Donald Ray Sonner

92 year old Donald Ray Sonner of Liberty died Sunday at St. Thomas West, Nashville. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Smithville. Don joined the Navy at the age of 17 where he retired with 23 years service. After his retirement, he opened Sonner Real Estate in Smithville where he was the Owner/Broker for 45 years. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Dan Clayton will officiate and burial will be in the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Harrison Sonner and Elsie Bottles and a brother, Wilbur Sonner. Sonner is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nola Sonner. Children Donna Sonner and Donald Ray Sonner, Jr. A sister, Rowena Jean Brunner. Cousin, Norma and Ted Cotner and several nieces and nephews. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.

Barbara Dean Arnold age 74 of Smithville, passed away Saturday morning, April 13, 2019 at NHC HeathCare Center in Smithville. She was born May 6, 1944 to her parents, the late Arthur Bell and Clara Bell Atnip In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Arnold; 2 sisters, Joyce Spurlock and Eva Hill; 3 brothers, Paul, Vernon and Roy Hendrixson. Barbara Dean was a member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church, Homemaker, longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross and the Secretary for the Patients Council at NHC. She is survived by 1 sister, Anna Ruth (Jack) Chidester of White Bluff; 2 brothers-in-law, Jerry Spurlock and Jimmy Arnold both of Smithville; 1 sister-in-law, Joan Hamilton of Smithville; niece, Pam (Mike) Baines of Smithville; great-niece and nephew, Emily (Josh) Linder of Norfolk, VA and Michael Paul White (Karla Gaddy) of Virginia Beach, VA; great-great-niece and nephew, Katie Linder and Wesley White. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Mike Carpenter and Ric Lee officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 p.m. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to NHC HealthCare, Avalon Hospice, St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital and Dr. Kevin Rhody for the love and care shown to Barbara Dean. Shirley Jean Weir Parker age 79 of Smithville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, April 11, 2019. Shirley was born July 29, 1939 to her parents, the late William Virgil and Geneva Baker Weir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Parker and 1 brother, Virgil Weir. She was a very faithful member of the Smithville First Baptist Church, Insurance Agent, she and her late husband owned and operated Smithville Builder’s Supply for many years. Shirley enjoyed being a member of the Smithville Senior Citizens and was a former member of the Jaycettes. Her greatest accomplishments was being a precious mother and nana. She leaves to cherish her memory, children, Sandy (Brent) Russell, Shelby (Joey) Reeder, Charlie (Joy) Parker and Sara Parker all of Smithville; grandchildren, Chris (Sarah) and Erik Russell, Paige (Byron) Adcock, Claire Garrett, Katie Parker; great-grandchildren, Brantley, Brayden, Anastyn, Sydney, Stella, Lakelynn and Summer; 1 sister, Sharon Ingle of Florida; sister-in-law, Audrey (Donald) Owens of Lebanon; several nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Chad Ramsey, Bro. Larry Green and Bro. Donald Owens officiating and entombment will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Smithville First Baptist Church in memory of Ms. Shirley. 71 year old Donna Bell of Murfreesboro passed away Friday at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She was a Baptist, an Usher Board member at Prosperity Baptist Church and she was retired from Westinghouse. The funeral will be Wednesday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Pastor Michael Alley, Sr. will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 16 from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. She was preceded in death by brothers, Edward Lauderdale and Charles Lauderdale. She is survived by two daughters, Delia Lauderdale and Terra Bell both of Murfreesboro. Four grandchildren, Nicole Bell, Brent Lauderdale, Christian Seay, and Devin Lauderdale all of Murfreesboro. One great grandchild, Brent Lauderdale, Jr. of Murfreesboro. One sister, Elma Jean Hudson of Nashville. Ex-husband, William Lee Bell, Jr. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Billy Braswell age 83 of Dowelltown passed away Monday morning, April 8, 2019 at NHC HealthCare in Smithville. He was born June 8, 1935 to the late L.D. Braswell and Jennie Lee Braswell Tubb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steve Braswell. Billy was retired from Ross Gear and a member of the Dowelltown United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Retha Nell Braswell of Dowelltown; 4 daughters, Susan Braswell of Smithville, Becky Thomas (Sam Parker) of the Johnson’s Chapel Community, Jo Ann (Tim) Davis of Liberty and Janie (Mark) England of Smithville; 9 grandchildren, Patrick Woodside, Holly Woodside, Quastaia Braswell, Aaron Braswell, Brandon Davis, Ethan Davis, Katy England, Eli England, Sarah Parker; 6 great-grandchildren, Patrick Woodside, Kaylee Braswell, Colby Braswell, Nolan Davis, Isaiah Smith and Ianna Smith; 1 sister, Naomi Miller of Dowelltown and 1 brother, Donnie (Wanda) Braswell of Dowelltown. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Sam Ordung and Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Caris Hospice or the Cancer Society, in memory of Mr. Billy.
