Smithville McDonalds Seeks Holiday Wish List Donations for Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonalds House of Charities of Nashville presents “Our Holiday Wish List”.

Can you help make our wishes come true?

The Smithville McDonalds is now accepting donations until December 11 and every donation will receive a free large soft drink.

Items requested are:

Toys (ages1-5), journals, stress-relieving coloring books, jewelry (preteens/teens/adults), car seats (4-30 pounds), perfume gift sets, bottles, helmets, lotion gift sets, preemie clothes, gloves, winter hats and scarves, rattles, pacifiers, strollers, baby toys, diapers (sizes: NB, 1,2,3,4), baby dolls (all cultures, no stuffed animals), arts and crafts sets (no child coloring books or crayons), bicycle, tricycles and non-motorized scooters. All gift items are to be new items only.

Many families travel far from home and spend several weeks or months to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children – a long time to be away or to divide a family. And, for children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having mom and dad close by for love and support. A Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families to call home so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little to no cost.

The generosity of volunteers and donors make it all possible. In return, guest families are asked to make a donation for each night’s stay to help continue operations for future guest families. No eligible family is ever turned away or denied future access to the program because they could not or did not make a donation.

For the first time in school history DeKalb County High School will be represented in the quarterfinals of the TSSAA Football Playoffs as the Tigers (8-4) travel to Nolensville to face the Knights (10-2) in the third round of the post season in Division I Class 4A.

Kick-off will be at 7 p.m. and WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

Tiger Talk November 21

“They (Nolensville) do some things that are unique for high school level football as far as the secondary and they have been consistent at doing that all year in all the films we have seen. Its not that they play one team one way and another team a different way. They have been pretty consistent with what they do. It is sometimes difficult to get a pre-snap read because they do a lot of things after the snap. They are very successful with that. Their front end and back end compliment each other pretty well as far as what they do. But Tullahoma had a good defense and Marshall County was touted to have a good defense as well and they did. Its about us finding ways to attack what they do. It simply comes down to execution. Its about executing our blocks and making sure we are doing the basic stuff correct and that is run, blocking, and tackling. It won’t be easy and it hasn’t been easy. It comes down to efficiency on first down and manageable situations on third down and to keep down penalties and turnovers which also comes into play,” said Tiger Coach Steve Trapp.

“Offensively they look a lot like us. They can get in that 2 by 1 look with a sniffer as a lot of people call it and have some run game off that with some RPO stuff where you actually have a run called but the quarterback can keep it or throw it to a receiver and then they can spread it out. Last week we went five wide and went empty. A lot of the stuff they do offensively is very similar to what we do. You know we as coaches have not invented football. We do what we believe in and what we think puts our kids in the best situation to be successful and that is what they (Nolensville) do as well. We feel like we have some playmakers just as they do so again defensively for us it comes down to visually seeing what they are in. It all starts with the alignment and assignment and then it goes into your technique and being able to make plays. We have done a better job of that the last few weeks. We just have to make more plays than they do, hold out for 48 minutes, and score more points,” added Coach Trapp.

This season DeKalb County has beaten Stone Memorial 33-0, Grundy County 49-12, Cannon County 41-10, Smith County 28-24, Macon County 26-13,  Cumberland County 41-6, Tullahoma 45-34, and Marshall County 28-24 and lost to Warren County 35-21, Upperman 35-0, Watertown 42-20, and Livingston Academy 31-0.

Nolensville has beaten Antioch 63-6, Watertown 32-14, Springhill 35-7, Lawrence County 43-0, Columbia 28-0, Tullahoma 13-7, Glencliff 51-6, Maplewood 23-10, Macon County 47-7, and Livingston Academy 33-7. The Knights have lost to Franklin 25-23 and to Marshall County 30-14.

WJLE’s pre-game shows begin with “Coach to Coach” at 5 p.m. featuring former coaches Doug Matthews, Dave McGinnis, and broadcaster Larry Stone.

“Tiger Talk” begins at 6:30 p.m. featuring DCHS Coach Steve Trapp and Tiger Football Players Axel Aldino, Tyzaun Ladet, and Isaac Cross. John Pryor, the Voice of the Tigers, is the host of the program.
