Gail Miller

Gail Miller, age 69 of Smithville passed from this life on Friday, May 24 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.  She was preceded in death by her parents Herb Checchi and Anna Marie “Skippy” Triolo; husband, Tom Miller; stepson, Jeffrey Miller; and sister, Bonnie Caplinger.  She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, son in law and granddaughter, who were also her caretakers, January, Josh, and Kennedy Agee and her beloved dog, Stella.  She is also survived by sons, Billy and Jess Zaderiko; step-daughter, Jessica Miller; sisters, Evvie Hunter,  Geri Checchi, Carrie Criscitelli; brothers, Mick, Herb, and Dino Checchi. Grandchildren, Joshua Zaderiko, Devin Zaderiko, Zach Odom, James Zaderiko, and Jaxon Zaderiko; three great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  The family has honored Gail’s request to be cremated.  There will be a Memorial Service celebrating Gail’s life, 6 p.m. Saturday June 8, 2019 at Smithville First Assembly of God with Josh Agee officiating.  Visitation with the family will be on Saturday June 8, 2019 from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 6 p.m. at the Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Gail, to the charity of your choice.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Ina Ruth Bess

90 year old Ina Ruth Bess of Smithville passed away Sunday at NHC Smithville. She was a teacher in the DeKalb County School System for 58 years. Ms. Bess was also a BPW member, Sunday School teacher, Tigerette sponsor at DCHS for 39 years, director of many Junior and Senior plays at DCHS, 3 year BETA Club sponsor, and did voluntary service of birthday calls for members of the Smithville First Baptist Church for many years. She was a devout member of the Smithville First Baptist Church for 71 years. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Chad Ramsey and her grandson Scott Bess will officiate. Burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. Ms. Bess was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Clara Bell Webb; ex-husband, Paul Bess; granddaughter, Kayla Renee Malone; two sisters, JoEvelyn Underhill and Janelle Lafever; and a brother, Ray Morris Webb. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Tina Bess and Greg and Malissa Bess all of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Scott and Ashley Bess of Biloxi, Mississippi, Kelli Bess of Smithville, and Brandon Schebel of Cookeville. One great grandchild, Bailey Kidd of Murfreesboro. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, donations can be made in memory of Ms. Bess to the Smithville FBC Youth Group or Haven of Hope.




Carrie Dean Bass

May 24, 2019

81 year old Carrie Dean Bass of Alexandria died Thursday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a DeKalb County native and a member of the Grace Bible Church.  She was a garment factory worker. Visitation will be Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements which remain incomplete. She was preceded in death by her father, Wade Smith; husband, Charles David “Syrup” Bass; a brother, Wayne Smith, and an infant sister, Barbara. Survivors include her children, Becky Bass Moore, Dennis and Rhonda Bass, Perry Bass, and Terry and Brandy Bass. Grandchildren, Michelle and Kevin Cox, Twana and Michael Leath, Sharika Moore, Paige Bass, Nikki Bass, Javon Bass, and Madison Bass. Great grandchildren, Kendall Cox, Latravia Cox, Melasia Gillis, Ziah Gurley, and Makenna Lomas. Mother, Carrie Helen Smith. Brothers, James and Mary Smith, Wade and Jackie Smith, and Billy Smith. Several nieces and nephews survive. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.




Jimmy Loyd Pascal

69 year old Jimmy Loyd Pascal passed away Monday at his Smithville home. He was a Baptist and disabled.  The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy Pascal Taylor, a brother, James Thomas Pascal, and a sister Pearl Caldwell. Survivors include a son, Benjamin Pascal of Lewisburg; two grandchildren, Nevaeh Pascal of McMinnville and Piper Pascal of Lewisburg. One sister, Helen and Jewel Johnson and a brother, Shirley Pascal all of Smithville. One sister-in-law, Josephine Pascal of Georgia. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Lois Norene Randall

May 20, 2019

97 year old Lois Norene Randall of Smithville passed away Sunday at the Webb House Retirement Center. She was a homemaker, member of the First Baptist Church, and the Eastern Star. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harmon Redmon and Oma Pack Summers; husband, Claude Randall; daughter, Debra Fuson; brothers, Garlon, Jack, Lloyd, Nelson, and Mack Redmon; and sisters, Nevelene Reeder and Norene Anderson. She is survived by a sister, Jeanette Smithson. A sister-in-law, Jo Dean Redmon. Special nephew, Larry Redmon and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Pattie Brown Johnson

May 20, 2019

Pattie Brown Johnson age 83 of Liberty, passed away Saturday morning, May 18, 2019 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was born January 13, 1936 to her parents, the late John Robert and Bonnie Inez Martin Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, John, Frank, Bill, Samuel and Robert Estes; sisters, Ella Murphy, Ova Mathis, Jessie Bauman, Jean Alford and Lucille Brandon. Miss Johnson was a member of Christ Pentecostal Church and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She is survived by 2 sisters, Eula Presley of McMinnville and Christine Murphy of Smithville; 1 brother, Toy Lawson of Liberty and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, May 20, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Billy Hale and Bro. Toy Lawson officiating and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be Monday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
