John Kirk “Burdell” Maxwell age 77 of Mentone, AL passed away Sunday night, August 8, 2021 at his residence. He was born November 9, 1943 to his parents, the late Edgar Odell and Rubye Jewel Lowe Maxwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Ashford Maxwell; sister, Delmaleen Key and brother, Melvin Maxwell. He was a Methodist, U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam, member of the American Legion and a farmer. Mr. Maxwell is survived by 4 children, Kirk Vincent Maxwell of Birmingham, AL, Brenda (Nelson) Kerby of Mentone, AL, Christopher Allen Maxwell of Belvidere, TN and Steven Matthew (Kari) Maxwell of Belvidere, TN; 8 grandchildren, Kristen Maxwell, Megan (BJ) Miller, Amanda Patrick, Tristan Maxwell, Vlad Maxwell, Kaden Maxwell, Hunter MAxwell and Chase Maxwell; 7 great-grandchildren, Heath, Adam, Adalyn, Huckleberry, Luke, Granger and Katlyn; 1 sister, Marceen Davis of Smithville. Funeral services will be 2 PM Friday, August 13, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jim McAfee officiating and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Friday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
