David Scott Davis, “Big Dave”

David Scott Davis, “Big Dave” passed away peacefully at his home at Center Hill Lake on Thursday, June 2nd at the age of 73.

Dave was born in Bridgeport, CT on May 6, 1949. He grew up in Donelson, TN and later moved to Old Hickory, TN on the lake. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1999. When he wasn’t on the lake, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with his many friends. Dave was a kind-hearted and fun-loving man who never met a stranger. He was the life of the party and loved by everyone.

Dave is survived by his loving daughters Cheryl Betty (Eric) of Old Hickory, TN; Melissa Paris (William) of Mt. Juliet, TN; granddaughter, Deana Spruill and great-grandson Maddox; brother Chuck Davis (Jan) of Waverly, TN and sister, Cathy Myers (Jimmy) of Westminster, SC. as well as his companion, Patty Bacon. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Kevin Harbin.

The family has honored his request to be cremated and private services will be held later. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Billy League Phillips Jr. was born to the late Billy Phillips Sr.and Minnie (William) Hurd on October 11, 1953. He departed his life on May 31, 2022 at Vanderbilt Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Phillips will be on Saturday, June 4 at 1pm with burial to follow at DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 11am until the time of service at 1pm.

Billy graduated from DeKalb County High School in Smithville, TN and attended Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 42 years.

Billy enjoyed traveling, fishing and watching westerns and the sports channel. He played adult league softball for the Lakers and Homeboys. After retiring from the United States Postal Service, he volunteered and enjoyed coaching his granddaughter in softball.

Billy is survived by his lifelong partner Donna Carr, siblings Danny (Libby) Phillips Sr., Julia Owens, Gerald (Karen) Hurd, Vincent (Sabrina) Hurd and Lisa (Robert) Seay. Children;Tracey Phillips, Ike (Donda) Phillips, Darrick Dibrell and Alicia Carr. Grandchildren; Kyler Phillips, Corey Phillips, Chloe Phillips, Leni Dibrell, Kita Carr and Tyron Carr. He has two surviving uncles, Walter Phillips and William Griffith. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends left to cherish his memory.

Brian Timothy Beckham age 56 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday May 31, 2022 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was born July 11, 1965 to his parents, Tom and Wanda Beckham. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Arlin Beckham. He worked as an Auto Mechanic and Small Engines. Mr. Beckham is survived by his parents, Tom and Wanda Beckham of Smithville; brother, Thomas John Beckham, II, of Smithville; 2 nephews, Travis Beckham and Joshua Beckham; sister-in-law, Shelia Beckham of Smithville. The family has honored Mr. Beckham’s request to be cremated and no services are planned. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jimmy Dwayne Evans, age 61 of Smithville, TN passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022 at his residence.

Mr. Evans was born on January 24, 1961 in Smithville, TN to his parents, the late Charles & Frankie Jo Stewart Evans. A Brother, Gary Evans also precedes him in death. He was retired from Nissan and was a Christian. Jimmy served in the National Guard when he was younger.

The family has chosen cremation. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 4 at 1:00 pm at Whorton Springs Cemetery.

Survivors include 5 Brothers, Larry (Jannie) Evans of Smithville, TN, Danny (Diane) Evans of Cannon County, TN, Ronnie (Carolyn) Evans of Smithville, TN, Eddie (Julie) Evans of Rockwood, TN, Frank (Darlene) Evans of Smithville, TN & Wanda (Roger) Bradford of Smithville, TN. Several Nieces & Nephews also survive.

Lee Eugene Brooks age 76, passed away Sunday May 29, 2022 at his residence in Brush Creek. He was born December 25, 1945 to his parents, the late Billie Buck and Gertrude Sol Brooks. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Alexander Presley; sisters Karen Murdock, and Jeanne Henson; brother, Pasquel Cleveland. He was of the Pentecostal faith and worked Restored Antiques and Classic Cars. Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Janet Elaine “Charlie” Brooks of Brush Creek; daughter, April Ford of Brush Creek; grandchildren, Hadley Nicks, Hayden Nicks, Maddux Presley. The family has honored Mr. Brooks request to be cremated. No services are planned. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

85-year-old Reba June Ashburn of Smithville passed away Thursday morning at her son’s residence. She was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Brother Dan Gulley will officiate and burial will be in the Ponder-Burton Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m.

Mrs. Ashburn was preceded in death by her parents Maude and Amon Parsley, husband Don Ashburn, sister and brother-in-law Edith and Billy Adcock, sister-in-law Peggy Richardson and granddaughter, Leslie Ashburn Houchin. Survivors include two sons, Ronald and Tammy Ashburn of Smithville, and Lyndon and Deborah Ashburn of Dowelltown; granddaughter, Stacy Winfree (Fiancé’ Howie Rose) of Smithville; two great grandchildren, Rilee Winfree (Matt Agee) and Laina Winfree of Smithville.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Smithville Church of Christ Day School.
