Three people were involved in a crash Tuesday afternoon on Highway 56 near the DeKalb/Warren County line.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 77 year old Melva Patton of Smithville was traveling south on Highway 56 in a 2015 Toyota Rav4 attempting to turn left onto R. Arnold Road but Patton failed to yield to northbound traffic and was struck by 2000 GMC Sierra driven by 64 year old George Nixon. The impact caused Nixon to run off the road to the right and then hit a ditch before overturning several times. Both Nixon and his passenger, 64 year old Joyce Nixon were injured. Patton was not hurt. All three were wearing their seatbelts. Patton was charged with failure to yield.
