & Great Great Grandchildren also survive.

Shirley Jean Blackford

April 15, 2021

Ms. Shirley Jean Blackford, age 68 of Smithville, TN passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

Ms. Blackford was born on April 20, 1952 in Texas to her parents, the late Bobby & Betty Morgan Upchurch. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 1pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Blackford Family Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, from 4pm – 8pm and on Sunday, from 11am until the service time at 1pm. We are not accepting food in our kitchen facility at this time.

Survivors include the Father of her Children, Dennis Blackford of Smithville, TN. 3 Children, Wendy Blackford, Barbara Cool & Bobby (Nichole) Blackford all of Smithville, TN. 6 Grandchildren- Brandon Kircher, Christian Hendrixson, Gavin Cool, Isabella Blackford & Everleigh Blackford.

Gregory Allen “Little Greg” Mayo, II

April 13, 2021

Gregory Allen “Little Greg” Mayo, II age 31 of Smithville, passed away Saturday April 10, 2021 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. He was born November 1, 1989 in Smithville. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eva Redmon, Willard Young, Dave, Jr. and Joyce Mayo. Little Greg was disabled and had worked at Evins Mill, was a 2007 graduate of DeKalb County High School and he was raised up attending the House of Prayer. Survivors include his mother and step-father, Darla and Todd Guess; father, Big Greg Mayo. son, Damien Lykins Mayo; sister, Christina Mayo; favorite nephew, Aiden Guess; nephews, Shawn, Jr and Cain Buck; niece, Shawna Buck; step-brother, Nick (Ashley) Guess all of Smithville; step-sister, Stephany (Kevin) Richards of Henderson, KY; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; friends, Samantha Sam, Nick Ambrose, Ethan Cantrell; best friends, Kenny Smith, Caroline Asher, Ashley Mayo and Little Michael Mayo. To honor Little Greg’s request his mother is having him cremated and a memorial service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Shirley Ann Fisher Tramel

Shirley Ann Fisher Tramel, of Smithville was taken to her heavenly home on April 12, 2021 at the age of 80. Shirley was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Shirley was born on January 7, 1941 in Smithville, TN to her parents, the late Luke and Ovlean Hendrixson Fisher. She was a member of the Smithville Church of God and was retired from Federal Mogul as a Machine Operator.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 Children, Lee Alton and Deberalyn Reeder; 1 Grandson, Wesley Reeder; 2 Brothers, Luther Wayne Fisher and David Fisher; 2 Sisters, Maggie Crim and Linda Cantrell.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Paul Tramel of Smithville; 3 children, Marl Ann and Jim Reynolds of Smithville, Peggy and Phillip Hendrix of Smithville; Joe Reeder and Andrew Altieri of Old Hickory; 5 grandchildren, Christopher and Jeri Reeder of Washington, Christie and Steve Hess of Lebanon, Latasha and Chris Colwell of Smithville, Ross Hendrix of Smithville, and Tyler Reynolds of Lebanon; 8 great-grandchildren, Parker Wilson, Eli Colwell, Landon Hendrix, Emily Colwell, Bentlee Colwell, Owen Reeder, Audrey Reeder, and Benton Reeder; 1 brother, Walter Ray Fisher of McMinnville; 1 sister, Barbara Grissom of Rock Island.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 1pm at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Chris Moore will officiate with burial following at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday from 12Noon until 7pm and on Wednesday from 11am until the service time at 1pm. We are not accepting food in the funeral home kitchen at this time.

Jesse Paul Martin

April 10, 2021

Jesse Paul Martin, infant son of his parents, Tommy & Priscilla Dyer Martin of Woodbury, TN was born & died on April 6, 2021 at Erlanger Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at 2pm at Gunter-Grizzle Cemetery. Bro. Greg Mitchell will officiate. There will be no visitation held at the funeral home. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery just prior to the time of services at 2pm.

He was preceded in death an Uncle, Paul Martin & a Cousin, Paislee Cripps.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a Brother, Zach Martin of Woodbury, TN. Maternal Grandparents, Larry & Shirley Dyer of Smithville, TN. Paternal Grandparents, Larie & Carol Zellman of Smithville, TN. Aunt & Uncle, Jessica & Tyler Cripps of Alexandria, TN. Cousins, Josee & Tucker Cripps both of Alexandria, TN. Several Aunts, Uncles & Cousins also survive.
