Donna Bell

April 9, 2019

71 year old Donna Bell of Murfreesboro passed away Friday at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She was a Baptist, an Usher Board member at Prosperity Baptist Church and she was retired from Westinghouse. The funeral will be  Wednesday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Pastor Michael Alley, Sr. will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 16 from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m.  She was preceded in death by brothers, Edward Lauderdale and Charles Lauderdale. She is survived by two daughters, Delia Lauderdale and Terra Bell both of Murfreesboro. Four grandchildren, Nicole Bell, Brent Lauderdale, Christian Seay, and Devin Lauderdale all of Murfreesboro. One great grandchild, Brent Lauderdale, Jr. of Murfreesboro. One sister, Elma Jean Hudson of Nashville. Ex-husband, William Lee Bell, Jr. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Billy Braswell

Billy Braswell age 83 of Dowelltown passed away Monday morning, April 8, 2019 at NHC HealthCare in Smithville.  He was born June 8, 1935 to the late L.D. Braswell and Jennie Lee Braswell Tubb.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steve Braswell.  Billy was retired from Ross Gear and a member of the Dowelltown United Methodist Church.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Retha Nell Braswell of Dowelltown; 4 daughters, Susan Braswell of Smithville, Becky Thomas (Sam Parker) of the Johnson’s Chapel Community, Jo Ann (Tim) Davis of Liberty and Janie (Mark) England of Smithville; 9 grandchildren, Patrick Woodside, Holly Woodside, Quastaia Braswell, Aaron Braswell, Brandon Davis, Ethan Davis, Katy England, Eli England, Sarah Parker; 6 great-grandchildren, Patrick Woodside, Kaylee Braswell, Colby Braswell, Nolan Davis, Isaiah Smith and Ianna Smith; 1 sister, Naomi Miller of Dowelltown and 1 brother, Donnie (Wanda) Braswell of Dowelltown.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Sam Ordung and Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 p.m. In  lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Caris Hospice or the Cancer Society, in memory of Mr. Billy.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Hazel Neal Roberts

Hazel Neal Roberts age 86 of Smithville, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, April 4, 2019.  Everyone that knew her could say that we were blessed to have known such a special lady.  She was most definitely an angel on Earth, but now she’s a true angel.  Hazel was born November 14, 1932 to her parents, the late Henry and Bessie Melton DeLong.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Tom Neal and E.J. Roberts; 1 son, Eddie Neal; 3 step-children, Eugene Roberts, Cecil Roberts, Brenda Koontz.  She was a member of Mt. Hope The Baptist Church and recently attended Tabernacle The Baptist Church and was a long-time employee of Genesco.  She leaves to cherish her memory, Floyd (Linda) Neal of McMinnville, Rose Ellen (Larry) Stevens of Smithville, Janet (Darrel) Trapp of Dowelltown and Donna (Buddie) Robinson of Smithville; 1 step-daughter, Geraldean (Wayne) Madewell of Rock Island; 9 grandchildren, Emily (Nick) Vanatta, Joni Robinson, Kessie Robinson, Zeva Robinson, Jayrah Trapp, Jamison Trapp, Tony Neal, Marty Stevens and Sandra (Matthew) Majors; 9 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild;  1 great-great grandchild; brother-in-law, Waymon Roberts of Morrison and a host of church family and friends.  Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Garry McBride and Tim Pack officiating and burial will follow in Banks Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday 10:AM until the time of the service at 3 p.m.  In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Mt. Hope or Tabernacle The Baptist Churches or the Dementia Association, in memory of Ms. Hazel.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Troy Jones, Jr.

April 5, 2019

88 year old Troy Jones, Jr. of Liberty passed away Friday, April 5 at St. Thomas DeKalb. He was a Baptist, employee of Smithville Manufacturing, and a farmer. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Brother Michael Carpenter will officiate and burial will be in Mt Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2 until 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Jones, Sr. and Ova Martin Jones; four sisters, Hazel Caplinger, Margaret Hendrixson, Nelle Pezzani and Gladys Slagle; and three brothers,  Buford, McKinnley, and Jimmy Jones. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sally Maynard Jones of Liberty. One daughter, Cynthia Drake of Dowelltown.  One son, Michael and Jackie Jones of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Kevin and Deana Jones and Jason Jones all of Smithville and Troy West of Dowelltown. Five great grandchildren, Kailey Jones of Dowelltown, Asa and Asher Jones of McMinnville, Issac Magourik and Benjamin Jones both of Smithville. Christopher Lynn Barnes

April 4, 2019

Christopher Lynn Barnes, age 47, a Ft. Mitchell, AL resident and Cannon County, TN native was born July 23, 1971 and passed away April 3, 2019 in Piedmont Atlanta Hospital following a two-month illness.

He was a special education teacher in the Muscogee County Georgia School District, member of the Church of Christ and son of Betty Barnes of the Short Mountain Community and the late Steve Barnes. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Jessie Barnes; maternal grandparents, James and Evolene Burks; and mother-in-law, Fay Wade.

Mr. Barnes was married October 6, 2009 to Julia Wade Barnes who survives. In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by son, Peyton Colt Barnes of Alabama; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Barnes of Spencer, TN; father-in-law, Jerry Wade of Phenix City, AL; uncle, Jesse Barnes, Jr. of Murfreesboro, TN; special brother, Nathan “Buddy” Brazle of the Short Mountain Community; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Andrea Wade of Phenix City, AL; three nieces, Arissa Wade, Katelyn Martin and Jessica Martin; and cousin, Marion Barnes of Odessa, TX.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Blues Hill Church of Christ with Kevin Key to officiate. Interment will follow in Blues Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm Friday, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm Saturday and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Sunday at High’s.

Lori Ann Rigsby Nokes

Lori Ann Rigsby Nokes age 57 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday morning, April 2, 2019 at her residence.  She was born November 4, 1961 to her parents, Jackie R. and Frances Alexander Rigsby.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Glynn Nokes.  Lori was a member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church and worked at Oster.  She is survived by her parents, Jackie R. and Frances Rigsby of Smithville; brother, Jackie Darrell Rigsby of Smithville; 2 step-sons, Toby Nokes and Brock Nokes; step-grandchildren, Jayde, Alivia, Alexis, Tayvian, Desmond, Paige, Lindsey and Justis.  The family has honored Lori’s request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Ric Lee and Mike Carpenter officiating.  Visitation will be Saturday 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
