Jerry Vesper Pistole

Jerry Vesper Pistole passed away at his home in Cookeville, Tennessee, on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the age of 82. He was born July 9, 1942, in McMinnville, Tennessee to the late Vesper and Eva Burks Pistole. He graduated from Tennessee Tech University in 1964. A proud veteran, Jerry served his country as a Navy pilot during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Navy, he continued to serve his country as a Federal Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Jerry served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

After retiring from government service, Jerry was the owner and operator at Cumberland Mountain Hunting Lodge and Cumberland Field Stone. He was a faithful member of Stevens Street Baptist Church in Cookeville, TN where he served as a deacon for many years.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Judith Ann Pistole; son daughter-on-law, Jay and Jane Pistole of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, son and daughter-in-law, Jarrett and Christal Pistole of Liberty, TN, son and daughter-in-law, John and Angela Pistole of Baxter, TN; and granddaughters, Kate Pistole of Liberty, TN and Jenny Pistole, of Baxter, TN.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home between the hours of 5-8pm, and on Monday February 17, 2025 10:00 a.m-12:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at Salem Cemetery in Liberty, TN.

Charlotte Lockhart Barnard

Charlotte Lockhart Barnard, age 82, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at NHC HealthCare in Smithville, TN.

Charlotte was born March 6, 1942 in Smithville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Houston (Bud) & Frances (Snooks) Lockhart, sister, Shirley Lockhart Ingram, as well as her husband, Laird Barnard.

A lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Smithville, Charlotte was a teacher at DeKalb County Head Start for many years and spent most of her career working for Dekalb County Department of Children’s Services. She loved to garden, work in her yard, and absolutely loved all animals. Charlotte spent most of her retirement years joyfully spending time with her great grandchildren. She had an amazing upbeat attitude, something humorous to say, and always had a smile. One of her requests was that no sad music be played at her funeral service.

She is survived by her son Robin (Kristie) Driver, daughter Wendy Humphrey, grandsons Derek Driver and Ashton Campbell, six great grandchildren, Ethan Absher, Eli Humphrey, Kiana, Taylan, Robert, & Kiera Driver.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at NHC HealthCare for all of the love and care Charlotte received over the past year.

Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Sunday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. David Lunsford officiating and burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, February 16, 10:AM until the service at 1:30 PM

Richard “Toledo” Schilt

Richard “Toledo” Schilt age 60 of Smithville passed away Thursday night February 13, 2025, at St. Thomas DeKalb ER. He was born September 28, 1964, to his parents the late Richard Ray & Esther Sickmiller Schilt. He was U.S. Navy Veteran, an avid pool player, auto mechanic, member of AmVets, and former member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife: Doreen Schilt of Smithville; Son: Brandon Schilt of Smithville; 2 Stepsons: Kyle Devers of Manchester, Derek Devers of Ohio; Sister: Lori Yoder of Smithville; Niece: Kiley Yoder of Smithville. The family has honored Mr. Schilt’s wishes to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Schilt family.
