Katie Ruth Caldwell Shook was born November 9, 1935 in Smithville, Tennessee. She passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the age of 82 at her residence in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos E. Shook, who passed away February 19, 1972; parents, H. Clyde and Vera Summers Caldwell; her sister Francis, and her brothers Wayne, Jerry, Cordell and Joe Caldwell; and two grandsons, Jonathan Ellis and Justin Frizzell, whose passing she always mourned.
She is survived by one sister Margaret Ann Cantrell, four daughters, Brenda Ellis, Pamela Smith, Rita Jones, Janice Frizzell, and one son, Steve Shook, who were proud to call her “Momma”; grandchildren, Misty, Brandon Andy, Nick, Emily, Amanda, Steven, Kevin and Jessica, who all loved their Grandma dearly; nine great grandchildren who will all miss her love and affection, Karigan, Lillian, Anastasia, Arielle, Justin, Liam, Elliott, Hollis, and Braeden.
Katie was an avid gardener. She was a member of the Twin States Iris Society. Tall bearded iris was her favorite thing to grow.
For over the last thirty years, Katie was known to everyone as “Grandma”. She welcomed one and all into her home, sharing with them her cooking, wisdom or whatever else they needed. Katie was there to contribute her love and support to everyone. She will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville, Tennessee will be on Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. Katie chose cremation and her ashes will be interred at Whorton Springs Cemetery following the Memorial Service.
