Mainelle Mathis Derting

November 29, 2024

Mainelle Mathis Derting age 92 of Liberty, passed away Thursday morning, November 28, 2024 at her son’s home. She was born January 18, 1932 to her parents, the late Lee and Callie Chumbley Mathis. Mainelle was a retired factory worker and a member of the Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Davenport ad a nephew, Larry Davenport. She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Marie) Derting of Liberty; granddaughter, Tabitha Derting of Liberty; great-grandson, David Hutchins of Liberty; 2 nephews, Mickey (Jennifer) Davenport of Liberty and Hugh (Terri) Davenport of Smithville; niece, Leigh Ann McGill of Knoxville. Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday, December 1, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. In addition to flowers, the family ask that donations be made to either Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Chruch or to Caris Hospice, in memory of Mainelle. The family would like to Thank to nurses and staff of Caris Hospice, for the love and care shown to Mainelle. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Derting family.




Jerry Lee Hinton

November 26, 2024

Jerry Lee Hinton, born on July 31, 1950, in Alabama, was a beloved son of Troy H. and Eva Lee Hinton. He graduated from Huntsville High, where he was an active member of the varsity basketball and baseball teams. Jerry pursued higher education at Jacksonville State and the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, earning a degree in accounting and obtaining his CPA Certification in 1976. He furthered his studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he also taught accounting as a Graduate Assistant.

Jerry’s professional journey took him to Charlotte, NC, where he worked in accounting for Lifetouch Photography. He later moved to Fayetteville, TN, working for Mr. William (Bill) Carter, and eventually opened a CPA firm, House and Hinton, in Huntsville, AL. His career included roles as a comptroller for Haysland Construction, a position with the Alabama Dept of Education, and as Financial Controller for Tennessee Blasting Services. He retired as Chief Financial Officer from Eastland Construction in Mt. Juliet, TN.

Jerry was a dedicated member of Smithville First Baptist Church, where he taught Bible studies, served on the Finance Committee, and was the Church Treasurer. He was also involved in the National Tax Summit Committee in Washington, DC, and was a Commander of American Legion Post #122, supporting Veteran’s programs. Jerry enjoyed his time with the Hinton/Ballard Fish Eating Club, celebrating TAGRWC (The Andy Griffith Re-run Watcher’s Club) with their group name being, “No Mail For Me?”.

Jerry was a patron of the Nashville Symphony for twenty-five years supporting local charities and missions including the Annual Storytelling Event for Imagination Library, Annual Youth Exhibit, Campus Crusade, and Big Oak Ranch. Jerry supported his wife by driving her all over several states for musical events as her official chauffeur. Jerry loved listening to gospel music as he felt it presented a message of his Lord and Savior.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Susan Frazier Hinton; sons, David L. (Crystal) Hinton and Rance D. (Annette) Kelly; grandsons, Michael, William, and Wyatt Hinton; granddaughters, Katelyn, Caroline, and Camryn Kelly; brother, Wayne (Gay) Hinton; niece, Sara (Bjorn) Lanwer; nephew, Matthew Hinton, and great nieces. He was predeceased by his son, Troy Eugene Hinton, his parents, and his grandparents.

Visitation with the Hinton family will be on Saturday, November 30, from 10am until the time of the funeral services at 2pm in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, with burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Jordan Atnip, Jerry Parker, and Dr. Chad Ramsey will officiate.

Jerry would want to be remembered as a Christian, a man who loved God, family, and frienc fiercely. He lived every day to the fullest and practiced kindness. Jerry was a testimony anc blessing to all who knew him.

In addition to flowers, you may make donations to First Baptist Church Legacy Fund, Gideons International, Big Oak Ranch, AL or Campus Crusades.

Kevin Wayne Cox Sr.

