Valletta Arlene Reed

Valletta Arlene Reed age 92, of Smithville passed away Sunday August 15, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born September 28, 1928 to her parents, the late Arnold and Jessie Reichardt Keene. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Lora Henshaw and Dorris Avona. Ms. Reed was a member of the Smithville Assembly of God and worked as a Caregiver at the Nursing Home. She is survived by 9 children, Teresa Mustain of Missouri, Terry Lee Reed of Pahokee, FL, Larry Reed and Darrell Reed both of Okachobee, FL, Anna Reed of Canal Point, FL, Terrell Lynn Reed of Kentucky, Elizabeth Hillis of Hillsboro,TN, Vickie Dyal of Smithville, and Junior Reed of Michigan; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday August 18, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Burnes Lyons and Bro. Tony Roberts officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 2:00PM. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




William Childers

August 16, 2021

Mr. William Childers age 87 of the Belk Community of Smithville, TN passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Quality Care Health Center in Lebanon, TN.

Mr. Childers was born on January 5, 1934 in Franklin County, KY to his parents, the late Acy & Vessie Beaty Childers. Also preceding him in death is his Wife, Lorena Wright Childers. 9 Brothers & Sisters. Brother-in-law & Sister-in-law, Buel & Evelyn Wright. Mr. Childers was retired from Magnatech & was a Farmer. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith and a member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church in Alabama. Mr. Childers served his country in the United States Army.

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 1pm at New Union Cemetery. There will be no visitation held at the funeral home. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery just prior to the 1pm Graveside Service.

Survivors include a Son, Shane (Cindy) Childers. 2 Grandsons, Joshua Childers & Ryan Childers. Great Grandson, Travis Childers. 3 Brothers-in-law, Mark (Hilda) Wright, Bobby (Marie) Wright & Joe (Patricia) Wright. Host of Nieces & Nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Outreach Baptist Church or to the Coordinated School Health Backpack Program in memory of Mr. Childers.

Lash R. Rice

August 15, 2021

Mr. Lash R. Rice, age 71 of Smithville, TN passed away Saturday morning, August 14, 2021 at his home.

Mr. Lash was born on October 22, 1949 in Barbourville, KY to his parents, the late William & Greenie Smith Rice. He was retired from Smithville Food Center & had been a minister since 1983 having pastored the Keltonburg Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at 4pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Tom Hafstad & Bro. David Dodd will officiate with burial to follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens.Visitation with the family will be on Sunday from 1pm until the service time at 4pm.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Kathy Hafstad Rice. 2 Sons, Scott (Alice) Rice & Jason (Alisa) Rice, all of Smithville, TN. 5 Grandchildren, Megan & Joshua Rice, Jordan Zurcher, Ivy & Kelsa Rice all of Smithville, TN. 2 Great Grandchildren, Brandon & Eva June Buchanan of Beth Page, TN. Special friends for over 50 years, Tom & Claudia Hafstad of Smithville, TN. Several Cousins also survive.

Kay Page Cannon

Ms. Kay Page Cannon, age 81 of Smithville, TN passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville, TN.

Mrs. Cannon was born on January 13, 1940 in Nashville, TN to her parents, the late Stanley & Johnnie Bell Page Cannon. She had retired after working 30 years with Walmart.

Ms. Cannons wishes were that she be cremated. No services are planned at this time.

Survivors include a Daughter, Cindie (Timothy) Delozier of Lebanon, TN & 2 Sons, Michael Kincaid of Texas & Kerry Kincaid of Nashville, TN. Grandchildren, Nichole Sasser, Aaron Franz, Kaylynn Delozier, Amber Kincaid, Anna Kincaid, Stephanie Kincaid & Hunter Kincaid.

Linda Faye Wooldridge

August 14, 2021

74 year old Linda Faye Wooldridge of Alexandria died Thursday at Ascension Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. A private family funeral will be held. Ronnie Smith will officiate and burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. There will be no visitation. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Evelyn Curtis; sister, Kaye Curtis Sellars Hearn; and a son, Mitchell Ray Robinson and her previous husband, Ray Dean Robinson. Survivors include her husband William Wooldridge. A son, Ricky and wife Christy Robinson. Granddaughters, Kendra and husband Todd Austin and Erica and husband Scott Key. Great-grandchildren, Allie Kate, Avery and Tate Austin, and Addison and Noah Key. Nieces, Kim Sellars and Angie and husband Alan Elkins and Anita and husband Chip Jackson. Great nieces and nephews, Josh and Abby Elkins and Shelby and Cole Jackson. Many other beloved nieces and nephews in the Robinson and Curtis families also loved her deeply. Emma Jean Dudney

August 11, 2021

Emma Jean Dudney age 84 of Smithville passed away Wednesday morning, August 11, 2021 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was born March 16, 1937 to her parents, the late Troy Edward and Mary Alice Danner Wilmoth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Dudney. Emma Jean had a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and a Master’s degree in Education. She taught Home Demonstration, having taught at Center Hill Academy and DeKalb Middle School. She worked at the UT Extension Service in Morgan and DeKalb Counties. Mrs. Dudney was the owner of Grandandies Kids Shop for many years. She served as the craft director of the Smithville Fiddler’s Jamboree and Craft’s Festival for many years and was a member of the DeKalb County Retired Teachers, F.C.E. Club, Study Club, Red Hat Society and the Smithville Church of Christ. Emma Jean was a woman that loved God, family and her community and was faithful to them all. She leaves to cherish her memory, twin daughters, Janet (Brian) England of Smithville and Susan (Brian) Berry of Cookeville; four grandchildren, Laura (Brandon) Ross of Lawton, OK, Brandon (Sara) Shaw of Baxter, Ethan (Rachel) Shaw of Baxter, Dylan Shaw of Silver Point; three great-grandchildren, Carson and Adah Shaw and Charles Ross; cousin, Bruce Bilbrey of Dale Hollow. Funeral services will be conducted 11:AM Saturday, August 14, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dan Gulley officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Saturday 9:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM. In addition to flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Fund, in memory of Mrs. Emma Jean. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
