Tigers Punch Their Ticket to State Play-Offs

The DeKalb County Tigers grounded the Cumberland County Jets 42-0 Friday night in Smithville and will advance to the State Play-Offs next week.

With the win on Senior Night the Tigers conclude the regular season at 3-7 and 1-3 in Region 3 Class 4A finishing in 4th place.  The Tigers’ opponent in the 1st round of the play-offs will be Maplewood, the 1st place team from Region 4.

The Tigers scored their first touchdown of the game with 6:25 left in the 1st period on a 4 yard run by Desmond Nokes, capping a 64 yard drive. Andrew Fuson tacked on the extra point and DeKalb County led 7-0.

The next score came with 55 seconds left in the 1st period on a 15 yard touchdown run by David Bradford, completing a 62 yard drive. Fuson added the extra point and the Tigers led 14-0.

Bradford scored on a 23 yard touchdown run with 2:54 left in the 2nd period capping a 99 yard drive. Fuson booted the extra point and DeKalb County led 21-0.

The Tigers tried to extend their lead before halftime but a 41 yard field goal attempt by Fuson was no good.

Tre Ladet scored on a 1 yard touchdown run with 6:33 left in the 3rd period. Fuson’s extra point was good and DeKalb County led 28-0.

After recovering a Cumberland County fumble on a kick-off at the Jets 34 yard line, the Tigers mounted another scoring drive. Ladet took it in from 7 yards out with 4:45 left in the 3rd period and Fuson’s extra point gave the Tigers a 35-0 lead.

With 1:37 left in the 4th period Grayson Redmon caught a 12 yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Axel Aldino. Fuson added the extra point and the Tigers won 42-0.




Tigers Fall Short at Macon County (VIEW VIDEOS HERE)

The window of opportunity for the DeKalb County Tigers to make the state play-offs narrowed with a 20-17 loss at Macon County Friday night at Lafayette.

After an open date next week, the 2-7 Tigers will host the 1-7 Cumberland County Jets in Smithville in the regular season finale on Friday, October 26. A win for the Tigers would put them in the play-offs as the 4th place team in this region.

In the game Friday night, Macon County got on the scoreboard first with 27 seconds left in the 1st period on a 30 yard field goal by kicker Ryan Underwood.

DeKalb County’s Andrew Fuson tied the game on a 33 yard field goal with 5:17 left in the 2nd period.

Macon County took the lead again with 37 seconds before halftime on an 8 yard touchdown pass from John Mark Gammons to Landon Whitmore. Underwood added the PAT and the score was 10-3.

A Hail Mary pass from Axel Aldino to Grayson Redmon on the last play of the half for a would be tying touchdown was wiped off due to an illegal procedure penalty and Macon County held its 10-3 lead through half time.

DeKalb County had an opportunity to draw closer in the 3rd period on a 44 yard field goal attempt by Andrew Fuson but the kick was no good.

The DC Tigers scored their first touchdown of the game on a 1 yard plunge by Quarterback Axel Aldino with 7:58 left in the game. Fuson booted the extra point and the game was tied at 10-10.

Macon County jumped back out front 13-10 with 5:02 left on a 30 yard field goal by Ryan Underwood and later stretched the lead on a 5 yard touchdown pass from John Mark Gammons to Chris Oliver. The PAT by Underwood was good and Macon County led 20-10.

DeKalb County’s last touchdown of the night came on a 9 yard pass from Aldino to Grayson Redmon . Fuson added the extra point but the DC Tigers came up short losing 20-17




Saints Win Conference Title

The DeKalb Saints have claimed the Championship of the Middle Tennessee Football Conference after beating Fentress County 14-8 at Jamestown Saturday night.

Colby Barnes scored both touchdowns in the game and was credited with a safety for the Saints

The Saints completed an undefeated season at 8-0.

Named to the All-Conference Team were Colby Barnes, Josh May, Bryan Portillo, Ean Jones, Tyler Estes, Andrew Vickers, John Ellis, and Gabe Hollingsworth

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Smithville Police Department, and Smithville Volunteer Fire Department are escorting the team bus into town tonight (Saturday). Fans are urged to come out and greet them upon their arrival at approximately 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.




Owls Outscore Tigers 47-34

The DCHS Tigers dropped their sixth game of the season Friday night with a 47 to 34 loss at Smith County.

