73-year-old Freddy Smith Martin of Alexandria died Thursday at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. He was parts manager for Lebanon Lincoln-Dodge . The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at West Main Baptist Church in Alexandria where he was a member. Dusty Desimone will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-8 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. Martin and Ila Mai Smith. He is survived by his wife, Laverne Martin of Alexandria. Children, Jason and Resa Martin of Murfreesboro and Trena Gassaway of Dickson. Grandchildren, Dana Chris (William) McCarthy, Claire Martin, Julia Martin and Kate Martin and great grandchild Coralee McCarthy. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Lester Hayes

Lester Hayes age 95, of Sparta passed away April 24, 2023, at NHC Healthcare in Sparta. He was born May 1, 1927, to his parents the late Elzie and Grace Hayes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 children, James Hayes and Mary Hayes; great-grandchild, Reeves Thomas; brothers Chester and Beecher Hayes. Mr. Hayes was a Baptist and worked for over 40 years at Chrysler and worked as a Chrysler salesman for 16 years. Mr. Hayes was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He is survived by grandchildren, Troy Thomas, Scott (Amanda) Hayes, Eric Hayes, Jaime (Shayne) Whiteaker, Chris (Nikki) Thomas, and Megan (JJ) Hendrixson; great-grandchildren, Tessa Thomas, Alex (Kelsey) Hayes, Lexie Hayes, Allyson (Lucas) Young, Luke Hayes, Kensley Whiteaker, and Alyssa Hayes; great-great-grandchildren, Kelsea, Raymond, Kyler, Remington, Reagan, and Raya. Funeral services will be held 5:30 PM Friday, April 28, 2023 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Stewart Orell officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 4 PM until the time of the service at 5:30PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Brandon Maynard

Mr. Brandon Maynard, age 43, of Smithville passed away on Friday, April 21 at his residence.
He was born on April 15, 1980 in Smithville, TN to his parents, Terry Maynard and Kathy Bilbrey, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a son, Ather Michael Maynard.
The will be a graveside service on Tuesday, April 25 at noon at Boma Cemetery.
Survivors include 3 sisters, Virginia (Robert) Oaks of McMinnville, Michaela (Cody) Murphy of Smithville, and Amanda Bilbrey of Cookeville; 2 brothers, Chris Bilbrey of Jackson County, and William Steven Gilliam; special nieces and nephews, Brayden Murphy, Austin Murphy, Colby Murphy, Abigail Rhoton, and Robbie Oaks; Aunts, Janie (Ricky) Fults of Liberty, Rosie Maynard of Cookeville, and Donald Maynard of Indiana; special friends, Ricky Murphy and Jason Pack; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
The family has requested that donations be made to Love-Cantrell Funeral Home to help with burial expenses.

Grace Cecelia Huling

Grace Cecelia Huling age 78 of Smithville passed away Sunday morning April 23, 2023 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. She was born January 8,1945 to her parents, the late John William & Celia Bell Woodall Morris. She retired after 20 years from Walmart, she was a former member of the Bible Church in Manchester and currently a member of New Life UPC in Smithville. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Larry Huling; Half-Brother: Leroy Henley. Funeral Services for Ms. Grace will be held 11:AM Wednesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Dwayne Cornelius, Vernon Waggoner, Keith Huling officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 4 PM until 7 PM and Wednesday from 9:AM until time of the service at 11:AM. Survivors include: Children: Keith (Barbara) Huling of Smithville, Cynthia Morgan of Smithville, Bryan (Holli) Huling of Loganville; Grandchildren: Ryan (Kelly) Huling, Dallas (Meghan) Huling, Hannah Jo Huling, Brandalynn Huling, Bryson Huling; Great-Grandchildren: Maddie Huling, Zach Huling, Allie Huling; Brother: John Morris of Dyersburg. In addition to flowers the family asked that donations be made to New Life UPC children’s ministry or Building Fund. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Lonnie Buford Mullican

Lonnie Buford Mullican age 83, passed away Saturday April 22, 2023, at his residence in Dowelltown. He was born January 22, 1940, to his parents, the late William Fate and Zona Goodwin Mullican. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter, Kayla Hurst; siblings, Alvie Mullican, Gloston Mullican and Austin Mullican. Mr. Mullican was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church and worked at the Shirt Factory. Buford loved his family, animals and gardening. He enjoyed farming and was always ready to go fishing. He is survived by wife of 64 years Hazel Mullican of Dowelltown; 4 children, Melissa (Brett) Bishop of Murfreesboro, Teresa (Don) Bryant of Dowelltown, Tony (Terri) Mullican of Manchester and Christy (Jimmy) Barrett of Dowelltown; 5 grandchildren, Lonnie “Rusty” McCloud, Chase Bryant, Tara (Matt) Colwell, Amber Schultz, Amy Beena Afoakwa; 5 great-grandchildren, Nimue’ Grace McCloud, Lucy Hurst, Layla Kai Colwell, Shiloh Schultz and River Schultz; special niece, Jayrah Hire; special nephew, Doug Mullican. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Monday April 24, 2023, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale and Doug Mullican officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses or to someone less fortunate, in memory of Mr. Mullican. Robert Lloyd Farris

Mr. Robert Lloyd Farris age 73 of Smithville passed away Thursday night, April 6 at his residence. He was retired from Star Mfg. and attended Peoples Pentecostal Church.
He was born on February 23, 1950 in Smithville, TN to his parents, Frank & Wilma Murphy Farris who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a stepson, Wayne Estes, 1 bother and 4 sisters.
The family has chosen direct cremation to honor Mr. Farris’s wishes. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 5 at 1:30pm at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and burial will follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Stewart Farris, 1 brother, Jimmy (Rebecca) Farris, 2 step-children, Nisy Maynard and Nae Keaton, several nieces and nephews also survive.
