The DeKalb County Tigers will travel to Nashville tonight hoping to upset the state’s 7th ranked Maplewood High School Panthers in the first round of the Class 4A TSSAA Play-Offs.
The Tigers enter the game at 3-7 overall and the fourth place team from Region 3. The Panthers are 9-1 overall and finished first in Region 4.
Tiger Coach Steve Trapp said he has encouraged his team to put the regular season behind them and focus on the Panthers.
“They need to understand that this is the play-offs and everything that happened during the regular season is done and gone. The bottom line is we have achieved a team goal by getting into the play-offs. We would have liked to go into it with a home seed and somebody coming to play us but this is the road we paved for ourselves. Once you get into the post season its new but being a four seed going against a one seed has its challenges and there is no doubt with what we put on the field for the first 10 games this year there is probably not a lot of positive reactions about the capabilities we have against Maplewood but what is most important is what we believe as a team and we have worked extremely hard this week preaching to these guys what kind of football game we must have so I am confident they will go out here tonight and fight and give us everything they’ve got and then we will see where we are at the end of the game,” said Coach Trapp.
Kick-off will be tonight at 7 p.m. If you are traveling to the game check the google map on the local sports page of the WJLE website for directions to Maplewood High School.
