Edith Faye Snow

Edith Faye Snow age 90 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday October 5, 2021 at her residence. She was born July 31, 1931 to her parents, the late Claude Green and Bessie Ford Sumner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Snow, Sr.; sisters and brothers, Maud Sumner, Jessie Mae Kimbrell, Loretta Paris, William Green Sumner and Kenneth Sumner. She attended the Smithville Church of the Nazarene and retired from Ferodo. She is survived by 1 son, Thomas (Vicky) Snow of Smithville; 2 grandchildren, Emily (Caleb) Moore of Smithville and Thomas Hutchins of Smithville; great-grandson, Landon Hutchins and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services and interment will be 3 PM Thursday, October 7, 2021 at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will not be any visitation or services held at the funeral home, family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service at 3 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Hazel Stanley age 83 of Smithville passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 at her residence. She was born November 20, 1937 to her parents, the late Roy and Mary Davenport Hullett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Stanley; father of her children, O. L. Stanley; 3 brothers, Jimmy, Mack and Alton Hullett; 2 sisters, Clara Mae Hullett and Aline Farless. She was a Baptist and a retired factory worker. Ms. Hazel is survived by 3 children, Donnie Stanley (Kathy) of Sparta, Brenda (Jeff) Taylor of Smithville and Sandy Atnip of Smithville; 10 grandchildren, Donnie (Sherry) Stanley, Jr., Tonyia (Jimmy) Sparks, Colleen (David) Clary, Matt (Jessica) Stanley, Katrena (Greg) Miller, Karen (Tim) France, David (Susan) Taylor, Ricky Atnip, Jr., Brandon Atnip and Christopher Atnip; 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren sister, Faye Smith of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Tucker of Manchester; several nieces and nephews; special nephew, Bobby Hullett and special family, Ricky Atnip. Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in Odom Cemetery in Auburntown. Visitation will be on Tuesday 4 PM until 7 PM and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Jaye Ann Ogden Ottinger was born on November 23, 1944 to Betty Jo Young and David Jay Atnip, Jr. in Smithville, Tennessee. She passed away on September 30, 2021 after her third battle with cancer.
Jaye graduated from DeKalb County High School in Smithville. She moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1974 to live the remainder of her life. She was a devoted member of Mountaintop Community Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.

Jaye felt blessed to have two wonderful husbands. The first of these was James “Jim” Carl Ogden, Jr., to whom she was married in 1968. Jim and Jaye had two daughters, Kellie and Heather. The light of Jaye’s life was her grandchildren, J.D., Piper, Kai, Asher, Jackson, and Molly Kate. There was nothing Jaye loved more than making memories with her children and grandchildren. She particularly enjoyed having tea parties, playing in the pool, and traveling with her entire family.

Many years later, Jaye found love a second time with Jamezell “Jim” Marion Ottinger. Jaye and Jim married in 1992 and were inseparable until his death in 2018. In usual Jaye fashion, she opened her heart to Jim’s amazing children, Jamie, Linda, and Keith, who to this day refer to her as Mom II.

Jaye was a very successful businesswoman. She was the first Fannie Mae approved underwriter in the southeastern United States as well as the first woman to own a mortgage company in the state of Alabama. She was also the first single woman to become a full member of the Vestavia Hills Country Club.

Jaye sold her mortgage business, First General Lending, to Pinnacle Bank in 1997 and finished her career there as the Vice President of Mortgage Lending. She broke the glass ceiling and loved the role of training and supporting new loan officers.

Jaye was preceded in death by her parents, David Jay Atnip, Jr., Betty Jo Davis, and Joe Wyatt Davis, and her beloved husband, Jamezell Marion Ottinger.

Survivors include Jaye’s baby brother, David Wyatt Davis (Sheila); her nephew, Lee Joseph Davis; her children, Kellie Jo Ogden, Heather Lee Olivet (David), Jamezell Sylvain Ottinger (James), Linda McFarland Betschart (Bruce), and Keith Allen Ottinger (Karina); grandchildren, Jackson Wyatt Ogden, Jay Dylan Olivet (Meagan), Piper Delaney Olivet, Kai Beckett Xiangyang Olivet, Asher Hudson Hejun Olivet, Molly Kate Yunning Olivet, Maxie Lawrence McFarland (Laura), Jeffrey Ryan McFarland (Keryn), Justin David Ottinger (Christi), Alexandra Maria Ottinger, Keith Jordan Ottinger, Amanda Elizabeth Warner, Tamara Mary Williams (Jon), and Christopher Albert Warner; and her great-grandchildren, Camden Lawrence McFarland, Sawyer Lee McFarland, Emersen Ann McFarland, Adlee Mae McFarland, Jayce Maxwell McFarland, Kaylee Ottinger, and Madison Ottinger.

The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. A Service of Remembrance for Jaye will begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Pastor Carter McInnis will officiate.

Jennifer Kay Butts age 50 of Murfreesboro passed away Friday night October 1, 2021 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. She was born June 9, 1971 to her parents, Bruce Alan Bromley and Carol Ann O’Clare. She was an interior upholstery worker. The family has honored her request to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Survivors include: 2 children: Rachel Butts (Garrett Jarvis) of Indiana, David Butts of Murfreesboro; Mother: Carol Ann O’Clare of Smithville. The family has asked that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

William Michaels age 81, of Smithville, passed away Monday September 27, 2021 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was born February 24, 1940 to his parents, the late Albert and Betty Mack. Mr. Michaels attended the Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church and worked in construction. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Caroline Michaels of Smithville; children, Robert Matulewich of New York, Kirk Michaels of Alabama, Gwenevere Michaels of Smithville, and Brad Michaels of Virginia; grandchildren, Emerison Michaels and Landon Michaels. The family has honored Mr. Michaels request to be cremated and no services are planned. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Atnip Roller, age 58 passed away at her residence on Friday, October 1, 2021.

Mary was born on September 19, 1963 in Smithville, TN to her parents, the late Roscoe and Reba Atnip. Also preceding her in death was her husband, George Roller; 2 brothers, Randy Atnip and Eddie Atnip. She was a member of Peoples Missionary Baptist Church.

The funeral will be on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 2pm at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home chapel and burial will follow in Taylor Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday from 1-8pm and on Monday from 10am until the time of service at 2.

Survivors include 1 son, George Roller, Jr. and his fiance, Abbey Caldwell of Smithville 2 grandchildren, Ava and Kase Roller of Smithville; 3 sisters, Lou Dean Murphy and Rose Atnip both of Smithville, and Rachel (Aaron) Ponder of Dowelltown; 6 brothers, R.J. (Suzi) Atnip of Murfreesboro, Jerry (Betty) Atnip, Ricky (Ally) Atnip, Teddy (Lori) Atnip, Freddy (Vickey) Atnip, and Michael (Amy) Atnip all of Smithville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of services.
