Yorktown, VA—Violet Jo Cantrell Hall Domanski, 93, passed away peacefully October 17, 2018 at the Dominion Village at Poquoson assisted living and memory care facility after a 12-year battle with dementia. Jo was born August 20, 1925, in the Keltonburg community of DeKalb County, TN; graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1944; and then lived in Detroit, MI from 1944 until she moved to Virginia in May of 2011. Jo was a member of the First Baptist Church located at 16428 Nine Mile Road, Eastpointe, MI.
Jo worked in the Detroit automotive industry where she met her first husband, Elmer Bell Hall, from Silver Point, TN. Jo and Elmer were married July 15, 1950 and shared their experiences and enthusiasm for life with many friends and family prior to his death, July 14, 1975. Later, Jo married Fredrick Domanski on May 12, 1990 with the wedding ceremony being performed by her late nephew, Rev. Bill Lassiter. Jo and Fred enjoyed traveling extensively during their retirement years prior to Fred’s death, October 31, 2005.
Jo was a loved and loving individual that brought a high level of commitment and joy to family and friends. Her positive and uplifting personality leaves an indelible memory for those that were fortunate to have known her.
Jo is the last surviving member of her immediate family which included her parents Walter Hamilton Cantrell and Eva Hennessee Cantrell and five siblings: Lorene Judkins (Willie), Hilda Lassiter (Ernest), Wilma Moss (Beecher), James Cantrell, and Homer Cantrell. Jo is survived by four nieces and nephews: Nadene Judkins Hostettler (Arlington, TX), James Moss (Yorktown, VA), Bill Moss (Goodlettsville, TN), and Jo Ann Moss Hess (Rio Vista, CA).
In addition to family, Jo had many friends in MI, and this was particularly the case for the close and long relationship she had with the family of the late Kenneth and Maxine Carey and their two daughters and families: Barbara Pierce (Printess) of Macomb, MI and Mary King (Harry) of Spring Hill, TN. Also, acknowledgment is made of the loving care and help provided by her neighbors, Denice and Otis Keith, during Jo’s earlier stages of dementia and the subsequent care by the Dominion Village staff at both Williamsburg and Poquoson, VA.
A graveside service will be conducted at the DeKalb Memorial Gardens in Smithville by Rev. Bill Robertson at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 27, and Violet Jo’s cremated remains will be interred adjacent to that of her first husband, Elmer Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Justin Potter Library in Smithville, TN or the charity of your choice in memory of Mrs. Domanski.
