Dr. Richard Loren Jones age 91 of Smithville, passed away Thursday morning, March 5, 2020 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. He was born November 9, 1928 in Pana, IL to his parents, the late Harold Vernon and Helen Kay Grossman Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles V. Jones. Dr. Jones practiced in Cowden, Illinois until his retirement in 1969 at which time he and his family moved to Arizona and where he served as Student Health Administrator at ASU. He was a member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Korea. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Delores Jones of Smithville; 2 children, Richard Reed Jones of Crossville and Janet (Kevin) Felts of Tullahoma; 1 grandson, Trent Jones of Knoxville and 1 great-granddaughter, Nora Jones. The family has chosen a direct cremation and a Memorial Service will be held 5:PM Sunday March 15, 2020 at Dry Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Donald Owens officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday 3:PM until the time of the service at 5:PM at the Church. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
