Mary Christine Smith

Mary Christine Smith age 65 of McMinnville, passed away Tuesday morning December 3, 2024, at her residence. She was born March 21, 1959, to her parents the late Nolan & Dorothy May Estes Underwood. She had worked at the shirt factory, Goody’s, and as a cook at Warren County High School, she was a member of the Pentecostals of McMinnville Church. In addition, to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Willie Underwood and Calvin Underwood; First husband: Buford Anthony Myers; Grandson: Kayden Anthony Myers. Funeral services will be held 11:AM Thursday December 5, 2024, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Robert Burns and Jason Nunley officiating with burial to follow in the Center Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday 3 PM until 7 PM and Thursday 9:AM until time of the service at 11:AM. Survivors include her husband Roger Smith of McMinnville; Children: Christy (Tim) Anderson of Sparta, Angela (Beau) Patrick of Smithville, Shanda (Paul) Peterson of Sewanee, Alisha (Andrew) McCormick of McMinnville; Grandchildren: Blake Myers, Brooklyn Hosse, Austin Hosse, Spencer Peterson, Carson McCormick, Brantley McCormick; Great-Grandchildren: Mason Myers, Adalyn Myers, Tucker Godwin; Sisters: Wanda Beshearse of Smithville, Joyce Farless of Lebanon, Rebecca Farris of Smithville, Brenda Anderson of Liberty; Brother: Greg Johnson of Rock Island. Maurene Gillette

December 4, 2024

Maurene Gillette age 98 of the Dibrell Community of Warren County, passed away at her residence Monday afternoon December 2, 2024. She was born April 20, 1926, to her parents the late Henry and Myrtle Jones Young. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph T. Gillette; daughter, Mildred Louise Lee; siblings, Marvin Young, Betty Jean Young, Juanita Donalson, Gerald Young, and Willie Young. Ms. Gillette was a member of New Bildad Primitive Baptist Church and worked as an Insurance Clerk with Century. Maurene taught 4 of her successive generations how to make biscuits and to appreciate good homegrown foods, along with countless other lessons. Her quiet generosity was known to all who knew her. She is a treasured grandmother, sister, and aunt to many and the bedrock of her family. She is survived by grandchildren, Cheri Lee (Steve) Farris of NE., Mark (Angelia) Lee of Murfreesboro; great-grandchildren, Brittaney Dean (Daniel) Lopez of GA., Thomas (Alexis) Ashcraft of Nashville, Josie (Clifford) Cook of Shelbyville, Lance (Aubrey) Lee of Murfreesboro; Great-great-grandchildren, Raiden and Ronin Lopez, Mary Rose, Tommy, Henry, Charlie, and JR Ashcraft, Ansley Gaad, Maverick Cook; siblings, Charles (Barbara) Young, and Jimmy (Marlene) Young; niece, Carolyn (Toby) Cantrell; great nieces, Jamie (Andrew) Cantrell, Lisa (Dustin) Prater, and Teresa Atnip. Funeral services will be held 11:AM Friday December 6, 2024, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Elder Ricky Arnold officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday 3 PM until 7 PM and on Friday 9:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM. In addition to flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Ms. Maurene. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Gillette family.




Phillip Lane Lawrence

Phillip Lane Lawrence age 57 of Brush Creek passed away Sunday morning December 1, 2024, at Quality Center for Rehabilition & Healing in Lebanon. He was born April 2, 1967, in Smithville. He was a construction worker. Phillip was preceded in death by 1 brother: Greg Lawrence; Grandparents: James & Annie Odell Summers. Graveside Memorial Service will be held 1 PM Saturday December 14, 2024, at DeKalb Cemetery. No visitation will be held. Survivors include Mother: Barbara Summers of Brush Creek; Father: Frank Lawrence of Smithville; 3 Children: Molly Lawrence, Matthew Lawrence both of Smithville, Hunter Summers of Memphis; 6 Grandchildren also survive. Roy Lane Tramel

December 1, 2024

Roy Lane Tramel, age 64, of Smithville, passed away at St. Thomas West on Friday, November 29, 2024. Born in Smithville, TN on April 29, 1960, he was the son of the late Dennis and Oma Mai Taylor Tramel. Roy was a dedicated truck driver.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marla Tramel of Smithville; his daughter, Myra (Blake) Reffue of Smithville; his son, Joshua Lane Tramel of Smithville; and his cherished grandchildren, Lilly Grace Reffue and Savannah Leigh Reffue of Smithville. Roy is also survived by his brothers, Calvin Ray (Darlene) Tramel and Ricky Doyle Tramel, all of Smithville, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday from 4:30-8pm and again on Monday from 10am until the service at 2pm.

Bobbye Ruth Pack

Bobbye Ruth Pack, age 89, of Smithville, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. Born on May 14, 1935, to the late Johnny and Jessie Ervin Hill, Bobbye was a dedicated nurse who spent her career caring for others. She was a Baptist. She was predeceased by her son, Johnny Pack; the father of her children, Joe Pack; her brothers, Clarence Ervin and Billy Joe Hill; and her sister, Betty Gora. Bobbye’s legacy of kindness and service will be remembered by all who knew her.

Visitation with the Pack family will be on Sunday from 11:00 am until the service time at 2:00 pm. Bro. Gary Caplinger will officiate and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include 2 sons, Wayne (Regina) Pack, Jimbo Pack (Crystal Brown); 1 daughter, Janice (Mike) Clayborn; 7 grandchildren, Tim (Mitzi) Pack, Kim (Jacob) Crook, Amy Young, Shelia (Brandon) Crawford, Misty Wilson, Brian Pack and Johnny (Brittany) Pack; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; special friends, Ralph Petty and Bertha McBride. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Jack Rhody and St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital.

Mainelle Mathis Derting

Mainelle Mathis Derting age 92 of Liberty, passed away Thursday morning, November 28, 2024 at her son’s home. She was born January 18, 1932 to her parents, the late Lee and Callie Chumbley Mathis. Mainelle was a retired factory worker and a member of the Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Davenport ad a nephew, Larry Davenport. She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Marie) Derting of Liberty; granddaughter, Tabitha Derting of Liberty; great-grandson, David Hutchins of Liberty; 2 nephews, Mickey (Jennifer) Davenport of Liberty and Hugh (Terri) Davenport of Smithville; niece, Leigh Ann McGill of Knoxville. Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday, December 1, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. In addition to flowers, the family ask that donations be made to either Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Chruch or to Caris Hospice, in memory of Mainelle.
