Larry Allon Wright

July 21, 2022

77-year-old Larry Allon Wright of Smithville, TN passed away Wednesday July 20, 2022 at his residence. He was the former meat market manager of Foodland and a longtime business owner of Wright Brothers Super Market. He was a member and Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Wright also served as a Smithville city alderman for 14 years. The funeral service will be held on Friday July 22, 2022 at 12 Noon in the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home with internment to follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from Noon until 8pm and on Friday from 10am until the time of services at Noon.

Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel Lee and Pearl Blankenship Wright; 2 nephews, Anthony Wright and Kenny Robinson; and a brother-in-law, Kent Robinson. Survivors include his wife of 56 years Donna G. Wright; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Nicole Wright, one daughter, Kimberly Griffin all of Smithville. 5 Grandchildren, Stephanee Wright of Smithville, Ashleigh Snow of Smithville, Glenna Grote of KY, Jenna Wright of Smithville, and Lydia Wright of Smithville; 8 Great Grandchildren; 1 Brother, Eugene (Darlene) Wright of Hendersonville; 3 Sisters, Elsie (Mitch) Jacobs of Murfreesboro, Ann (Thurman) Mullins of Lebanon, and Cathy (Jim) Welsh of Mt. Juliet; 3 Sisters-in-law, Joyce Robinson of Smithville, Dora Ann Arnold of Lebanon, and Nancy (Steve) Jones of Lebanon; Several Nieces, Nephews, and Friends also survive.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations please be made to Love-Cantrell Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.




Jeremy Maxwell

July 18, 2022

Funeral services for Jeremy Michael Maxwell, 39 of Baxter, will be Friday, July 22 at 1 PM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment with military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard will be in Maxwell South Cemetery. Bro. Frank Bratcher will officiate.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 8 PM and Friday from 10 AM until service time at the funeral home.

Jeremy died Friday, July 15, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 10, 1983 in Cookeville, TN.

He attended DeKalb County High School and graduated from Upperman High School in Baxter in 2001. He retired in 2022 with 20+ years of service with the US Navy on board the USS New Hampshire Submarine as a Sonar Technician.

Jeremy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Erma Herren Maxwell, James and Bonnie Randolph Kincaid, uncle Harold Maxwell and Father-in-law Gary Crook.

Jeremy loved to BBQ, was a great cook and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include wife of 19 years (Married October 5, 2002) Dana Crook Maxwell of Baxter, daughter Caitlyn Maxwell, son Cody Maxwell both of Baxter, mother and step-father Brenda Kincaid Herrin and Terry Herrin of Baxter, father Michael Dwight Maxwell of Baxter, brother Chris Maxwell of Baxter, sister Hayley Herrin of Baxter, mother-in-law Janice Crook of Baxter, a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family and Navy friends will serve as pallbearers.

Jerry Mason Page

Jerry Mason Page age 69 of Morrison, passed away Friday afternoon July 15, 2022, at his residence.  He was born July 3, 1953 to his parents, the late Charlie Buck and Mina Bell Hale Page.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Danile Page; 2 brothers, Robert Page and Charles Donald Page; 4 sisters, Martha Sue Page, Lois Kennedy, Nina Faye Hicks and Judy Bullard.  He worked 26 years with the Warren County Highway Department.  Funeral services will be 1PM Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale, Levie Glenn and Josh Roberts officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery.  He is survived by a son, Jimmy Page of Smithville; grandchildren, Samantha and Zack Kendall, Braxton Page, Eijah, Abaigail and Noah Page; great-grandchildren, Alaina and Amelia; mother of his children, Debra Page; sisters, Kathy Page of Smithville and Carolyn Miller of Sparta; several nieces and nephews; very special friend, Josh Roberts and his special work family, the Warren County Highway Department.  Visitation will be Monday 4PM until 8PM and Tuesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1PM.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Gloria Dee (Jennings) Putty

July 14, 2022

Gloria Dee Putty age 69 of Smithville, passed away Thursday morning, July 14, 2022, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.  She was born February 15, 1953, to her parents, the late, Fred P. and Maude Emma Harvey Jennings.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Mitch Redmon; daughter, Nikki Redmon; 2 brothers, Burt and Bill Jennings and a sister, Pat Verble.  Gloria worked for 23 years with Terrell’s Pharmacy and was a member of Outreach Baptist Church.  She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Jimmy Putty of Smithville; 2 sons, Lynus (Jessica) Martin of Cookeville and Caisson (Misty) Martin of Smithville; 7 grandchildren, Keegan, Kale, Krew, Kash and Kooper Martin, Alex (Kelsey) Hayes and Noah Martin; 3 sisters, Mai Brewer of Waynesboro, Faye Henson of Murfreesboro and Brenda Hanley of McMinnville; 1 brother, Bobby Jennings of Cookeville.  Funeral services will be 2:PM Sunday, July 17, 2022, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Nathan Thomason and B.J. Mary Anita Houk

Mary Anita Houk age 68 of Smithville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday July 5, 2022, at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. Anita was born July 16, 1953, to her parents, the late LeRoy and Mary Ethel Taylor Curtis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Curtis. She was a member of the Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church and a retired secretary with the Soil Conservation having worked 17 years. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Bernard Houk of Smithville; 2 daughters, Mary (Tommy) Melton and Jennifer (Jason) Winchester both of Smithville; 4 grandchildren, Justin (Chloe) Winchester, Keri Winchester, Taylor Patterson and Lucas Winchester; 1 sister, Delilah (Lillard) Barrett of Lebanon; 1 brother, Danny (Peggy) Curtis of Smithville. Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday, July 7, 2022, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Frank Bratcher officiating and burial will follow in Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 12 Noon until 8 PM and Thursday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Sherry Gayle Chumbley Bush

Sherry Gayle Chumbley Bush passed away on July 4, 2022 at age 85. She is preceeded in death by her parents Lucile Nixon Chumbley and John Herman Chumbley. Surviving family members include three sons: William Earl Bush, III, John Chumbley Bush, and Thomas Nixon Bush, seven grandchildren: William Earl Bush, IV, Eric Tye Bush, Evan Kyle Bush, Haley Brooke Bush, Allison Breanna Bush, Whiley Ray Bush, Elija Nixon Bush and one great granddaughter: Raleigh Bryne Bush.

Ms. Bush was born in Springfield, Tennessee on July 12, 1936. Her parents were highly respected and prominent educators in the DeKalb County school system, and she followed in their footsteps. Following high school graduation in 1954, Ms. Bush attended Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville for a year. She then transferred to Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro and earned a bachelor’s degree in education. After college, Ms. Bush married and became a a military spouse. During the 1960’s and early 1970’s, she lived and worked in several different areas of the United States and also in Germany. In 1974, she returned to middle Tennessee and worked for over thirty years in the DeKalb County School system, retiring in May of 2008 after a long tenure with DeKalb County Middle School. From 1998-2006, Ms. Bush also served as the Music Director at the First United Methodist Church in Smithville where she was a life long member. One of her favorite quotes came from John Wesley: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you, in all the ways you can, in all places you can, at all times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” Known for her exceptional warmth and kindness, Ms. Bush was loved and well respected in the community, and she will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home on Thursday July 7th from 2 p.m.-7p.m.A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Smithville on Friday July 8th at 11:00 a.m., with music beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The family has requested that donations please be made to Lighthouse Christian Camp in memory of Mrs. Bush.
