Tigers Win 32-0 at Grundy County

After four weeks of close finishes, the DCHS Tigers enjoyed a breather Friday night winning 32 to 0 at Grundy County in Coalmont.

The Tigers improve to 2-3 on the season while Grundy County drops to 0-4.

All the scoring in the game came in the 1st half.

DeKalb County got on the board with 3:13 left in the 1st period as Quarterback Axel Aldino launched a pass to Isaac Knowles good for 36 yards and a score. Kicker Jasper Kleparek tacked on the extra point and the Tigers led 7-0.

DC got a safety with 10 minutes left in the 2nd period after Grundy County Quarterback Jacob Dixon was tackled in the endzone which put the Tigers on top 9-0.

Desmond Nokes scored on a 5 yard run with 7:06 left in the 2nd period capping a 33 yard drive. Kleparek added the extra point and DeKalb County led 16-0.

Aldino then found Nokes on an 8 yard touchdown pass with 2:45 left in the half capping a 60 yard drive. The PAT by Kleparek was good and the Tigers held a 23-0 lead.

DeKalb County got another safety with 2:20 left in the half after a high snap sailed over the Grundy County quarterback’s head while in the shotgun formation extending the Tigers lead to 25-0.

The last score of the game came on a 12 yard touchdown pass from Aldino to T.J. Alexander with 1:02 left before halftime. The extra point by Kleparek was good and the Tigers went on to win 32-0

DeKalb County will travel to Cannon County Friday night, September 25. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

The Lions are 0-5 with losses to Walker Valley 39-0, Warren County 48-0, Sequatchie County 46-0, Community 28-20, and Upperman 48-6.

Hunter is a really cool laid back dog. All he needs to make his canine life complete is a new forever home.

This two and a half year old Australian Shepherd mix is the WJLE/DeKalb Animal Shelter featured “Pet of the Week”.

“Hunter has been neutered and ready to go. He loves other dogs and like cats. Hunter is perfect for anyone who isn’t necessarily looking for a high energy dog. He is super laid back. If you would like to meet Hunter go to our website, fill out an adoption application, send it in, and we will call you and set up an appointment for you to get to know Hunter,” said Shelter employee Emmaly Bennett.

Meanwhile, the DeKalb Animal Shelter is currently nursing back to good health 10 dogs who were recently brought in with medical issues.

“On Friday the 11th we took in 10 dogs from our community in need of medical assistance. Since then, each dog has been given a name, vaccinations, Heartworm screened, microchipped, dewormed, flea prevention & plenty of food,” said Shelter Director Megan Moore.

“Even though these dogs are malnourished, loaded with parasites and were in a significantly less than ideal living situation, they are improving every day. We ask for your support and understanding during this time as we continue to provide care, socialization and ongoing medical attention for each dog,” she said.

As for Skylar, Moore said he is doing really well and has just learned to walk on a leash.

The shelter, located on Transfer Station Road behind Tenneco Automotive off Highway 70 east in Smithville, has been in operation since November, 2017 under the DeKalb Animal Coalition, a 501 c 3 non profit organization.