Kevin Wayne Cox Sr. was Born May 22,1961 in Alexandria, Virginia to his late Parents, William Cliff Cox Sr. and Robbie Elizabeth Herring and departed this life on November 22, 2024 at his residence at the age of 63. He spent most of his life in factory work. He was also preceded in death by his Brother, William Cliff Cox Jr., his Sisters, Connie Lee Allen and Nancy Smith. He leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Lisa Chapman Cox, his Children, Kevin Jr. (Michelle) Cox, Angela Pack (Hershel Tate), Eric Cox, Jamie Gibbs (Jared Smith), Felicia (Allen) Taylor, Takeshia Castillejos (Terry Stringer), Dawn Jones and Sabrina Hall. Grandchildren,Kirra Smith, Jay Smith, Dasia (Josh) Speaks, Seth Gibbs, Evelyn Taylor, Christian (Mckenzie) Brown, Emily (Drake) Sherman, Latravia Cox, Kyndal Cox, Christopher Cox, Cadance Cox, Isabella Castillejos, Grayson Castillejos, Jayson Stringer, Karen Johnson, Kristin Orrand and Johnny Orrand and his Great-Grandchildren, Lilah Sherman and Tyana Noland. His is also survived by his Siblings, Lisa (Bob) Dunderville and Diane Simms and special nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be Monday, November 25, 2024 at 10 till service time at 2pm at the chapel. Darrell Gill will officiate. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.




Nancy Jane Pinegar

Nancy Jane Pinegar age 82 passed away at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Saturday November 23, 2024 from injuries received in a house fire on October 26, 2024. She was born July 31, 1942, to her parents the late Lester and Lori Roller Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Pinegar, Sr.; son, David Wayne Pinegar; daughter, Debra Dunn; daughter-in-law, Rhodessa Pinegar; son-in-law, Jimmy Beacham; grandson, Percy Lee Pinegar,III; granddaughter, Layla Pinegar; sister, Ann Puckett.  She is survived by her children, Percy Pinegar, Jr., Charles (Melissa) Pinegar, Cindy Beacham, Johnny Lee Pinegar; son-in-law, Jimmy Dunn; special granddaughter, Kayla (Greg) Hooper; grandchildren, Jimmie Lynn (Kenneth) Wolfe, Billy (Lashonda) Dunn, Jessica Steinback, Rebecca Steele, Jason (Misti) Parsley, Chris Pinegar, Jessie Pinegar, and Dillon Lee; several great and great-great grandchildren; 1 special great-great grandson, Issiac Pinegar; 2 sisters, Dean Pinegar of McMinnville and Evelyn Crawford of Ohio. Graveside Services and interment will be 1PM Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Webb Cemetery at Bluff Springs with Matthew Johannsen officiating.  Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday 9:AM until 12:30, at which time Mrs. Pinegar will be taken to the cemetery for the graveside service.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Pinegar family.




Phillip Branch

November 21, 2024

Phillip Branch, age 66, of Smithville, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Born in North Folk, Virginia on December 1, 1957, Phillip was the son of the late Luther Edward Branch and Vera Gayle Wilson. Phillip was a self-employed carpenter.
He is survived by his loving wife, Esperanza Branch of Smithville, and his children: Elizabeth (Michael) Bailey of Lake Linden, Michigan, Kristy Collier of Smithville, and Melissa (Trey) Clede of Groveton, TX. He was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Gayle Wilson, his sisters Gay Mounsey and Holly Branch, and his brothers Mike Branch, Luther Branch, and David Branch, along with several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, the family has chosen direct cremation to honor Phillip’s memory.

Sharon Thomas

November 21, 2024

Sharon Thomas age 65 passed away Monday November 18, 2024, at her residence in Smithville. She was born October 14, 1959 to her mother, Lois Moore Sellers and her father, the late Shirley Reeves Ramsey. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie “Gabby” Thomas and son, Patrick Thomas. Sharon was of the Baptist Faith and was a nursery worker. She is survived by 2 sons, Corey Thomas and Brandon Thomas both of Smithville; grandchildren, Hayden Thomas, Adrian Thomas (Tesa Hall), Emma Thomas, and Katie Bouldin; great grandson, Jackson Thomas; mother and stepfather, Lois (J D) Sellers; siblings, Dennis Ramsey, Gina (John) Loran, Tania Sewell; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family has honored Ms. Sharon’s request to be cremated, and no services are planned at this time. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Thomas family.
