Joe Gordon Fitts

Joe Gordon Fitts, 77, of Liberty, TN, passed away Friday, November 1, 2019 at the NHC Healthcare in Smithville, Tn.

Mr. Fitts was born January 26, 1942 in Lebanon, TN a son of the late Ruby Gordon Fitts and Alta Irene Washer. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Teresa Anderson, Grandson: Thadeus Anderson and a brother James “Red” Fitts.
He was a graduate of Liberty High School, Liberty, TN. He married Lucille Hamlett on January 25, 1964. Joe loved fishing and the outdoors.

Mr. Fitts is survived by his wife of 55 years; Lucille Hamlett Fitts of Liberty, TN. Son; Joe Fitts, Jr, of Liberty, TN. Five Grandchildren; Megan Lynn Fitts of Smithville, TN, Haley Renee Fitts of Smithville, TN, Trinity (Amelia) Anderson of Gordonsville, TN, Titus (Stacey) Anderson of Mississippi, and Travis (Danielle) Anderson of Smithville, TN. Siblings; Patricia Bain, Mary Ray, Barbara Ray, Brenda Wooden, and Stephen Fitts. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Mr. Fitts are scheduled to be conducted on Monday, November 4, 2019 at 1PM from the Chapel of Avant Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Clayborn officiating. Interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.

Visitation with the Fitts family will be at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria, TN, on Sunday from 1PM until 8PM and on Monday from 10AM until service time at 1PM.

Reba Nell Jones Hennessee

80 year old Reba Nell Jones Hennessee of McMinnville passed away Thursday at Boulevard Terrace in Murfreesboro. She was a retired steamstress and homemaker and a member of the Mt Leo Church of Christ. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Trent Key will officiate and burial will be in the Mt View Cemetery in McMinnville. Visitation will be Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Hennessee; parents, Benjamin and Sophie Cantrell Jones; and two sisters, Jean Neal and Helen Mayo. Survivors include a daughter, Karan and Kerry Crowe of Virginia. Three sons, Brad and Renee Hennessee of Smithville, Kevin and Heather Hennessee of Smyrna, and Stacy Hennessee of McMinnville. Eight grandchildren, Nathan Crowe and Samantha Crowe of Virginia, James and Abby Caplinger, Zackary and Faith Caplinger, Katya, Valya, and Pasha Hennessee of Smithville and Rion Hennessee of Smyrna. Two great grandchildren, Brookelynn and Brayden Caplinger. One sister, Dean Edge of Smithville. One brother, Winston and Nellie Jones of McMinnville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Earl Ellis Lester

Earl Ellis Lester age 82 of Smithville and formerly of Hanover, WV, passed away Wednesday October 30, 2019 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.  He was born March 11, 1937 to his parents, the late General and Minerva Mullins Lester.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Lester; daughter, Frieda Lester; siblings, Dorothy Copley, Ed Lester, Harold Lester, Shirley Mayhorn and Mack Lester.  Mr. Lester was a member of the Sprattsville Freewill Baptist Church in Sprattsville, WV, a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired coal miner.  He leaves to cherish his memory, 3 children, Karen Christian of Rock Island, John Lester and fiancé, Kelee Kennedy of Rock Island and Aaron and wife, Karen Lester of Smithville; 5 grandchildren, Susan (David) Taylor, Nick (Jodi) Lester, Cassi (Chad) Curtis, Jayde Lester and Jacob Lester; 5 great-grandchildren, Preston, Paizlee and Parker Sue Taylor, and Jonah and Karsyn Lester.  Funeral services will be 5 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Nathan Thomason officiating.  Visitation will be Friday 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.  Interment services and burial will be 2 p.m. EST Saturday at Palm Memorial Gardens in Matheny, WV.  In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shriner Children’s Hospital, in memory of Mr. Earl.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Ricky Andy Lawrence

Ricky Andy Lawrence age 61 of Smithville passed away Monday October 21, 2019 at NHC of Smithville. He was born January 31, 1958 to his parents, the late Frank Buffalo and Emogene Brazier Lawrence. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard Lawrence and Michael Lawrence; sister, Gloria Jean Lawrence; special friend and mother of his child, Janice Houk-Zoller. He was retired from Star Manufacturing. He survived by daughter, Nena Cantrell of Smithville; grandchild, Raven Cantrell of Smithville; brother, Frank (Shelby) Lawrence of Smithville; sister, Julie (Bobby) Lawrence Pulley; special lifelong friends, Terry Pedigo and Little Man Pedigo; special nieces; Scarlett Lawrence and her children, Keley Reeder and Ricky Ponder; nieces Donna Estes, Melissa Petty, and Sherry Bloom. The family has honored Mr. Lawrence request to be cremated.  A Memorial Gathering to celebrate and honor Ricky’s life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the Midway Community Center. In lieu of flowers  the family ask that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with final expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Oma Frances Taylor

Oma Frances Taylor age 101 of Smithville passed away Tuesday October 29, 2019 at her residence.  She was born November 18, 1917 to her parents, the late Isaac Yates & Hattie Jewel (Bell) Tisdale Taylor.  She was a retired garment factory worker and a member of Indian Creek Memorial Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Firman L. Taylor; Sisters: Myrtle Taylor, Elsie Lamberson, Ruby Mullican, Clara Nixon, Julie Ervin, her twin Ona Durham, Audrey Snyder; Brothers: Dan, Roy, Johnnie, Bob & Joe Taylor; Several nieces & nephews.  Funeral service will be held 1:PM Friday November 1, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Ric Lee officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be Thursday 1:PM until 6:PM and Friday 10:AM until time of service at 1:PM.  Survivors include Son: Harold (Melise) Taylor of Alabama; Daughter: Mary Spencer of Smithville; Grandchildren: Denise Spencer Patton, Darrell (Teresa) Spencer of Smithville; Great-Grandchildren: Justin Patton & Allison Patton both of Smithville, Caleb Spencer of Smyrna; Sisters-in-law & Brothers-in-law: Helen Taylor Cook, Hazel Taylor Johnson, Georgia Ridout all of Smithville, Jorene (Glenn) Thompson of Oklahoma, Gene (Mary) Taylor of Statesville & Donald (Debbie) Taylor of Greenvale; Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews also survive.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Gray Webb

88 year old Thomas Gray Webb of Smithville passed away Tuesday at the Webb House. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was also a retired teacher of 44 years. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Isaac Gray and Dan Gulley will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Benton (TB) and Gladys Gray Webb. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Audrey Turner Webb; special nephew, Brad and Dana Turner; and two special great nephews, Nathan Turner and Jacob and Courtney Turner all of Smithville. Brother, Dr. Kenneth and Faye Webb of Pulaski. Two nieces, Martha Gray and Alonzo Guess of Nashville, Sarah and Scott Stewart of Pulaski, great niece Maggie Guess of Nashville, and a great nephew Webb Stewart of Pulaski. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Webb requested that no flowers or food be sent but instead anyone who wishes to may donate to the Whorton Springs Cemetery fund or to the charity of your choice.