DC is now 2-6 on the year while the Owls improve to 2-5.

Smith County got its first touchdown of the game on a 1 yard run by John Ross Hord with 1:22 left in the 1st period. The PAT attempt was no good but the Owls led 6-0.

Eli Martin scored on a 4 yard touchdown run for the Owls with 9:48 left in the 2nd period. Martin took it in on the 2 point conversion and Smith County led 14-0.

The Owls extended their advantage with 5:13 left in the 2nd period on a 45 yard touchdown pass play from Quarterback Cameron Spivey to Isaac Dick. The extra point by Waylon Timbs was good and Smith County was in front 21-0

The Tigers put points on the board with 4:37 left in the half on a 23 yard touchdown pass play from Quarterback Axel Aldino to T.J. Alexander. Andrew Fuson added the extra point to cut the Smith County lead to 21-7.

DC sliced into the Owls lead again with 28 seconds before half time on a 12 yard touchdown pass from Aldino to Grayson Redmon. Fuson tacked on the PAT and the Tigers trailed 21-14.

Smith County’s Eli Martin scored on the opening kick-off of the second half racing 91 yards for a touchdown. The PAT attempt was no good but the Owls owned a 27-14 lead.

Tiger Quarterback Axel Aldino found the endzone on a 7 yard touchdown run with 8:13 left in the 3rd period to cut the Smith County lead to 27-21 after Fuson’s PAT.

The Owls stretched their lead again with 6:59 left in the 3rd period on a 14 yard pass from Cameron Spivey to John Ross Hord. Tanner Marshall scored on the 2 point conversion to give Smith County a 35 to 21 advantage.

Jaden Apple added to the Owls lead on an 8 yard touchdown run later in the 3rd period. The PAT was no good but Smith County was on top 41-21.

The Tigers answered on a 4 yard touchdown run by David Bradford with 26 seconds left in the 3rd period and with Fuson’s PAT DC trailed 41-28.

Smith County’s Eli Martin scored his third touchdown of the game on a 45 yard run. The PAT try was no good but the Owls led 47-28.

The final score of the game came on a 5 yard touchdown pass to Axel Aldino to David Bradford with 50 seconds left. The 2 point conversion attempt failed the Tigers lost 47-34.

DeKalb County will travel to Macon County next Friday night, October 12. Kick-Off will be at 7 p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.




Wildcats Dampen DCHS Homecoming Spirits

The Livingston Academy Wildcats dampened Homecoming Spirits at DCHS with a 27-6 win over the Tigers Friday night in Smithville.

The loss drops the Tiger record to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the Region. The Wildcats improve to 4-3 and 2-1 in Region play.

The Wildcats had an opportunity for points early but missed on a 37 yard field goal. The visitors later cashed in on a Tiger turnover returning the pigskin to the DC 30 yard line. Mitchell Ayers completed the drive on a 3 yard touchdown run with 11:55 left in the 2nd period. Tee Beaty tacked on the extra point to give Livingston Academy a 7-0 lead.

The Tigers turned the ball over again this time on a fumble . The Wildcats got a return to the Tiger 14 yard line. Will McDonald then found Wesley Smith on a 14 yard touchdown pass with 10:40 left in the 2nd period and after Beaty’s PAT, the Wildcats led 14-0

DeKalb County got in the red zone before halftime moving to inside the 20 yard line but was stopped on 4th down.

In the second half the Wildcats were turned away on 4th down after marching to near midfield but the Tigers failed to capitalize. DeKalb County drove inside the Wildcats’ 5 yard line but fumbled away their chance to score on 4th and goal.

The Tigers’ only score of the game came with 9:47 left in the 4th period. After recovering a Wildcat fumble at the Tiger 21 yard line, DeKalb County drove 79 yards for a score. Axel Aldino found Grayson Redmon on a 27 yard touchdown pass play. The PAT attempt was no good but the Tigers cut the Livingston Academy lead to 14-6.

The Wildcats extended their lead on a 13 yard Will McDonald touchdown run with 8:36 left in the game. Beaty booted the extra point and Livingston Academy led 21-6.

McDonald then hooked up with Wesley Smith on a 19 yard touchdown pass play with 4:09 left in the game. Beaty  failed to connect on the PAT but the Wildcats went on to win 27-6.

The Tigers will travel to Carthage next Friday, October 5 to face the Smith County Owls. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
