Saturday, August 20th - Join us at the DeKalb Farmers Market for our 1st Healthier TN Community (HTC) event:

•7:00 am – Off the Beaten Path art sale to benefit our local Food for Kids backpack program

•7:30 am – Healthier TN Community info-sharing with DeKalb Prevention Coalition members

• 8:00 am - Helen Sefsik of Foxglove Farm invites the community to come play with watercolors

• 8:30 am – Veggie, Egg & Herbs Cooking Demo by Connie Tjarks of Knot Enough Thyme

• 9:00 am – Join the HTC discussion with Justin Potter Library, DeKalb Health Department, School staff, local artists and Farmers Market vendors

Wednesday, August 31st at 11:00 am – Healthier TN Community Council Meeting in the UT Extension Room in the DeKalb County Complex

DeKalb County Youth Dove Hunt

The DeKalb County Youth Dove Hunt will be September 3rd at Gene Young’s farm in the Blue Springs Community.

Registration: 1:00-1:30pm
Hunt: 2:00-5:00 pm

Open to youth ages 9 years to 17 years old who have completed Hunter Education

Bring ammo, plugged shotgun, glasses, ear protection, stool/bucket,

Must be hunter education certified and properly licensed

There will be 40 staked hunting positions in the field. A supervising adult must be at each stake. Two youths may share a stake, but only one gun per stake.

6:00 PM Sunset Cruise: Meet at Edgar Evins Marina for a relaxing tour of Center Hill Lake at sunset by pontoon boat. Limit 12 people, $5 per person. 6:00 PM Fire Starting: Meet at the Fire Circle to learn how to start a fire safely and learn what small everyday substance you can always keep in your pack to help start a fire (no it’s not just a lighter or match).

Thursday, August 11th
5:00 PM Slithering Snakes: Meet the Ranger at the Interpretive Center for a fun and informative presentation about our local snake species. Afterwards you will get the chance to touch a live snake!

Friday, August 12th
8:00 PM S’moreing Around: Come on down to the Fire Circle and make your own s’mores with Ranger Brad! S’more supplies will be supplied by the park. We will talk about fire safety and even get you thinking about a few riddles.

Saturday, August 13th
2:00 PM Cookie Baking: Meet at the Camp Store to make some good ole fashion cookies with our wonderful Camp Hosts! Free cookies to everyone who attends!

6:30 PM Forked Tonged Friends: Meet Ranger Halfacre at the Interpretive Center for a fun and informative presentation about our local snake species. Afterwards you will get the chance to touch a live snake!

6:00 PM Natures Carpenters: Meet at the Park Entrance to learn about beavers and their effect on the natural ecosystem. We will take a relaxed, short hike down to see some beaver dams as well. Wear bug spray!

6:00 PM Blacksmithing Damascus: Come down to the Camp Store to create your own Damascus “steel” to take home just like the old Master Blacksmiths did with swords and knives. Learn about the importance of this beautiful steel.

10:00 AM Mammals: Meet at the Interpretive Center to learn about the common mammals in the park and even get to touch a few pelts!

4:00 PM Corn Husk Dolls: Meet the ranger at the Camp Store to go back in time and create dolls out of corn husks like our ancestors did! Also, you’ll have a keepsake to take home with you.

5:00 PM Rock Painting: Come down to the Camp Store to paint rocks and take home a souvienr from our wonderful park! We will also discuss the different types of rocks we have here on our park.

8:00 PM Scorpion Hunt: Did you know that we have scorpions in Tennessee? Join the Park Ranger for a nighttime expedition to find scorpions by black light. Meet at the first Picnic Area at the boat ramp entrance (look for State Parks vehicle).

5K & 1 Mile Fun Run for Down Syndrome Awareness

A 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run for Down Syndrome Awareness will be October 1 at 8:00 a.m. at 101 Bulldog Lane, Liberty. The event "3.21RUN4DS" is formerly known as RunDown 5K. Early Bird Registration by August 19 is $20 or $25 for Pre-registration received by September 28. The cost is $30 on the day of the race. The Fun Run fee is $15 to enter. Registration by September 15 guarantees a t-shirt. Race Day Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Early Packet Pickup is September 29 from 6-7 p.m. at DeKalb West School. Free High School Equivalency Classes

If you never completed high school and would like to obtain an equivalency diploma you have that opportunity.

Free High School Equivalency Classes are available days and evenings at the County Complex at 722 South Congress Boulevard. Enter through the UT Extension/Motlow College Doors.

Ongoing registration is Mondays from 3:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

If you like to play Rook and are age 60 or over and enjoy spending time with great people, grab a partner and join them at the DeKalb/Smithville Senior Center located at 718 South Congress Boulevard, Smithville between the County Complex and the UT Extension Agency. They play on Wednesday afternoons from 1-4 p.m.

Liberty Senior Center Invites Seniors to Play Bridge
