Jason Long Wins 21st Annual Fiddler 5K (View Videos Here)

A 40 year old man won the 21st annual Fiddler 5K and One Mile Fun Run (this morning) Saturday.

Jason Long ran the course in 18:03 seconds

He was among 414 participants in the race, the second largest number of runners in the history of the Fiddler 5K.

Meanwhile 41 year old Kristen Van Vranken won the race among females. She ran the course in 19:46 seconds and finished 9^th overall.

Winners in other categories were:

TOP MALE MASTERS (Age 40 and older): 46 year Fidel Balderas at 18:49 seconds

TOP FEMALE MASTERS (Age 40 and older): 45 year old Tracy Watson at 23:50 seconds

One-Mile Fun Run (age 12 and younger) winners:

TOP MALE: 12 year old Brady Adcock at 7:32 seconds

TOP FEMALE: 10 year old Claire Evans at 7:50 seconds

Funds raised will support Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County.

“A Step Up “ from Waverly beat out two other teams to win the Youth Square Dancing competition at the Fiddler Jamboree Friday night.

Second Place went to Jackson Hollow of Franklin while Little Texas of Franklin took third place.

A total of eight youth square dance teams competed in the preliminaries.

Meanwhile the Slim Chance Band of Smyrna won the Old Time Fiddle Band competition to bring the first day of the 48th annual Smithville Fiddlers Jamboree and Crafts Festival to a close Friday night

The first day of the 48th Annual Smithville Fiddlers Jamboree and Crafts Festival Friday featured lots of singing, picking and dancing.

As is usually the case during the Jamboree, rain forced an afternoon delay in the program but it didn’t last long and even with the shower all the competition was completed by 10:30 p.m.

During the opening ceremony, DeKalb County’s state lawmakers presented flags flown over the state capitol to Jamboree visitors who traveled the longest distances to get here.

State Senator Mark Pody presented a Tennessee State Flag to Bob and Denise Watke of Spokane, Washington and to Pam Gonzalez of Sacramento, California.  Joshua Ginter of Oakland Tennessee received a state flag from State Representative Terri Lynn Weaver and State Representative Clark Boyd gave a United States flag to Maylin Phillips of the Phillipines.

The opening ceremony also featured the posting of colors by the Smithville Fire Department Honor Guard and the national anthem sung by Emily Phillips followed by a welcome from Fiddlers Jamboree President and Coordinator Sam Stout,  County Mayor Tim Stribling, Smithville Mayor Josh Miller, and Chamber Director Suzanne Williams. Other local officials were also introduced and then the Community Chorus took to the stage to deliver a stirring patriotic musical program
