DCHS students will go on a shopping spree Tuesday without having to leave campus during the biannual “Tiger Boutique”.
Organized by the Service Society Club, formerly known as Climate Crew, the “Tiger Boutique” will be held in the DCHS Ina Ruth Bess auditorium and students can obtain for free gently used donated brand name clothes, shoes, and accessories regardless of income. Shopping hours will be from 7:20 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.
If you’re looking to clean out your closets to get rid of some older clothes your kids have outgrown, it’s a great way to dispose of them. The only requirements are the donated clothes have no tears, rips, stains, or odors. Donations will be accepted through Tuesday, September 21 at DCHS. The biggest need is for men’s clothes.
After the collection effort the clothes are sorted and displayed. Students are then treated to an entire day of shopping during their free time at school. The “Tiger Boutique” is usually held twice a year during the fall and spring.
”On Tuesday we will have the “Tiger Boutique set up where we offer clothes for free to any student at DCHS. We give out some VIP passes to give early access before school starts to some students and then all throughout the day when they have a free period or in between classes they can ask permission to come in and shop,” said Sara Young, Math teacher and Service Society Club sponsor, who oversees the project along with Sonja House.
“The clothes are all donated by people in the community. We have some people who donate brand new clothes and others who donate clothes that they can’t or don’t wear anymore. The idea is to make the clothes available to those who can use them,” she said.
The name of the sponsoring club was recently changed from Climate Crew to Service Society to better identify the mission of the group. “The new name better reflects what we do. We try to do different service projects throughout the year,” said Young.
