DCHS Lady Tigers Go 2-0 in Gordonsville HOF Play-Day, Tigers Finish 0-2

The DCHS Lady Tigers went 2-0 in the Hall of Fame Play-Day at Gordonsville Saturday, but the Tigers were 0-2 for the day.

The Lady Tigers defeated Liberty Creek 57 to 36 and Gordonsville 60 to 45 while the Tigers lost to Liberty Creek 61 to 43 and to Clay County 58 to 56.

In the girls game against Liberty Creek, DC led 12 to 4 after the 1st period, 27 to 20 at halftime, and 49 to 25 after the 3rd period before notching the 57 to 36 win.

Ella VanVranken led in scoring for DC with 23 points followed by Chloe VanVranken with 12, Avery Agee and Tess Barton each with 6, Hannah Brown 4, and Allie Melton and Lillie Young each with 3.

In the game with Gordonsville, the Lady Tigers led 16 to 11 after the 1st period, 31 to 22 at halftime, and 50 to 33 after the 3rd period before going onto win 60 to 45.

Ella VanVranken scored 25 followed by Chloe Vanvranken 14, Avery Agee and Tess Barton each with 8, Allie Melton 3, and Bella Rackley with 2.

For the Tigers in their game with Liberty Creek, DC trailed 12 to 10 after the 1st period, 25 to 18 at halftime, and 48 to 29 after the 3rd period before losing 61 to 43.

Conner Close led the Tigers in scoring with 17 followed by Seth Fuson, Ian Colwell, and Alex Antoniak each with 5, Logan Duke, Jordan Parker, and Jon Hendrix each scored 3 and Kaleb Spears had 2.

In the game with Clay County, the Tigers led 20 to 15 after the 1st period and 35 to 31 at halftime. The Tigers were up 52 to 44 after the 3rd period but were outscored in the 4th period and lost to Clay County 58 to 56.

Dallas Kirby led in scoring for the Tigers with 21 points followed by Jon Hendrix with 15, Conner Close 6, Seth Fuson and Alex Antoniak each with 5, Ian Colwell 3, and Jordan Parker with 1.

The Lady Tigers, 2-1, will travel to Providence Christian Friday. November 24th. The Tigers, 0-3, currently have no games scheduled this week.

Two Blood Assurance drives are scheduled this week.

A DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Assurance Drive will be November 20 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the County Complex in front of the Senior Citizens Center at 718 South Congress Boulevard. The blood drive will be on the mobile. All donors will receive a pair of “Turkey and Football” socks inspired by Friends! (while supplies last). An assault on a teen has resulted in charges against a Smithville man.

30-year-old David Scott Stokes of Miller Road is charged with child abuse and aggravated assault.

Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins said that on October 29 police were summoned to Mapco Express due to a fight in progress. Upon arrival an officer spoke with the parties involved, including the 17-year-old victim and learned that Stokes had gotten out of his vehicle and approached the victim. As Stokes drew closer he lifted his shirt and reached in the waistband of his pants, which caused the victim to fear that Stokes might have a gun. Stokes then allegedly struck the teen on the right side of his face causing bodily injury. It turned out that Stokes had no weapon but a cell phone in his waistband. Bond for Stokes is $11,000.

49-year-old David Edward Walker of Indiana was arrested October 30 on active warrants from Robertson County. Police responded to a call of someone trespassing on private property and upon arrival found Walker there. He was placed in custody without incident.

19-year old Lucas Ryan Hale of Liberty and 26-year old Michael Alan Coronado of Kendra Drive were arrested on October 31 for child abuse or neglect. Police answered a complaint of an altercation in the Wal-Mart parking lot involving Hale, Coronado and a 17-year-old juvenile. Police learned that Hale had started a physical fight with the juvenile by pushing and punching him, while Coronado placed the victim in an armbar hold causing injuries. Bond for Hale and Coronado is $5000.

45-year old Stephen A. Patterson of Pine Grove Road was arrested on November 1 for evading arrest, reckless driving, a 2nd offense of driving on a revoked license and he was cited for speeding, and a violation of the seatbelt and financial responsibility laws. While on patrol, an officer spotted a vehicle leaving the city limits traveling 91miles per hour (confirmed by radar) in a 55 mph zone. The officer activated his emergency equipment and tried to pull over the vehicle, driven by Patterson, but it failed to stop until it wrecked on Lakeview Circle. Patterson then got out of the automobile and tried to flee on foot but the officer apprehended him. Patterson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the incident. He had no license and couldn’t provide proof of insurance. His bond was set at $13,500.

22-year old Hallie Ann McCardell of Braswell Lane was arrested on November 2 for domestic assault. According to Police, McCardell and the victim got into a verbal altercation that became physical when McCardell allegedly struck the victim with her hand causing a visible injury to the right side of the victim’s face. Bond for McCardell was set at $3,500.

60-year old Mary Michelle Johnson of McMinnville was cited on November 6 for vandalism. Police were alerted that a woman was trying to get in a building at 310 West Bryant Street. Upon arrival, an officer confronted the suspect, Johnson who had allegedly pulled some flowers out of a flower bed in front of the building. Her court date is November 30.

54-year-old Robert Roy Atnip of South 4th Street was arrested on November 7 for public intoxication. Police responded to the Court House where Atnip was allegedly found unsteady on his feet in the parking area. According to Police, Atnip wanted to drive home but after failing to perform well on field sobriety tasks, he was placed under arrest. Police said they later received several complaints about Atnip’s behavior from local businesses in the area. Bond for Atnip is $2,500 and his court date is November 30.

41-year old Tommy Jerome Bates of Foster Road was cited November 10 for trespassing. Police were called to the Dollar General Store on South Congress Boulevard where they found Bates on the property after he had been ordered to keep away from there on September 24. His court date is November 30.

33 year old Alvin Davis Warren of Smithville was cited on November 10 for theft of property. Police were called to Wal-Mart where Warren allegedly had been caught taking merchandise from the store without paying for it. His court date is November 30.

52 year old Richard B. Turner of Fisher Avenue was arrested on November 11 for theft of property. According to police, Turner was seen taking an Amazon package that did not belong to him out of a UPS box at Mapco. Upon arrival, the officer spotted Turner trying to hide the Amazon box under the fuel tank behind Mapco. The item that was in the box was found on the ground.Bond for Turner is $1,500 and his court date is November 30.

38-year old Jonathan Thomas Lee of Pennsylvania was arrested on November 12 for DUI. Police pulled over a truck that had failed to maintain its lane of travel and upon speaking with the driver, Lee, the officer noticed that his eyes were red and watery, his speech was slurred and he had a strong odor of alcohol on him. During the investigation, police learned that Lee had just left Midnight Express where he had consumed 8-10 beers. Lee submitted to but performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tasks. Lee’s bond is $6,000 and his court date is November 30.

31-year old Terry Lee Jones III of Gentry Avenue was cited on November 13 for theft. Police picked up Jones after learning he had allegedly taken items from Wal-Mart without paying for them. The items were recovered and returned to the store. Jones’ court date is December 14.

19-year old Jefferson Bradley Collins of Foster Road was cited on November 15 for vandalism. According to police, Collins was skateboarding through the Wal-Mart parking lot when a blue Toyota van drove past him. Collins then allegedly punched the back window out of the vehicle. His court date is November 30.

41-year old Tommy Jerome Bates of Foster Road was arrested on November 16 for public intoxication and resisting stop, frisk, halt, arrest or search. Police were summoned to KFC/Taco Bell where a man, Bates was reported to be yelling and acting belligerently. Upon arrival, police were told that the man had left but an officer spotted him walking on West Broad Street. As the officer approached and tried to speak with Bates, he fled on foot. According to police, Bates ran up the stairs to the College Street bridge, across and down the other side of the bridge then crossed five lanes of travel. The officer caught up with Bates and took him down with force placing him in custody. Bates was found to be unsteady on his feet, belligerent, and he had an odor of alcohol on him. Bond for Bates is $7,000 and his court date is November 30.
